In a bid to bolster his chances in the 2023 presidential election, which holds 178 days from now, Nigerians in the Diaspora have formed groups of committees to launch crowdfunding initiatives for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi.

They plan to unveil in the coming days a crowdfunding portal with a target to raise $150 million from Obi’s supporters in the diaspora and N100 billion from those in Nigeria, THISDAY has reliably gathered.

A dependable source close to one of Obi’s supporters leading the process, said yesterday they are targeting small amount in contributions to be gathered from supporters largely from the grassroots to help the LP set up more structures across the country and make the former Anambra State governor a formidable contender in the presidential race.

The initiative is being driven by young enthusiastic Nigerians in the tech sector who are making waves and yearning for new leadership at the helm of affairs in the country. Some of whom have only recently come of voting age.

The campaigns for the presidential election, which holds February 25, 2023, will officially commence on September 28, 2022.

Unlike 2019, when the race was essentially between All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), LP has become a major factor in the coming presidential poll.

“These children you said we are, that brought you from nothing.

“Ayu, you said you founded this party, but you left the party in 2007. You founded a company, you left the company, people stood and brought out the company to what it is today, you have no moral right to still come and claim that you founded that company, you left with your shares.

“Nigerians have seen how ungrateful some of you can be, and that’s why Nigerians also want to be careful, if we give these people power, are you sure they will also be grateful to Nigerians”.

Speaking with ABN TV on Thursday, Sir Chukwuemeka a retired assistant general manager in Union Homes Saving and Loans PLC said his desire to contribute to the development of his community led him to join in the race for the kingship of Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku.

According to him, he has participated in the screening exercise which was announced by the traditional prime minister of the community, Chief Chimechefulam Odoemela. and also took part in an electoral process that took place in February this year.

He said he was elected at Union primary school which was witnessed by the traditional prime minister, Eze in Council, and other members of the community.

Sir Chukwuemeka Nwaobiala further alleged that some other persons later started laying claims that it is their turn to produce the next Eze, a claim he faulted.

He said the constitution excludes only the kindred were the last Eze came from producing his Successor, in this case, Etiti Nabu. Other kindreds in the community are entitled to participate in are Ndagbo, Mgboko, and, Umuobasi.

He accused Chief Amaechi Ugweje and Anthony Chikwadoro Ndulaka of not passing through the electoral process, wondering why they are parading themselves as Ezes-elect.

In the case of Chief Amaechi Ugweje, Sir Nwaobiala said the Isiama Afaraukwu constitution does not permit an indigene based overseas to be installed as the Egwu Ukwu (Eze) of the community.

He insists that he enjoys the support of the cabinet members of the former Eze, saying Chief Ugweje is not qualified to lead as the traditional ruler of the community.

He urged the state government to support the effort of the community to entrench peace by ensuring transparency in the process of selecting a new Eze, looking for someone that has the decorum and honour as the next egwu ukwu.
