Justice M. Itsueli of Edo State High Court, sitting in Benin- City, has convicted and sentenced the duo of Nnamdi Theo-Joseph Duru and Israel Oluwaseun Ayoomoni to eight years imprisonment for internet- related fraud.
Duru and Ayoomoni were convicted, after pleading guilty to one- count separate charge, bordering on, retention of proceeds of criminal conduct and possession of documents containing false pretense, upon their arraignment by the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The lone- count charge against Duru reads: “that you Nnamdi Theo-Joseph Duru sometimes between 1st January, 2017 to November, 2021 in Edo State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did retain the aggregate sum of N8,000,432,22 in your Access Bank Account Number:0090793423 knowing that same represent proceeds of your criminal conduct to wit’ Cybercrime and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 17(a) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment ) Act 2004 and punishable under Section ßdź17(b) of the same Act.”
The defendants pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to them.
Based on their pleas, prosecution counsel, K.Y. Bello, prayed the court to convict and sentence them accordingly. العاب روليت However, counsel to the defendants, Pascal Ugbome and Osaro Uyi prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, as the defendants had shown remorse for their actions.
Justice Itsuell convicted and sentenced Duru to five years imprisonment, with an option of fine of N500,000 ( Five Hundred Thousand Naira) while Ayoomoni bagged three years imprisonment or a fine of N200,000 ( Two Hundred Thousand Naira).
The judge also ordered Duru to forfeit the sum of $34,000 ( Thirty-Four Thousand United States Dollars), recovered from him in the course of investigation, to the Federal Bureau of Investigation as restitution to the victim while Ayoomoni also forfeited the sum of N23,742.36( Twenty Three Thousand, Seven Hundred and Forty Two Naira, Thirty Six kobo) in his Guaranty Bank account and the sum of N20,022. الكازينو في السعوديه 10( Twenty Thousand, Twenty Two Naira, Ten Kobo) in his Polaris Bank account and the sum of 25 USD( Twenty Five United States Dollars) which were recovered from him as proceeds of crime to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

In Canberra, Governor General David Hurley, the monarch’s representative in Australia, proclaimed Charles with a 21-gun salute at Parliament House.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said a national day of mourning for the Queen would take place on September 22, with the day to be a public holiday. He also announced that he would attend Her Majesty’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey on September 19.
As a mark of respect, national flags in Australia are at half-mast, parliament has been suspended and a giant portrait of the Queen has been displayed on the sails of the Sydney Opera House.

And in Ottawa, a 28-member band of the Canadian Armed Forces played God Save the King during a 21-run gun salute at a proclamation ceremony attended by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Though Canadians are somewhat indifferent to the monarchy, many had great affection for the Queen, whose silhouette marks their coins. She was the head of state for 45% of Canada’s existence and visited the country 22 times as monarch.
Flags on the castle and council buildings in Wales, which had been flying at half-mast, were returned to full-mast on Saturday, to coincide with the Reading of the Principal Proclamation of the new monarch in London. Flags will return to half-mast at 1pm on Sunday after the Proclamation is read in Cardiff.
The Senedd will also be recalled at 3pm to allow members to pay tribute to the Queen. All other business has been suspended until after the state funeral on Monday September 19.
The King and Queen are to visit Wales on Friday, having already attended ceremonies in Belfast and Edinburgh – as part of their trip around the UK, codenamed Operation Spring Tide.
While in the Welsh capital for the accession visit, the royal couple will take part in a service at Llandaff Cathedral alongside senior faith leaders from communities across the city. They will then head to the Senedd, the Welsh Parliament, to receive a Motion of Condolence.
This will be followed by a reception at Cardiff Castle where First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, and the Speaker of the Senedd, Elin Jones, will get a private audience with the King.
The King and Queen will then meet members of the public who have gathered inside the castle grounds.
Yesterday King Charles paid tribute to the reign of the late Queen, ‘unequalled in its duration, its dedication and its devotion’, as he was formally declared the nation’s new monarch.
During a poignant and sombre meeting of the Accession Council, the King spoke movingly about his mother and the grief his family is experiencing, but said the ‘sympathy expressed by so many to my sister and brothers’ had been the ‘greatest consolation’.
Watched by the Queen, the new Prince of Wales and more than 200 privy counsellors – including six former prime ministers – the King pledged himself to the task now before him and the ‘heavy responsibilities of Sovereignty’.
His mother would be his guide for the years ahead as he strived to ‘follow the inspiring example I have been set in upholding constitutional government’, he added.
The day included a moment of pomp and pageantry with David White, Garter King of Arm, in his colourful regalia and flanked by other Officers of Arms and Sergeants at Arms, reading the proclamation of the new King from a balcony at St James’s Palace.
Meanwhile, in Scotland, the late Queen’s other children, Princess Royal, Duke of York and Earl of Wessex, and their families attended a service at Balmoral’s Crathie Kirk where their mother regularly worshipped.
Afterwards, Anne, her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence and her children Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips joined Andrew and his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and Edward and the Countess of Wessex with their daughter Lady Louise, at the gates of Balmoral Castle to look at floral tributes left for the late monarch.
Eugenie wiped away tears at one point and was hugged by her father Andrew, and returned the comforting gesture.
Charles began his momentous day by discharging the ‘sorrowful duty’ of announcing the death of his ‘beloved mother’, and told the council: ‘I know how deeply you, the entire nation – and I think I may say the whole world – sympathise with me in the irreparable loss we have all suffered.

The governorship candidate of Action Peoples Party (APP) for the 2023 gubernatorial election in Abia state, Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu on Saturday continued his state-wide verification tour in Abia North, beginning from Arochukwu where he said that he is on a mission to fix the state.
Chief Mascot Kalu arrived the ancient kingdom of Arochukwu, the headquarters of Arochukwu LGA, in the company of APP’s Deputy State Chairman, Chukwu Ndem Chukwu; APP’s candidate for Ohafia/Arochukwu Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Prince Arua Arunsi; APP’s candidate for Arochukwu State Constituency; and his entire entourage, where they were received by elated executive members of APP, Reality Organization, and OUK Movement for a brief town hall meeting.
In his address to the people, Chief Kalu said his party, APP, is on a mission to fix Abia state, stating that his government house’s experience will enable him to hit the ground running immediately if elected as Governor. He, therefore, admonished the people to become fishers of men to realize the dream of fixing Abia.
“APP is the gathering of brethren that is coming to fix Abia. But for that to happen, you people have to be fishers of men. So go to your respective wards and spread the good news; bring out your people for me to speak to them personally when I come on ward tour.

Elder statesman and First Republic Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amechi, Sunday described the death of the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II as a dignified loss to England and the world.
Chief Amechi who spoke with Vanguard on a day he also spoke with the British Broadcasting Cooperation BBC, in his Ukpor home in Nnewi South Local Government Area Anambra State, where he also told them his disappointment with the British government’s several negative roles in Nigeria, urged the new monarch to do better than the deceased queen, just as to ensure that the mistakes of the past are not repeated.
The elder statesman who did not hide his disappointment with the British government’s alleged roles in the creation of imbalances, potholes, and unreasonable bumps in Nigeria, that is hurting the country and it’s people, which seems so difficult to overcome, urged the British government to correct their mistakes in Nigeria with the forthcoming presidential election by ensuring the winner is not denied his mandate through the rigging.

Popular skit maker Oga Sabinus better known as Mr. Funny was earlier today involved in a horrific car crash, ABN TV reports.
According to information available on social media, he was returning from just proposing to his girlfriend when the accident happened.
The accident which happened somewhere in Lagos, saw both him and his brother come out unscratched, with the car totally destroyed.
Fans and followers of popular skit maker and actor Oga Sabinus, better known as Mr Funny, flooded social media to react to a post about him being involved in a car accident.
A Twitter user identified as Ajebo Danny shared the report while posting a picture of Sabinus’ new Benz.
Sharing the post, he wrote: “Sabinus was just involved in an accident in his new Benz and he survived. A suspected drunk driver ran into him from the other side of the road this morning when he was driving home.”
A former National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Ray Nnaji, has talked about the chances that Peter Obi has in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview earlier today, Chief Nnaji stated that the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, would not make any significant impact in the 2023 elections.
He claimed that with the absence of his supporters ‘Obidients’ in the North, the only place Peter Obi would get support is the South and according to him, it wouldn’t be enough to clinch victory.
He said: “If Obi will make serious impact, it is not now but in the future. Obi will only make impact in the South. His impact will not be able to upstage the impact of the ruling APC, not to talk of PDP that is planning to take over. The votes that will be coming from the North alone will determine what will happen, and Obi and his ‘Obidients’ are not there in the North.”
Further speaking, Chief Nnaji maintained that having failed to to fulfil half of the promise they made to Nigerians, the APC are not favourites to win.

Lagos State-based lawyer and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi, has disclosed that there might be a revolution if the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi doesn’t emerge as the next president of Nigeria.

Prof. Taiwo Obindo, President, of the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria (APN), says that more than 60 million Nigerians are suffering from mental illnesses.
Obindo, who is also the Chairman, Faculty of Psychiatry, West African College of Physicians, Nigeria Chapter, said this in an interview with the Newsmen on Sunday in Abuja.
“Mental healthcare is in a sorry state given that we have more than 60 million Nigerians suffering from various mental illnesses and the fact that only about 10 per cent of them were able to access appropriate care.
“We are left with more than 90 per cent who are unable to access care and this group is called the treatment gap for mental illnesses,’’ Obindo said.
He said the gap was as a result of various factors like the knowledge gap in which people do not have appropriate information about the causes and treatment for mental illnesses.
Obindo said some factors hindering the management of mental illness in Nigeria included myths and traditional beliefs; inadequate mental health facilities and number of mental health professionals. لعبه bingo
According to him, the few available mental health facilities were located in the city centres.
“Knowing that 60 per cent of Nigerians live in the rural areas, they do not have access to appropriate care and have to travel long distances to access facilities,” Obindo said.
He also said that the number of mental health practitioners was low as it fell below the ratio recommended by the World Health Organization.

“The environment in which we practice, the security situation, and the remuneration that people were given in the country tend to push them out.
“And then, of course, the pull factor from the developed countries where they tend to poach on the already trained medical practitioners in the country, particularly the psychiatrists,” he said.
Obindo said that the cost of hiring practitioners in low medium income countries was low; so ”it was easier for developed countries to poach the already made products rather than training such professionals locally.”
He said there was the need for Nigeria to implement its Mental Health Policy on the practice of psychiatry.

He said one major component of the policy was the integration of mental health into primary healthcare, which was yet to be achieved after nine years.
The psychiatrist added that the law operating in the country was the “lunacy act”, which was first enacted in 1916 and reviewed in 1958.
”The Mental Health Bill by the mental health stakeholders led by the Association of Psychiatrists of Nigeria (APN), in conjunction with the National Assembly and the Ministry of Health was yet to be assented to by the President.
