Building Collapse: Family Loses Three Girls In Jigawa

Following the collapse of a building at Jigawar Tsada village in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State, at least children have reportedly lost their lives.

According to a community, the leader said the sad incident took place after a heavy downpour on Thursday night.

He said the building collapsed while the children were sleeping and all of the victims died on the spot.

Police spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident to DAILY POST.

He said the building collapsed at Jigawar Tsada village due to the heavy rain which lasted for hours on Wednesday night.

They include 6 years Farida Idi, 3 years Mariya Idi and 1 year, 6 months old baby, Bilkisu Yahaya.

According to him, on receiving the report, detectives moved to the scene, evacuated their bodies, and rushed them to General Hospital Dutse.

He said all three girls were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Shiisu said their corpses were released to their relatives for burial according to Islamic rite.

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, CP Aliyu Sale Tafida condoled with the parent, family, and relatives and prayed to the Almighty Allah to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Chelsea announced the arrival of Potter from Brighton on Thursday as he takes charge as head coach from Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea on Wednesday in a decision that shocked the fan base.

The German was dismissed following Chelsea’s Champions League 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb.

However, Potter now has the reign, and Chelsea fans will be firmly behind the Englishman at the helm.

According to The Telegraph, Potter signed a five-year deal with Todd Boehly’s Chelsea worth £12million a year, which is one of the longest in the Blues’ history.

Hours after the demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, whose ties with Britain have been affected by the invasion of Ukraine has reacted.

Joining other world leaders to condole the people of Britain, Putin reached out to King Charles III in a telegram, declaring that Elizabeth II rightfully enjoyed the love and respect of her subjects, as well as an authority on the world stage.

Putin said: ‘The most important events in the recent history of the United Kingdom are inextricably linked with the name of Her Majesty,’.

‘For many decades, Elizabeth II rightfully enjoyed the love and respect of her subjects, as well as an authority on the world stage.

‘I wish you courage and perseverance in the face of this heavy, irreparable loss. I ask you to convey the words of sincere sympathy and support to the members of the royal family and all the people of Great Britain.’

Queen Elizabeth, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, and the nation’s figurehead for seven decades died at her home in Scotland aged 96, on Thursday.

Her eldest son, Charles, 73, automatically becomes king of the United Kingdom and the head of state of 14 other realms including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. His wife Camilla becomes Queen Consort.

PDP Ex-Chairman BoT, Jibrin Forced Out Of Office – Olaka

A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Olaka Nwogu, has said Senator Walid Jibrin was hounded out of office as BoT chairman of the party against his will in order to sustain Iyorcha Ayu (PDP chairman) in office.

Senator Nwogu disclosed this on Friday while featuring on the Arise TV Morning Show program.

Recall that Jibrin had announced his resignation at a meeting of the PDP BoT at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja, on Thursday.

In his replacement, former Senate President, Adophous Wabara, was appointed the new BoT chairman in a move aimed at appeasing the Governor Nyesom Wike’s camp, who were demanding inclusivity in the party’s hierarchy.

However, Senator Olaka has come out to say that Jibrin resigned against his own will, saying pressure was mounted on him to vacate the BoT chairmanship position.

“Firs of all, I found it sad that it got to a point that these people had to hound the BoT Chairman out of office. This is an old man whose office was clearly inconsequential and was not the issue.

“But he has been hounded out just to create a picture as though an office has finally come to the South.

“He was practically hounded out of the office. He had no choice. The pressure that was put on him came from every quarter just to make sure Ayu is sustained in the office. And it’s sad,” he said.

The PDP has been embroiled in political crisis since after its presidential primary, with Governor Wike of Rivers State and Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate, at the centre of it.

FG Declares League Management Company Illegal

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared illegal the body which has been administering the Nigeria Professional League for almost a decade.

This development was contained in a press statement issued on Friday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ismaila Abubakar.

The ministry said the drastic action became necessary, especially after a competent court of jurisdiction has since declared the League Management Company (LMC) an illegal body.

It is being argued that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) fraudulently floated the LMC to avoid and evade pre-existing debts and other obligations owed by the organization it succeeded; the Nigeria Premier League Limited, which is originally mandated by law to run a professional football league in Nigeria.

Thus the federal government advised the NFF to promptly withdraw the license given to the LMC and, in the meantime, set up an Interim Management Committee (IMC).

In view of the several unpleasant incidents regarding the management of the Football League, specifically, the declaration of the National Football League (NFL) as an illegal body by the Court; the status of the League Management Company (LMC), the NFL’s successor-in-title being outside the purview of the Statutes of the NFF; the Federal Government is constrained to withdraw its recognition of the LMC as the operator of the Nigeria Professional Football League, with immediate effect.

This decision has become necessary because of the obvious aberration (which is at variance with our football statutes or the laws of the land) whereby a private company is gifted the mandate to manage or run the league indefinitely, without the full involvement of and leadership by the clubs, and devoid of any process to monitor the progress and development of the game.

Sequel to the above, and in order to rescue our domestic football from total collapse, the BOARD OF THE LMC AND THE LMC AS A BODY WOULD NO LONGER BE RECOGNISED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AS OPERATOR OF THE NIGERIAN PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

To avert further chaos in our domestic football, the NFF is advised to immediately withdraw the Licence given to the LMC and, in the meantime, set up an Interim Management Committee (IMC), to include the current Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of the LMC to oversee the affairs of the League until a proper Professional League Board is constituted in accordance with the Statutes of the NFF.

The statement was signed by Permanent Secretary Ismaila Abubakar.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar of having ties with the detained terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu and his principal, Ahmad Gumi.

Recalled that Tukur Mamu, who is said to be a spokesman of the controversial Islamic cleric, Gumi was arrested in Egypt on Tuesday and repatriated on Wednesday.

The suspect is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, who raided his home on Thursday and recovered several items.

However, in a statement he personally signed on Friday, Fani-Kayode, a lawyer, alleged that both “Mamu and Gumi are associates of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri Adamawa and the presidential candidate of the opposition PDP”.

According to him, Atiku Abubakar, Ahmad Gumi and Tukur Mamu “are close NOT merely because they took a picture but because they have TRAVELLED together all over the country in private jets on several occasions.”

The statement reads in part, “I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they supported him and campaigned for him in the 2019 presidential election and they are supporting him and lobbying and campaigning for him again for the 2023 presidential election,.

“I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they are hardline and strong supporters and backers of the PDP, they have spent plenty of time with him over the last few years and they are in touch with him on a regular basis.

“I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they are amongst those that insisted that he should run for the Presidency once again in 2023, clinch the presidential ticket of the PDP and keep power in the North even though the party had zoned the position to the South and even though it has a Northern National Chairman.

“I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they have a pathological hatred for and are in stiff opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC and the Federal Government and they are committed to ensuring that they are removed from power.

“There can be no doubt that their relationship is deep and profound and this requires a thorough examination and clinical investigation by the security and intelligence agencies”.

King Charles III has asked for a period of Royal Mourning to be observed from Friday until seven days after the Queen’s funeral, according to a Buckingham Palace statement, which added that the date of the funeral will be confirmed “in due course.” 

Royal Residences will close until after the Queen’s funeral, according to the Palace.

Royal Mourning is a separate process to National Mourning, which also began on Friday.

The period of Royal Mourning will be observed by “Members of the Royal Family, Royal Household staff and Representatives of the Royal Household on official duties, together with troops committed to Ceremonial Duties,” according to Buckingham Palace’s statement.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese echoed the words Queen Elizabeth II used more than 20 years ago to comfort New York following the September 11 terrorist attacks as he paid tribute on Friday to the British monarch following her death.

There is comfort to be found in her majesty’s own words, ‘grief is the price we pay for love,’” Albanese said in an early morning televised address. “This is a loss we feel deeply in Australia. Queen Elizabeth II is the only reigning monarch most of us have known and the only one to ever visit Australia.”

Albanese noted the Queen had visited Australia 16 times during her reign, traveling to every state and territory in the country.

CNN spoke with some of the Australians who showed up to sign a condolence book at a church in Sydney.

Dozens were waiting at any one time and the line extended out the door of the church.

Chase Griffiths, who served in the Australian navy for more than seven years, said “hearing the news this morning was quite devastating.”

“It can’t be denied that there’s some kind of sentiment toward the Queen,” regardless of people’s feelings on the monarchy itself, he said, referring to a long-running debate over whether the country should become a republic.

Oliver Addis said the Queen was somebody “who put others before herself, fundamentally. She put her job as the Queen, and all that that represented, ahead of her personal wishes.” 

“I think the trouble with our leaders today is so many of them put themselves and their personal wishes ahead of those of the nation,” he said.

“I take my hat off to her.” 

Kylie Riddle said she planned to write “God Bless the Queen” in the condolence book, adding that the Queen will “be missed.” 

She’s always been part of Australia,” Riddle said.
