APC Wants To Use, Dump Jonathan – Deji Adeyanju

Deji Adeyanju, activist and convener of Concerned Nigerians has stated that the All Progressives Congress is planning to use and dump former President Goodluck Jonathan.

This was stated by the activist following the recent visit of the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu to Jonathan in Abuja on Tuesday night.

Adeyanju reminded the former President of the role the APC cabals played during its presidential primary, saying he earlier warned him of ‘use and dump.’

Recall that Tinubu, who was accompanied by his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, led a delegation of five APC governors. They included the Governor of Plateau State and Director-General of his Presidential Campaign Council, Simon Lalong; his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun; Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle; Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq.

While the details of the meeting were not made public, a source in Tinubu’s camp told our correspondent that the visit was an extension of the APC national leader’s consultation with major stakeholders in the polity ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

“His visit to Jonathan shouldn’t come to anyone as a surprise. Tinubu holds no grudges with any political leader whether within the party or in the opposition,” the source had said.

Reacting via a Facebook post, Adeyanju said, “Dear Goodluck Jonathan, you won’t die if you don’t support anyone in this election. During the APC primaries when the cabal was deceiving you, hope you remember all my warnings to you that they just wanted to use and dump you. A word is enough for the wise.”

Abia APP's Guber Candidate, Mascot Kick-Starts LG Verification Tour

The governorship hopeful of Abia state and candidate of the Action Peoples Party, APP, for the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, has kick-started what he calls a verification tour across the 17 L.G.As of the state to ascertain the voting strength of his party for the upcoming election.

Today, Chief Mascot, in conjunction with his running mate, Prof. Osondu Akoma, and his entourage, stormed the Umurakpa Community of Osisioma Ngwa LGA to kick-start the tour.

Hon. Prince Charles Nwogu, the LG Chairman of APP in Osisioma Ngwa, on behalf of the party’s faithful, members of the Reality Organization, and indigenes of the LGA heartily welcomed Chief Mascot, whom he described as a young man with tenacity and technical know how to solve the enormous challenges confronting Abia state.  He, therefore, assured him of the readiness of the people of Osisioma Ngwa to support his political ambition.

Speaking at the event, Chief Mascot Kalu said his tour is not to campaign but to ascertain if truly APP is on the ground in Osisioma Ngwa as he has been told and to take cognizance of the needs of the people of the LGA.

One thing that he obviously noticed that Osisioma Ngwa lacks is good access roads, which he promised to reconstruct their roads if elected into office.

He further gave an insight into his manifesto which includes but is not limited to the construction of at least 10 to 15KM of new roads in each local government, restoration of free Primary and Secondary education, revitalization of moribund industries for job creation, regular payment of workers’ salaries on the 26th of every month, and many more.

Over 25,000 Persons Missing In Nigeria, 14,000 Children Inclusive — Report

Over 25,000 Persons Missing In Nigeria, 14,000 Children Inclusive — Report

As the world marks the international day of disappeared persons, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in a recent report has said that 64,000 cases of disappeared persons have been reported across Africa.

According to the committee, Nigeria alone accounts for 25,000 missing persons, out of which 14,000 or more than half of the missing are children.

ICRC also said thousands of people, including children make attempts to cross borders, through the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea in search of safety and a better life in Europe each year.

Such movements it says often entail great risk, including the risk of disappearance.

Documented cases of missing persons are on the rise; however, the ICRC warns that the actual figures are much higher.

“Sadly, the almost 14,000 children registered does not capture the full scope of this often-neglected and tragic humanitarian issue. There is no doubt that there are more children whose fate remains unknown,” said Yann Bonzon, head of the delegation for the ICRC in Nigeria.

The committee says, “During displacement, children face risks such as exploitation, violence, mental distress, and disappearance. Many also end up alone, with no news of their families’ whereabouts. The ICRC has more than 5,200 documented cases of unaccompanied children in Africa.”

It added, “Having the right policies in place can save lives. It is an essential step to protect migrants and families of missing persons. This is a question of humanity and human dignity,” said Patrick Youssef, the regional director for ICRC in Africa. Families of the disappeared face immense pain and obstacles that often transcend generations. They are stuck in limbo, unable to move forward or grieve. The search for their loved ones never ends.”

In 2022 from January to June, the ICRC together with the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), assisted in the exchange of 1,250 Red Cross Messages containing family news and reunited 31 separated children/unaccompanied minors with their families while 440 phone calls were provided to families to maintain family contact. In addition, families of 377 persons received information about the whereabouts or fate of their loved ones and 146 families of missing persons received psychosocial, economic, legal, and administrative support through the Accompaniment Program for Families of the Missing.

Rev Ehiemere Fighting Tooth And Nail To Protect His Financial Misappropriations – APGA Chair, Prince Ukaegbu Alleges

Rev Ehiemere Fighting Tooth And Nail To Protect His Financial Misappropriations - APGA Chair, Prince Ukaegbu Alleges

The leadership tussle currently facing the Abia State chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA is far from over as Onapuruagu Prince Nnanna Ukaegbu insists he is the duly elected chairman of the party.

This comes as Rev. Augustine Ehiemere says he remains the authentic chairman of the party in the state.

Speaking with ABN TV on Wednesday in Umuahia, Prince Ukaegbu said a court of competent jurisdiction sitting Umuahia has pronounced him the duly elected chairman of Abia chapter of APGA.

Dissatisfied with the court decision, the Rev. Ehiemere faction approached the Owerri division of the appeal court which later dismissed their appeal in February and upheld the decision of the High Court in Umuahia to the effect that Prince Ukaegbu is the state chairman of APGA.

According to Prince Ukaegbu, instead of Rev. Ehiemere and his faction to abide by the decision of the appeal court, they again approached the same court, urging it to reverse itself, an application that was thrown out and a cost of two million Naira awarded in his favour.

One would have thought that that will be the end of the tussle but Ehiemere and co clung on to power solely for the simple reason that its own executive led by his own deputy and 22 all-state exco accused him, wrote a petition, and forwarded to me that he stole the sum of N56,470,000.

“Ehiemere is fighting tooth and nail to protect himself and his criminal activity within the party. That’s not all, with we being law-abiding citizens, we didn’t want to take the laws into our hands, we made applications to all the relevant authorities and the Inspector General of Police approved that the state secretariat of APGA at Aguiyi Ironsi should be made available for we and the party to conduct our normal and legitimate duties,” he said.

According to him, the premises was made available to the exco under his leadership where they addressed the press, and took vital decisions, among which are that Ehiemere and co will not remain in the party while the investigation is ongoing.

To this end, the party suspended him along with Sunday Onukwubiri, Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, and Lucky Erondu for financial misappropriation in Abia APGA to the tune of N56,470,000.

According to Prince Ukaegbu, the party has since set up an investigative panel to look into the allegations of theft of party funds against the suspended officials, an investigation expected to be concluded within two weeks.

Prince Ukaegbu alleged that upon the conclusion of the business of the day, Rev. Ehiemere stormed to party’s office, accusing him (Ukaegbu) of stealing the sum of N50m kept in the party’s secretariat, an allegation Ukaegbu said is unfounded.

He insists that the party is focused on 2023 and will not be distracted by anyone, telling Rev. Ehiemere to be ready to provide answers on the alleged missing funds.

The said funds in a petition sighted by our correspondent and addressed to the national chairman of APGA, Victor Ike Oye includes donations from Barr. Etigwe Uwa, Prof. Gregory Ibe, Chief Nnamdi Iroji, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, Alex Ikwechegh, and others amounted to the said alleged to have been stolen.

All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has hailed the elevation of Bishop Peter Ebere Okpaleke to Cardinal by Pope Francis as a deserving honour to the Bishop and Nigeria as a country.

Tinubu thanked the Pope and the Catholic Church for finding Bishop of Ekwulobia in Anambra State worthy of the elevation, describing it as further confirmation of the progress of Christianity and depth of catholicism in Nigeria.

Okpaleke has joined the rank of impeccable Catholic clergymen from Nigeria such as Cardinal Francis Arinse, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie and Cardinal John Onaiyekan who are members of the Conclave.

“I most heartily congratulate Bishop Peter Ebere Okpaleke on his ordainment as a Cardinal. This deserving elevation is not one just for the Bishop, but a honour done to Nigeria by Pope Francis.

“It is a thing of great joy that the Pope has found another Nigerian worthy of this elevation. We are happy for this great honour which is also a call for higher service in the vineyard.

“I pray to God that the Catholic Church will continue its many good works in Nigeria and, that with this elevation, Cardinal Okpaleke, shall, through his ministry, further glorify the name of God for the benefit of the Catholic Church, for all the people of Nigeria and for the advancement of humanity.”

Increasing Debts Not Solution To Nigeria’s Indebtedness – Atiku Tells FG
Atiku Abubakar

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has cautioned the Federal Government that increasing debts will never be a solution to the country’s indebtedness.

Atiku, a former vice president, in a statement, Tuesday, recalled that last week the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released the GDP figures for Q2 2022, saying the government has been unreasonably upbeat about the reported growth rate of 3.4%.

Waziri Adamawa claimed that the economy is in deeper trouble than the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government is willing to admit.

The former president lamented that citizens’ level of misery hasn’t changed under President Muhammadu Buhari’s led APC.

Atiku attributed the misery to the slow pace of growth and decline of the agriculture, oil and gas, and manufacturing sectors.

“Second, unabated are rising commodity prices occasioned by high energy and transportation costs (and aggravated by the disorderliness in the forex market), ” he added.

The statement partly read, “Also, debt levels continue to rise while the fiscal capacity to service its debts is declining. All these are enough to erase the perceived gains from output growth.

“Having run out of ideas, it appears that our unprecedented level of indebtedness is whetting the government’s appetite for more debt. This is a recipe for macroeconomic instability.

“We challenge the National Bureau of Statistics to share with the public their recent statistics on poverty, unemployment, and commodity prices — the reality of which will leave no hope for the common man.

“As I have said before, increasing debts will never be a solution to our indebtedness. My government, if elected, will halt the rate of debt accumulation and instead focus on private-public partnerships in financing development.”

He noted that the consideration of a government of national unity will douse the temperature, unite Nigerians and pave the way for improved security.

According to him, improved security allows for investments and, therefore, an improved economy.

2023: Tinubu Will Be Voted Massively By The Igbo To Continue Buhari’s Good Works – Dr. Nwoye

The immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State, Dr Ben Nwoye has boasted that the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will garner enough votes from the South-East.

He spoke during the unveiling of a campaign building for the Tinubu-Shettima Independent Campaign Group in Enugu.

Nwoye insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had achieved a lot in spite of the challenges of insecurity bedevilling the country.

He said Tinubu should be allowed to sustain the good works Buhari would leave behind.

He recounted the many landmark achievements the Buhari administration had recorded including the paying of minimum wage of N30,000, as well as increasing the allowances of the members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Nwoye further noted that the presidency, under the APC, embarked on tremendous infrastructural development in the country, especially in the South-East.

“There is a need for continuity and even though there is a problem of security, it should not undermine the achievement of the APC-led government.

“It was the APC under Buhari that introduced the primary school feeding project,” he stated.

He disclosed that all stakeholders in the State had agreed to work for Tinubu come 2023, adding that nobody will stop the presidential moving train of APC.

“We want to ensure that Tinubu/Shettima will get enough votes in the South-East.

“I advise supporters of other parties that are saying that APC will not campaign in the South-East to bury the idea. We have thousands of supporters that will work for the APC,” he stated.
