A man in Adamawa State, Ibrahim Muhammadu, has been arrested by the police for allegedly setting ablaze a newly married woman and her husband because the woman jilted him.

Ibrahim Muhammadu, who hails from Gadawaliwol in Jabbi Lamba, Girei Local Government Area, got someone to set fire on the couple earlier in the week, September 6, barely two weeks after their wedding.

It was learnt yesterday that the woman died due to severe burns while the man was receiving treatment in the hospital.

Facts on the matter have it that Ibrahim Muhammad, who is married with four children, fell in love with the deceased and spent about N150, 000 on her after she agreed to marry him.

The deceased, allegedly after collecting the money, declined the proposal and got married to another suitor: the man currently battling with his life at the hospital. سباق حصان

Nigerian, 29 Declared Wanted By US For Allegedly Defrauding Hospital $31m

A 29-year-old Nigerian man, Chidozie Collins Obasi, has been declared wanted in the United States for alleged fraud.

The Nigerian is accused of allegedly defrauding US hospitals of $31 million by offering non-existent COVID-19 ventilators for sale.

This was disclosed in a statement by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) on Friday.

It added that the suspect perpetrated the scheme from Nigeria with the support of co-conspirators abroad between September 2018 and June 2020.

Obasi and his accomplices allegedly received more than $31,000,000 through a complicated fraud scheme, the majority coming from the State of New York.

“The scheme alleged in the Indictment began in September 2018, with a spam email campaign that offered phony “work from home” jobs.

“When a person responded to the phony job offer, Obasi or a co-conspirator posed as a representative of a legitimate company, often a supposed medical equipment supplier based outside the United States, and offered the person a job as the company’s U.S. representative with responsibilities including collecting on outstanding invoices.

“An accomplice in Canada then sent the new ’employee’ counterfeit checks purportedly from customers of the company, and the new ’employee’ deposited the checks, took a commission, and wired the rest of the money to a foreign bank account ostensibly owned by the fake company. Obasi and his co-conspirators obtained more than $1 million in this manner.

“In 2020, Obasi went further to pose as a ventilator salesman for an Indonesian medical supply company.

“In approximately March 2020, soon after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States and ventilators were in high demand, Obasi posed as a representative of an Indonesian-based medical supply company offering ventilators for sale, and claimed to have a large stockpile of ventilators manufactured by a German company.

“Obasi allegedly convinced a medical equipment broker in the U.S. to broker sales of these non-existent ventilators, and ultimately deceived the State of New York into wiring more than $30 million for the purchase of ventilators that did not exist.

“He continued to target other potential customers with this same scam, including hospitals.

“Later, in approximately June 2020, Obasi and his accomplices took advantage of the EID Loan programme by using stolen identities of U.S. citizens to apply for and obtain more than $135,000 in EID Loan proceeds”, the statement read.

According to the indictment sheet, Obasi who is presently a fugitive, is being charged with “one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, six counts of mail fraud, and 16 counts of wire fraud.”

He faces a maximum sentence of 21 years in prison, a five-year period of supervised release, and a $5,750,000 fine and would also be required to make full restitution of the more than $31,000,000 that he allegedly obtained by fraud if found guilty.

DSS Committing Terrorism By Arresting, Detaining Tukur Mamu — Gunmi

Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to either release Tukur Mamu or charge him to court.

Citing the law, Gumi said anybody arrested over an alleged crime needs to be taken to court within 24 hours.

Mamu, who negotiated the release of some of the victims of the Kaduna -Abuja train attack, was arrested at Cairo International Airport on his way to Saudi Arabia for Lesser Hajj.

He was deported back and picked up by the DSS at Kano International Airport.

The DSS subsequently said Mamu has questions to answer on the rising insecurity in the country.

During his weekly preaching at Sultan Bello Mosque, Gumi said Mamu was arrested because of his role in assisting victims of terrorist attacks.

The cleric, who said God has a way of testing a believer, added that the arrest of Mamu was God’s way of testing his faith, praying that Mamu would overcome it.

“Take him to court to face trial. Keeping him in custody despite being a family man was just to intimidate him. This intimidation is also terrorism. Arresting people unjustly is also terrorism; just like the terrorists do by going to somebody’s house to kidnap him.

“How can we continue in this situation under a government that is about to wind up? Our hope is for them to finish successfully not in a bad light. It’s not about Tukur Mamu, you all know that whenever they arrest innocent people, I always talk, not to talk of someone that I know and I’m only advising the government to release him so that we can apologize to him to forget what happened.”

Bauchi State Govt Set To Separate Girls From Boys In Secondary To Fight Immorality

Gov Mohammed Reappoints Ibrahim Kashim As Bauchi SSG

Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Mr Aliyu Tilde, on Friday said the state government has concluded plans to separate male and female students in secondary schools in the state.

Tilde stated this while addressing newsmen after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Bauchi, noting that it would only be executed whenever and wherever it was possible.

He explained that the idea was to address moral decadence, which he said has become prevalent among students of secondary schools.

According to him, private schools would take a cue from the initiative and separate their males who would be attending their academic activities in one institution and the females in another separate institution.

The commissioner further explained that where they can not be separated completely, their seating arrangement would be in such a manner that the males would occupy one side of a classroom and the females at the other side of the classroom.

“The most important thing is that we don’t want to undo the progress that we have made in the past on girl-child education by allowing this trend to continue.

“We came up with an idea, let us extend that 1978 abrogation of core education policy to cover our Day secondary schools as well, wherever and whenever it is possible.

“Wherever it is possible, is talking about the geography and whenever is possible is talking about the distribution in time. That is, maybe it is possible tomorrow or not in terms of separating them completely.

“Wherever is possible is where perhaps we have two day secondary schools within the same vicinity, we’ll allocate one to girls and the other to boys,” he said.

2023: Orji Kalu, Dave Umahi, Hope Uzodimma Will Ensure Massive Victory For APC In South East — Lamido

Your Victory In 2023 Certain - Yoruba Elders Tell Tinubu
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Director-General, Arewa Summit International, Dr. Bashir Lamido has argued that the ruling party , All Progressives Congress(APC) will secure enough votes in the South Eastern Region, particularly South East region that will give the party victory at presidential election.

He listed Sen. Orji Uzor, governors Dave Umahi, Hope Uzodimma and others who are on ground to ensure the victory of APC in South East.

He urged APC to ignore insinuations that South East will vote against it, saying it is a propaganda to discourage the party.

He said, “Against the backdrop that the South East will not give the party votes, I can confidently tell you that the votes from the South East is what will cement the party’s victory. We should not believe the propaganda that South East won’t vote for APC. It’s all lies aimed at discouraging our candidates.

“We have people like Orji Uzor Kalu and Dave Umahi who are on ground, committed to the party and understand the local politics . Their people will vote for them and vote for the party. We also have Hope Uzodinma and a couple of other committed party members in the South East. They will surely deliver the party.”

He also called on the APC to make their plans for the various regions before the election start in terms of the positions available to them.

He argued that lack of sense of belonging to other regions has been the issue in Nigeria, adding that Tinubu/Shettima ticket will emerge with landslide if they shun nepotism and carry all regions along.

Speaking further, Lamido said that since the South West will produce the President and North East the Vice President, other positions should be shared to other zones ahead of the election.

The Senate Presidency should be given to the South-East, while the North-West should go for the Speakership slot.

Lamido advised that the arrangement will help to win elections for Tinubu and the APC

Others are Deputy Senate President—North Central,
Deputy Speaker—-South South, Senate Leader—North East, House Leader—South East,
Deputy Leader Senate-South South,
Deputy Leader House —North West,
Senate Chief Whip —-South West,
Chief Whip House —South South.

Lamido explained that the arrangement is to mirror what the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the ruling party in 1999 presented as a governance outlook with Olusegun Obasanjo from the South-West as president. His deputy then, Atiku Abubakar, is from Adamawa in North-East.

According to him, late Evan Enwerem, the first Senate President, was from the South East. The disgraced first Speaker, Salisu Buhari, is from Kano, North-West.

Though Enwerem and Buhari were booted out of office for forgery, the slots remained in the two zones for the eight years Obasanjo and SouthWest kept the presidency.” Dr Lamido said.

The Theatre Commander, North East “Operation Hadin Kai”, Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa, said over 79,000 insurgents comprising combatants and non combatants have so far surrendered.

Musa made this known in Maiduguri while briefing newsmen on recent successes of the command.

The commander said that the sustained onslaught on the insurgents under the kinetic and non kenetic approaches had led to the mass surrender.

According to him, this led to need to have additional camps in Maiduguri to host the repentants that were being sorted out to identify the combatants and non combatants.

He lauded the support from the public, which he described as “unsung heroes” and urged them to sustain the tempo for a speedy end to the conflict.

“We are really happy with the way the members of the public were cooperating with us; they see the sincerity in what we are doing.

“We are committed to the human rights charter and the rules of engagement in our operations,” Musa said.

Also speaking on recent success, the General Officer Commanding ( GOC), 7 Division, Maiduguri, Maj.- Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, said that within the period under review, three more Chibok girls were also rescued.

Shuaibu said the girls rescued comprised Falmata Lawan, Asabe Ali and Jinkal Yama, who are on serial number three, 12 and 20, respectively on the list of abducted Chibok girls.

IPOB Declares Tuesday Sit-At-Home In South-East

IPOB Dismisses Umahi’s Claim Of Ongoing Talks For Kanu’s Release

The Indigenous People of Biafra has declared Tuesday, September 13, as sit-at-home in the South-East.

The pro-Biafran group stated that the directive was in solidarity with its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who will be appearing in court on that day.

They insisted that there shall be a total lockdown of the whole five states in the South-East for two reasons: Kanu’s court appearance and the visit of the President, Major General Muhammad Buhari to Owerri, Imo State.

In a statement on Saturday, the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said IPOB is simply implementing an existing order to lock down Biafraland any day its leader will appear in court at Abuja.

The statement read in part, “The global family and movement of the IPOB wishes to announce to the general public, especially Biafrans that Tuesday, September 13, has been declared a day of civil action in the form of Sit-At-Home in Biafraland.

“Tuesday’s civil action is very important for two reasons: First, our leader’s Appeal court hearing that was supposed to be on October 11 has been brought forward to September 13, 2022.

“As usual, we call on Biafrans and lovers of freedom to demonstrate our solidarity with our leader who is bearing our yoke in detention for over a year now.

“IPOB never issued a new directive to Biafrans, but is simply implementing an existing order to lock down Biafraland any day our leader will appear in court at Abuja.

“It was based on such agreement with our leader that informed the suspension of the initial Mondays sit-at-home declared by IPOB leadership in August of 2021.

“It is imperative that our people understand this and go about their daily work and businesses on Monday and get prepared for Tuesday, September 13, 2022 because Biafraland will be locked down completely.

“Secondly, it has come to our knowledge that the Imo State Government has decided to invite President Muhammadu Buhari to Oweeri the Imo state capital Tuesday the 13th of September 2022 the very same day the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will be appearing in Court.

“There shall be a total lock down of the whole of Biafraland on Tuesday the 13th of September 2022. The Imposter Buhari cannot be coming to Imo State while he continues to detain our leader Mazi Nnamdi in the DSS custody.

“Kanu must be released unconditionally because he committed no crime known to law. We must warn women groups, the clergymen and women, traditional rulers, president-generals and others who may be contemplating going to Owerri on Tuesday to welcome Buhari.

“If you are in support of Buhari detaining our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, then go to Owerri on Tuesday the 13th day of September and welcome the President.

“We, therefore, expect all markets, schools, banks, businesses and companies including police stations in Biafra Land to be under lock and key on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 in solidarity with our Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“IPOB members are peaceful. We don’t enforce sit-at-home. Nevertheless, we wouldn’t tolerate people flouting IPOB leadership directives.

“Therefore, everyone in the Biafran territory must adhere to this civil action in the form of sit-at-home on Tuesday. Biafrans are not known to be cowards because we stand without fear before our enemies.”

Gov. Ikpeazu Commissions Another Road Project, Says Essence Of Governance Is About Democratic Dividends
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu

Abia State Governor on Friday played his to his Oyo State counterpart, Engr. Seyi Makinde during the commissioning of the newly constructed Nwaobasi Ring Road, Ehere and Umuakatawom – Osaa Okea Road road in Obingwa LGA.

At the project commissioning, the governor reiterated that the essence of governance is to bring about democratic dividends to the people, assuring that he would complete all his road projects before leaving office.

He announced that next week, commissioning of road  projects in Umuahia, the State capital would commence, Onyebuchi Ememanka, chief press Secretary to the Governor said in a statement.

The governor said that the construction of Nwaobasi Ring Road was one of his strategic thinking in enabling free flow traffic in Aba and enhancing economic development in the State.  He said that the road would serve many people including those who would want to get to Umuahia from Ikot-ekpene road without passing through Aba main town.

Governor Ikpeazu recalled the impassible nature of the road as it was practically impossible to move from Opobo road to Ehere market, making it difficult to access the market. He said that his government embarked on constructing the road is a reflection of his administration effort to reach out to residents who feel neglected.

The statement read in part, “He said that the Umuakatawom road crisscrosses many rural communities, emphasising that the road was the first asphalted road in that community. According to him, the road was delivered in line with specifications and in record time.

“Commissioning the projects, the special guest of honour and Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for constructing the roads to ensure that the local economy is positively affected. He expressed happiness that Governor Ikpeazu fixed the Nwaobasi road which is a neglected road and maintained that he was proud to be associated with Governor Ikpeazu, who he descibed as a performing Governor, a leading light and a true  progressive.

“Governor Makinde used the opportunity to reveal that he has not been appointed the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum , explaining that if the Chairman resigned his appointment, it is the Deputy Chairman of the Forum, being Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who would take over as the Chairman of the forum. He appreciated Governor Ikpeazu for appointing members of the Yoruba community to positions of authority and urged them to remain supportive of the administration.

“In his speech, the Commissioner for Works, Barr. Bob Ogu said the roads are strategic, saying that while the Nwaobasi Ring Road links the Ikot-ekpene road and Umuahia without having to pass through  Aba town, the Umuakatawom road which is located in a rural area close to Aba would assist in ensuring that agricultural produce gets to Aba.

“Earlier in their speeches, the Chairman, Obingwa LGA, Mrs. Uloma Nwogu and the Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Ndubuisi Nwabekee lauded Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for fixing the roads. They said that the Governor has done well in all sectors of the economy, especially that of road infrastructure where he has done over 150 roads in the State

“Speaking on behalf of members of the Yoruba community in Abia State, Mr. Babatunde Olamidele welcomed the Oyo State Governor and extolled Governor Ikpeazu for appointing him and other non indigens to political positions and assured him of their unalloyed support.

“Also speaking, some beneficiaries of the road, including Eze Young Nwangwa, Rev. Paulinus Ngele of Assemblies of God Church, the Ehere Association Youth President , Dr. Okezie Emeka Henry thanked the Governor for constructing the roads narrating that they have suffered untold hardship in the past before the Governor’s intervention.

“The event attracted the presence of the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, members of the State House of Assembly, PDP Governorship candidate, Prof. Uche Ikonne, President, Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Okey Nwamoh, Secretary to Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, PDP Senatorial Candidate for Abia Central, Col. Austin Akobundu (Rtd), Commissioners, PDP State Chairman, LGA Chairmen,Traditional Rulers, members of the clergy amongst other dignitaries.”
