UN May Follow League Of Nation’s Fate By Going Bust – Medvedev Warns

Israel's Intention To Supply Arms To Ukraine Will Destroy Relations With Russia - Medvedev
Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev

The fate of the United Nations could end up like that of its predecessor, the League of Nations, if the powers of the permanent members of the UN Security Council get “breached,” Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev warned.

He referred to a recent initiative by the Americans who proposed some “compromises in reform” at the UN Security Council and moves to reconsider the status quo.

“Compromises differ. If this one implies an attempt by the US driven by its zoological anti-Russian frenzy to breach the powers of UNSC permanent members, well, they’ll make themselves sick gulping down dust.

Otherwise, the United Nations would suffer the fate of the League of Nations that went bust,” Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel on Friday.

The League of Nations (1920-1946) was the first global organization designed to ensure peace and cooperation between nations. Despite certain achievements, the League failed to fulfil collective security tasks. The UN succeeded the organization after World War II.

The UN Security Council, one of the five principle organs of the United Nations, has Great Britain, China, Russia, the United States and France as its permanent members.

Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo, says the All Progressives Congress (APC), will triumph in the South-East in the 2023 general election, because it is the only party with structures in all the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the country.

Uzodimma, also the Chairman of APC Presidential Campaign Council in the South-East, said this at a seminar organised by the party for its candidates in Owerri.

”APC is already winning and will win in the South-East because APC is the only political party that has party structure at the polling units and booths in all 774 LGAs of the country, “ he said.

Uzodimma said that the seminar was aimed at planning for a successful electioneering campaigns for 2023 poll.

“The participants must carry others along as they cannot lead or win elections in isolation,” he said.

He said that the South-East has every cause to appreciate what President Muhammadu Buhari has done for the zone in his almost eight years as the President of Nigeria.

He listed the president’s achievements in the South-East to include the second Niger Bridge and the rehabilitation of the Federal Highways in the zone.

Others were the establishment of a Naval Base in Oguta LGA of Imo as well as the on-going reconstruction of 200 bed hospital at Imo University Teaching Hospital Orlu by NNPC, among others.

He cautioned members of the party against deceit by groups who often claim to support the South-East Presidency after they failed to support aspirants from the zone at the presidential primaries of the APC.

“The Igbo people have been a victim of mistaken identity. There is the need for the South-East to take their destiny in their own hands because if you don’t say I am, nobody will say you are,” he said.

The seminar was attended by executives and members of the APC across the South-East as well as present and former political office holders of the party. (NAN)

Premier League Matches Postponed After Death Of Queen Elizabeth II

The Premier League, English Football League and Women’s Super League have announced that all of this weekend’s matches have been postponed as a mark respect for Queen Elizabeth II, who has passed away at the age of 96.

All matches in all the divisions across the weekend, up to and including Monday night’s Premier League fixture between Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, have been called off, with non-league and grassroots football also cancelled.

It had been confirmed that Friday night’s EFL fixtures at Tranmere’s Prenton Park and Burnley’s Turf Moor were postponed shortly after news of the Queen’s death emerged on Thursday.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said: “We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s long and unwavering service to our country.

“As our longest-serving monarch, she has been an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy following a life of dedication.

“This is a tremendously sad time for not just the nation but also for the millions of people around the world who admired her, and we join together with all those in mourning her passing.”

In their staetement, the EFL said: “Further to discussions on Friday morning it has been determined that all EFL fixtures from 9-10 September will be postponed as a mark of respect by the National Sport to the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

“This is aligned with the approach that the Premier League and the FA will take with their competitions this weekend.

“Further information, in respect of how football, Clubs and their supporters will commemorate Her Majesty’s reign will be confirmed at an appropriate point.

“Details regarding rearranged games will be announced in due course.”

The Queen, Britain’s longest-serving monarch, passed away at Balmoral on Thursday where she was surrounded by family.

She is succeeded by her eldest son, now King Charles III.

Julian Knight, the chair of the Digital, Culture, media and Sport select committee, had earlier confirmed that individual sports can decide themselves whether they wanted to stage matches or not.

“This seems to be a sensible approach – that it’s going to be up to individual sports how they mark the passing of our remarkable Queen,” he said.

“Whether that is silences, the wearing of black armbands or the singing of the National Anthem, or whether there will be those who wish at this time that perhaps there won’t be having an event at all – it’s completely up to the individual sports.

“But the Government guidance seems to be relatively flexible and understanding.”

In cricket, the second day of the Test match between England and South Africa at The Oval is not taking place on Friday, with horse racing also postponed across the country on Friday and Saturday, resuming on Sunday.

However, Friday’s rugby union fixtures are set to go ahead, as is the one match in rugby league’s Super League.

Grain Deal Not Implemented As Intended - Andrey Rudenko
Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko

The grain deal is not being implemented quite as intended, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko told reporters on Friday.

“We’re looking at how it’s being implemented (the deal – TASS),” he added, adding, “Unfortunately, it’s not being implemented quite as planned.”

Rudenko stressed that the extension of the agreement will depend on “how all the components will be implemented”.

The second part of the grain deal, which concerns exports of Russian grains and fertilizers, is still facing difficulties, Rudenko added. “The second part of the deal, namely exports of Russian grains and fertilizers, unfortunately still faces difficulties,” he said.

A package of documents geared to resolve the problem of food and fertilizer supplies on global markets was signed on July 22 in Istanbul. One of the documents envisages a mechanism of exporting grain from Ukraine-controlled Black Sea ports. An agreement between Russia, Turkey and the United Nations established a four-side coordination center to search ships carrying grain to prevent weapons smuggling and avoid provocations.
