2023: Churches Must Be Non-Partisan, Says Rev Dr. Daniel Okoh

The Christian Association of Nigeria President, Dr. Daniel Okoh, has implored Christian leaders and churches across the country to be non-partisan in election matters.

He also Nigerians to be properly guided in making the right decisions in the next presidential election.

The call was made on Sunday by Okoh in Onitsha

during the 75th-anniversary celebration of the founder of the Grace of God Mission International, Bishop Paul Nwachukwu.

Okoh stated that the 2023 election offers the electorates the best opportunity to install the president of their choice through the ballot box.

He expressed the belief that the Church has a great role to play in the emergence of the next President.

“The church should be non-partisan in election matters, it has a duty to ensure the people are properly guided in the choice of leaders they choose. If Nigerians can unite and forge a common front, the choice to turn around this country is in their hands,” he added.

While speaking, the Senior Pastor of Destiny Revival Ministry International, Godwin Okeke, berated other pastors who promote politicians in the church, saying that such action only heats up the polity unnecessarily.

Okeke said the church was supposed to be non-partisan while informing, educating, and sensitizing its people on election matters.

The cleric, who is based in the United States of America, pointed out that in advanced countries, churches only educate their people on the issues and allow them to make the decisions of who to vote for during elections.

He, therefore, advised churches promoting candidates on the alter to desist from doing so, as such is not the role of the churches.

He said, “The church should play the role of informing, educating, and sensitizing, not supporting a particular candidate. They have the duty of exposing what each candidate stands for so that the people will be well informed.

“The church should be the place of education. It is not just a place of preaching and healing. It is also a place for educating people on what to do.

“All over the world, that is what the church does. That is what we do at our branch in the United States. We educate our members on the issues and they will be properly guided to vote.

“The church should be non-partisan because Jesus Christ died for all. A church should bring out the contest and put it on the ground for everybody to see and make informed decisions. That is the role of the church.

“The man we are celebrating today is a great man, he has produced many wonderful people. God has used him to mold many lives. I am not only a pastor, but I am also an engineer and I specialize in telecoms. Whatever I am today, I learned from him. He pushes people to the limit to get their best.”

Worshippers Abducted From Zamfara Mosque Resume Work At Bandits’ Farmlands

The 44 worshippers abducted from a mosque in Zamfara community last Friday have been subjected to physical labour on armed men’s farmlands.

Residents said the bandits had called to tell relatives that the captives were with them and working on their millet and sorghum plantations but had yet to demand ransom, Daily Trust reports.

“Our millet plantations are due for harvest and the captives must do the work for us,” one of the bandits was quoted as saying by a resident, Abubakar Bukkuyum.

Last Friday, bandits abducted dozens of worshippers from a central Juma’at Mosque in Zugu community of Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Residents said the armed men hid their guns inside their clothes and stormed the mosque when the Imam was about to start delivering sermons and they asked those on the premises of the mosque to get inside.

“No one saw them with guns and many people mistook them as worshippers. Nobody paid attention to them because they hid their guns.

“However, shortly after they moved inside the mosque they brought out the rifles and fired some shots as a warning.

“They herded the congregants into the bush but some of the worshippers managed to scramble out of the mosque to safety. The muezzin was among those kidnapped but the Imam was able to escape the assault.

“Some those who were outside the mosque were also abducted.

When contacted for an update, the spokesman of the police in the state, SP Muhammad Shehu, said search and rescue operation had already commenced.

French Diplomat Highlights Need To Maintain Dialogue With Russia
French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna on Monday said not all Western countries support the anti-Russia sanctions.

“We must resist the circumvention of sanctions. Europe, the US, and some other partners have imposed sanctions, but there are allies that haven’t adopted a policy of sanctions,” she said on RTL radio. “That’s for example, Turkey, where I’m heading today.”

The top diplomat said “it’s important that those countries that haven’t adopted sanctions don’t serve as a platform for their circumvention.”

Colonna said the restrictions seek to “make it harder to finance the hostilities and put an end to them.”

“Europe has already adopted six Russia-targeted sanctions packages and now the seventh one is being implemented, although it’s not officially called that. There are other possibilities of sanctions, such as targeting individuals”.

Tinubu Confused By Atiku’s Achievements ― PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, is nervy, intimidated, and confused by the achievements of his counterpart in the main opposition party, Atiku Abubakar, and afraid of failure in the 2023 election.

The PDP’s position came against the claim by the former Lagos State governor that the APC will bury the former ruling party in the exercise, causing the former ruling party to describe Tinubu as a paper candidate.

In a statement issued by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, it’s National Publicity Secretary Sunday, the main opposition party maintained that Nigerians are appalled by yet another attempt by the presidential candidate to divert attention from the main issues of the failures of the APC government by making derogatory remarks on the PDP.
The PDP said: “Such fixation on the PDP only exposes Asiwaju Tinubu as a paper candidate who is confused, nervy, and intimidated by the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the achievements of the PDP, which stared him in the face in mortal fear of failure ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“Unlike the APC that is dead, the PDP is not only alive and existing as acknowledged by Asiwaju Tinubu in his statement, but also strong, united, and focused on its mission to Rescue, Rebuild and Redirect our nation from the misrule of the APC. البلاك جاك

“It is distressing that Asiwaju Tinubu speaks like someone under the influence with incoherent discourse and absence of mind that further expose a lack of capacity for leadership, especially at the Presidential level.

“It is rather shameful that the APC presidential candidate alluded to the nation’s railway system which was revitalized by the PDP administration but painfully surrendered to terrorists and bandits by the APC government.

“From his incoherent discourse, the APC presidential candidate appears to be battling with issues of ethical challenges and ineligibility to contest election on account of inconsistencies in his educational qualifications, name, ancestry, age, and corruption allegations among myriads of issues. استراتيجية بينجو

“Moreover, Nigerians have realized the futility of Asiwaju’s non-existent and heavily concocted achievements, influence, leadership prowess, and skills.”

According to the PDP, despite the fact that Nigerians gave the APC flagbearer the benefit of the doubt, he engineered a government, that it said brought untold hardship to the people.

The PDP added: “Nigerians gave Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu the benefit of the doubt but he failed them by engineering a deceitful government leading to the ugly indices of insecurity and bloodletting, economic hardship, unemployment, disunity, and low life expectancy imposed on our nation in the last seven years.

“He should know that Nigerians are aware that he is in the presidential race not to serve but to gain control of the nation’s treasury so as to expand his exploitative enterprise and economic empire beyond Lagos State.

“The APC presidential candidate has not responded to allegations that he is the promoter of the increase in VAT, electricity tariff, import duties, Stamp Duty, fuel price hike as well as other exploitative tolls by the APC Federal Government, from which he allegedly benefits through many stooges in the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and other revenue generating agencies of government.

“Asiwaju is huge baggage to the APC. He should know that because of him there is a daily exodus of millions of APC members across the country into the PDP. In the last month, over 5 million APC members have defected to the PDP. In the Lagos State axis, his supposed stronghold, close to one million APC members has decamped to the PDP since his emergence as APC Presidential Candidate. العاب المال
“This is because Nigerians have recognized the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar as the solution our nation needs at this moment while Asiwaju has been identified as ‘Another Problem Coming (APC).’”

Nigeria Will Experience Change With Peter Obi Movement — Pat Utomi

0

Professor of political economy, Pat Utomi expressed optimism in the 2023 general elections, saying the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s movement will change Nigeria.

Utomi made this assertion while speaking on Sunday Politics, a Channels TV political show monitored by our correspondent stated that Nigerian politicians are only connected to the deal they can make without any commitment to the people.

He said Nigerian politicians are scared of the scream of the young people for a new Nigeria that will work for all Nigerians.

The professor noted that the goal of the Labour Party’s sensitization tour is to address what makes democracy work.

“Right now, Nigeria’s democracy is not working because of the transaction costs that are involved, the trade offs that have to be made such that eventually when people get to power they find that what is wrong with power is not the purpose.

“They forget the purpose because there are so many deals, IOU to win the election and in the end we get the politics of politicians for politicians by politicians and not a democracy that is for the people and by the people,” he added.

According to Utomi, this is the reason Nigeria is where it is today, crippled, lying prostrate before the wall, in spite of enormous potential.

“Nigerian politicians are so connected to the deals they can make rather than the service of the people,” he said.

How Ogun Pastor Raped 14-Year-Old Girl In Church, Says He’s Unaware Of What Came Over Him

A 38-year-old Pastor in Ogun State, Israel Adebayo, has been arrested by the Police for allegedly raping a 14 year-old member of the choir in the church.

The police command had on Friday arrested a 48-year-old pastor, Michael Abiodun, who allegedly defiled and impregnated a 12-year-old member of his church at Owode Egba in Obafemi-Owode LGA.

The Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday, said another pastor had been caught in the act of alleged rape.

Oyeyemi said Pastor who is the General Overseer of “The Beloved Chapel ” situated at No 9, Iyaniwura street, off Owonikoko street Agbado area of Ogun state was arrested following a complaint lodged at Agbado divisional headquarters.

He said the mother of the victim told the police that while she was away from home for treatment of an ailment, her daughter went to the Church, but ‘fell’ into the hands of the Pastor who “lured her into his room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.”

The Police Spokesman said operatives from Agbado division, immediately stormed the scene and arrested the Pastor.

He said the cleric when interrogated admitted and pleaded for forgiveness.

“On interrogation, the Pastor who admitted defiling the victim pleaded for forgiveness. According to him, his family and that of the victim are so close, but he didn’t know how and why such thing happened to him.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect would have been arrested long ago, but the mother of the victim frustrated the move because she doesn’t want to offend her Pastor. But when the victim continued bleeding from her private part since the incident which happened October 2021, she was left with no other option than to allow Police come into the matter,” he said.

Oyeyemi explained that victim who claimed that the Pastor was the first person to have sex with her “is currently recuperating in a hospital.”

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole to have ordered the transfer of the case to state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible prosecution.

He added that the CP also warned parents to stop the habit of covering up suspects “who indecently assaulted their daughters no matter how close they are to such person, as they too may be liable for prosecution for compounding felony.”

Dino Carpets Fani-Kayode Calls Him Political Scavenger

2023: Peter Obi, Other LP Aspirants Won’t Win – Fani-Kayode Tells Peter Obi Supporters
Femi Fani-Kayode

A spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign in 2023, Senator Dino Melaye, has noted the PDP has no position to offer former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, in the party’s campaign team.

Melaye made this known in a statement on his verified Facebook page Sunday night, describing the former minister as a “political scavenger”.

He said, “My attention has just been drawn to a statement issued by Femi Fani-Kayode, which as usual, was an incoherent gibberish produced from his temporary relief from insanity. How can one explain his momentary consciousness to react to an interview long granted, if not that his world of reality is not in sync with the world of sound minds? His comment was at best a mixture of prevarication, lack of comprehension and a voyage in meddlesomeness and idleness.

“Truly, an idle hand and heart like that of FFK is the devil’s residence. Ordinarily, his rambling would have been ignored, but in this age of unrestricted access to the media even by unwholesome minds, care must be taken to put issues in the right context and perspective. The roller-coaster FFK is merely seeking to receive attention, having employed all forms of ingratiation to be recruited by the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, but failed.”

Melaye noted that Fani-Kayode had contacted Timi Frank in a bid to lobby for a position in the Atiku-Okowa campaign team.

“To be sure, he contacted Timi Frank to help lobby for a job in the Campaign Directorate, but where is the record to help his desire? As a serial hustler around food dispensers, FFK’s misadventure into the issue of the leadership of the PDP is nothing but a subtle campaign to be noticed and rewarded by prospective paymasters.

“Nigerians cannot forget in a hurry how FFK bootlicked and cajoled Yahaya Bello during his presidential experiment, but later jumped to the presidential train of Senator Ahmed Lawan in the throes of the presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress in an unabashed and unconscionable manner. Now that campaign structures have been formed by parties and he’s sidelined, having lost face everywhere, he has found the PDP as the access card to his next meal,” he said.

Melaye noted that Iyorchia Ayu, was supported by PDP governors and members of the party, and hence, emerged the PDP’s National Working Committee’s Chairman by consensus, due to his reputation and political profile.

He added, “Is FFK so obtuse that he can not understand that delegates could not have trekked from everywhere to Abuja without being transported? Has he not recovered well enough from the doses administered during his rehabilitation to understand that governors and other leaders supported delegates from all states to the National Convention? Is he equating the sound mind of Judges with his own reprobate mind that he’s threatening to go to court over a matter that he has neither locus nor a reasonable cause?

“Often when the issue of FFK comes up, I easily call to mind the time-standing analysis by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo, of his personality, and the assertion that food is FFK’s price. His likes are appropriately described in Philippians 3:19, as belonging to the class of those ‘whose god is their belly, and whose glory is their shame. Sorry, PDP has no food for the lazy. And knowing FFK’s reputation for political scavenging, let me also ask him the unanswered question. FFK, who bankrolled your statement?”.
