Three police escorts in the convoy of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah representing Anambra South senatorial zone were feared dead when he was attacked at Enugwu Ukwu in Njikoka local government area of the state on Sunday.
A highly placed source, who spoke on condition of anonymity told ABN TV that the senator after escaping the near-death encounter was agitated and upset over the incident.
An eye witness said the senator was reportedly injured in the attack in which some people described as an assassination attempt on the Young Peoples Party, YPP, senator.
An eyewitness said: “Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy came under attack in Enugwu Ukwu this evening. He was ambushed by heavily armed men who opened fire on his convoy. Some of his aides were killed, including some police officers.
“The senator managed to escape as his car was riddled with bullets.
“I was driving up to that spot from the link road to the express when some people in a shop shouted at me and asked me to turn back and take another road, which I did”.
Meanwhile, the state police command has reacted to the Enugwu Ukwu incident. The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement said:
“The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command CP Echeng Echeng has led operatives to the scene where sporadical shootings took place in Enugwu Ukwu.
“Though the details of the incident is still sketchy, operatives are on ground there as operations is going on and the situation is being monitored.
Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu on Sunday called on the church to be on the lead in the quest to give Abia a new spiritual birth and drive for prosperity.
Governor Ikpeazu gave this charge this while speaking at the 2nd Session of the 17th Synod of Anglican Diocese of Aba held at the St. Phillip’s Church, Eziukwu Aba with the theme “Occupy Until I Come”.

The management of the University of Lagos has spoken on the fire incident that affected the Alumni Association Building in the school premises.
Viral videos which emerged on the Internet showed a fire incident close to the Guaranteed Trust Bank building in the school.
But according to a statement by the school’s communication unit on Sunday, the fire only affected the Alumni Association Building and investigation has commenced on the cause of the incident.
The statement sighted by our correspondent was titled ‘Fire Incident At Unilag Alumni Association Building Has Been Resolved.’
It read, “The fire incident which occurred at the UNILAG Alumni Association Building at about 10.00 a.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2022 has been effectively put out.
“The fire was swiftly checked by officers of the Fire Service, after it was detected by security operatives at the location.
“This prompt response prevented any further damage to the building.
“The affected area has since been cordoned off for investigation.
“Members of the University Community and general public are hereby assured that no fatality was recorded, and the situation is fully under control.”
Queen Elizabeth II‘s coffin has arrived in Edinburgh to lie in rest at the Palace of Holyroodhouse overnight, after tens of thousands of mourners stood for hours in the streets of the Scottish capital to pay their respects to the late monarch as she left her beloved Balmoral Castle for the last time.
The royal procession led by the hearse carrying the Queen’s oak coffin – draped in the Royal Standard for Scotland with a wreath of Balmoral flowers on top – crossed the River Forth via the Queensferry Crossing at around 4pm, nearly six hours after starting its 180-mile journey to Edinburgh.
The crowd gathered down the Royal Mile fell silent in respect as the convoy – which included a limousine carrying the late Queen’s daughter Princess Royal and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence – passed, before a round of applause and cheers broke out.
As the Queen’s coffin passed the Scottish Parliament, Scotland’s political leaders – First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar, Scottish Green co-leader Lorna Slater and Lib Dem leader Alex Cole-Hamilton – stood on the pavement outside Holyrood to pay their respects.
The hearse bearing the Queen’s coffin then arrived at the Palace just before 4.30pm, where it was received by Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex. The Queen’s cortege then received a guard of honour by the King’s Bodyguard for Scotland before the coffin was carried out of the hearse by pallbearers and taken inside the palace, where it will stay overnight before being moved to St Giles’ Cathedral tomorrow afternoon – where earlier a large crowd had gathered to witness the midday proclamation of King Charles III as head of state.
Tomorrow, King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort will visit Edinburgh and join his other siblings walking behind his late mother’s coffin when it is moved from the Palace to St Giles’ Cathedral. At 7.20pm, the monarch will hold a vigil at the late Queen’s coffin with other members of the Royal Family.
Earlier today, a single motorbike police outrider led the way as the hearse travelled at a stately pace through the Aberdeenshire countryside. At one point, as the cortege travelled through Dundee, a lone long-stemmed flower could be seen on the hearse windscreen and in a rural part of the route farmers paid homage to the monarch with tractors lined up in a field.
Hundreds lined the main street of Ballater, the picturesque Victorian village closest to the Balmoral estate, where locals considered her a neighbour, as the Queen’s coffin was driven slowly through. Her Majesty and her family were often seen in the village in Royal Deeside, which she had visited since childhood and where the Royal Family have space to be themselves.
The hearse passed Glenmuick Church, where the Rev David Barr rang the church bells 70 times after the Queen’s death was announced.
Flowers were thrown into the hearse’s path by well-wishers on both sides of the road in Ballater, which was sombre and silent. The hearse slowed to a fast walking pace and mourners could clearly see the royal standard-draped coffin and the wreath featuring flowers from the Balmoral estate, including sweet peas – one of the Queen’s favourite flowers – dahlias, phlox, white heather and pine fir.
Earlier, the Queen’s oak coffin was carried to the hearse by six Balmoral estate gamekeepers tasked with the symbolic gesture. It had been at rest in the Balmoral ballroom so the monarch’s estate workers could say their goodbyes.
Officers of the Kaduna State Police Command have battled and rescued three kidnapped victims from bandits in two different locations in the state.
The Command’s spokesman, Mohammed Jalige, said one Yusuf Abubakar of Dorayi village from Kano State was rescued by officers on the Ikara-Tashan Yari road, in the Ikara Local Government Area of the state.
Also, Jalige added that two housewives kidnapped all the way from Kano State by the hoodlums were rescued.
These, Jalige noted, were not without stiff resistance from the daredevil bandits, who engaged officers in a gun battle, noting, however, that the wounded bandits were forced to flee into the bush.
Items recovered, according him, were arms, ammunitions, motorcycle, as well as operational vehicles of the hoodlums.
The police spokesman said, “On the 9th September, 2022 at about 2015hrs, police operatives attached to the Division, while on intensive purposeful crime prevention patrol along Ikara-Tashan Yari road, intercepted a motorcycles conveying three persons riding in a suspicious manner.
“The operatives promptly caught up with the motorcyclists after a high-speed chase and two of the riders on sensing police pursuit jumped off the motorcycle and fled into the bush.
“The operatives upon search of the motorcycle recovered a concealed AK47 rifle loaded with ten (10) rounds of live 7.62 X 39mm ammunitions.
“The identity of the rescued man was later discovered to be the Yusuf Abdullahi Abubakar ‘m’ of Dorayi whose report of kidnap was earlier received by the Division.
“The victim and the exhibits were moved to the police station for further investigation while the fleeing culprits are being trailed for arrest. The victim has been medically evaluated and reunited with his family.”
He added, “In a related operation on the same 9th September, 2022 at 0245hrs, operatives of the Command attached to Hunkuyi Division, while on aggressive patrol along Zaria-Kano expressway, intercepted a suspicious Ford Mini Bus with Reg No. ZAR 532 XR and the occupants rather than heed the police order to halt for search, engaged the operatives in a gun duel.
“The operatives responded gallantly and in the ensuing melee, the hoodlums fled with varying bullet wounds leaving behind two (2) female occupants of the said vehicle who were rescued.
“Upon search of the vehicle, an AK47 Magazine loaded with thirty (30) rounds of live 7.62 × 39mm ammunition were recovered.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the two (2) female occupants, identified as Hafiza Haruna and Amina Haruna, are the wives of one Alhaji Haruna of Kwanan Dangora, Kano State, who were earlier kidnapped by the hoodlums.
“The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for the achievements and tasked them to do more in order to reduce crime and criminalities to the barest minimum in the state.”
Former governor of Taraba state, Jolly Nyame, has said he has forgiven all those who in one or another contributed to his conviction and subsequent remand at Kuje correctional centre for four years.
He also said he now sees life differently and prefers to assume the position of a pathfinder going forward.
He spoke weekend in Jalingo, the state capital at a reception organised to welcome him to his home state after regaining freedom.
Nyame said he believed his confinement at Kuje correctional centre while it lasted had a divine purpose.
According to him, “ I now see life differently, and now understand and know what people are passing through.
“If I want to assume any position I want to be a pathfinder.
“I also want to state that I have no grudge against anybody and I have forgiven all those behind my incarceration.”
Nyame, who told the gathering that he was back for good thanked the Federal government and the council of state for their magnanimity.
He also appreciated the state government, Senator representing Taraba South, Emmanuel Bwacha and his counterpart in Adamawa, Binos Yaroe and other political associates in the state who contributed to ensure he had a rousing welcome.
The Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Joseph Kunini, who spoke for the state government, eulogised the statesman for his resolve to forgive his transgressors.
The Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria Corpus Christi Parish Bende, in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State on Sunday 11th September 2022, presented an award of recognition to the Deputy Chairman of Bende Local Government Area, Hon Chief Promise Uzoma Okoro.

In his speech, the Deputy Chairman of Bende Local Government Area Hon Promise Uzoma Okoro advised Catholic Church Youths and Nigerian youths to prepare to take up leadership positions as according to him “the age of the youths has arrived”
The Deputy Chairman recalled that as a youth who was elected into office as Deputy Chairman, he comported himself because his success or failure determines more opportunities for other youths in Bende Local Government Area.
“When I was elected as Deputy Chairman, I told myself that if I fail, I would block further opportunities for other youths, but my success will pave way for my fellow youths, and to God be the glory that I didn’t fail,” he said.

The comments come just 10 days after Biden delivered a speech from Philadelphia where he called former President Donald Trump and his supporters a threat to democracy. Since then, the president has tried to walk back those comments, claiming he does not feel that supporters of Trump are threats to the fabric of the nation.

He claimed those ‘worst impulses’ were ‘fear, violence, recrimination directed against Muslim Americas, as well as Americans of Middle Eastern and South Asian heritage.’
The Ogun State owned security outfit, So-Safe Corps has arrested a suspected armed robber while attacking a commercial motorcyclists, otherwise known as okada rider in Idiroko.
The suspect, 22-year-old Ibrahim Oluwaseun, a resident of Olorogbo Compound, Asheko/Ibatefin Area of Ipokia Local Government, Ogun State, was arrested on Friday by operatives of the So-Safe Corps.
Oluwaseun was said to have pretended to be a passenger, as he hired the okada rider, Bamidele Mujeeb, to convey him from Aferiku Street, Idiroko to Obalana Street, along Bebe road, leading to the Republic of Benin.
According to a statement from the office of the State Commander of the So-Safe, Commander Soji Ganzallo, through the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Moruf Yusuf, it was gathered that the suspect, who was on a robbery mission, later instructed the bike man to go through a narrow route that leads to the same destination.
“The suspect then brought out a gun, later discovered to be a toy gun, and commanded that the rider surrender himself and the bike or lose his life.
“At the scene, the So-Safe patrol team, Idiroko division, led by CSC Abdulkareem Muhammad, witnessed the funny act, pounced on the suspect and got him arrested,” Yusuf said.
The corps spokesman, said “the suspect confessed to the crime during preliminary investigation.”
He added that the suspect, his victim, the motorcycle and the recovered toy gun have all been handed over to the police at Idiroko divisional headquarters for further investigation and likely prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Ipokia Area Command under, ACC Yusuf Aliu and the divisions under it have been put on their toes to curb series of crime emanating from some okada riders and to put a stop to miscreants attacking law-abiding bike riders.
