Ike Ekweremadu’s Daughter Begs Nigerians To Donate Kidney For Her

Ike Ekweremadu, wife and daughter

Sonia Chinonso Ekweremadu, daughter of Ike Ekweremadu has taken to social media to beg Nigerians for help.

Sonia via her Instagram page begged Nigerians to donate kidney to help her survive.

Recall that her father in the process of trying to get a kidney for her, got arrested and is still in prison in the United Kingdom.

She appealed to Nigerians not to abandon her.

She wrote;

I, Sonia Ekweremadu, hereby appeal to the general public to come to my aid and save my life.

I am 25 years old and a graduate of Media and Communications, University of Coventry. I dropped out of my post-graduate studies at the University of Newcastle in 2019 when I was diagnosed with rare kidney disease, FSGS Nephrotic Syndrome. My family has battled to save my life and has taken me to various hospitals, but the illness persisted and kept degenerating. I am alive today by the special grace of God. I am presently in London, UK, receiving 5 Hours of dialysis 3-4 times a week. This is at the expense of my family as I am not qualified for NHS due to my immigration status.

The last 3 years have been extremely challenging. The charges being faced by my parents in London presently, are directly connected to my illness and have complicated matter for me and my family. I do not intend to delve into details of this unfortunate development as the matter is still in Court. I am however optimistic that the truth will prevail and it will end in praise to God.

In the circumstance above, I am appealing to anybody whom it may please to assist me willingly with a kidney donation in the name of God.

This appeal would have been utterly unnecessary as every member of my family is eager to donate their kidney to me, knowing that I would do the same for any of them. Regrettably, comprehensive medical examination showed that my case of nephrotic syndrome is a genetic illness and the doctors advised against donation from any of my family members, as it would likely reoccur. In the time that my father has been incarcerated, he has been diagnosed with acute kidney damage.

Anybody that is moved by this appeal and wishes to donate his or her kidney to me may send an email to helpsonialive@gmailDOTcom and include his or her name, phone number, email address and place of residence.

Please, note that under the laws of England and Wales, organ donation must be purely driven by compassion and therefore no reward is involved.

Finally, I have decided to commit and dedicate myself to helping people with the challenges of kidney disease, upon my full recovery.

Thank you and God bless you.

Ondo, Ekiti Doctors Reject FG's New Allowance Policy, Threaten Strike

The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, NAGGMDP, has urged the Federal Government to extend the retirement age of medical practitioners to 70 years to enable them impact more knowledge on upcoming doctors.

The body of doctors made the call, yesterday, in a communique issued at the end of its National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

NAGGMDP, which also urged the Federal Government to prioritise the health sector, noted that the extension of the retirement age of medical practitioners was to allow them impact more knowledge in upcoming doctors.

According to the communique jointly signed by National President, Dr Dokun Noel, and General Secretary, Dr Ekundare Folu, Nigeria is facing an acute shortage of doctors because many have emigrated to Europe, North America and the Middle East.

It added: “The NEC resolved that the government should immediately begin to consider the review of the retirement age of doctors to 70 years to retain experienced hands and also to cover for the acute shortage of doctors being witnessed currently.

“The NEC also resolved that the government, especially state governors and local government authorities should, as a matter of urgency, commence recruitment of doctors and make all necessary efforts to employ doctors to fill the spaces opened up by the brain drain/emigration of doctors and other health care workers.

‘’This is very necessary because the state and local govt healthcare systems are most hit and this sector caters for the bulk of the population in the country.”

The communique stressed the need for the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to give the health sector top priority to reduce brain drain.

It read: “The NEC resolved that the Federal and State Government should provide affordable healthcare for Nigerians while making special considerations for children, the vulnerable and the aged, through a well funded National health insurance scheme which would reduce out of pocket payments.

“The NEC called on the relevant organs of Government to see urgent needs to increase the budgetary allocation to healthcare to be in line with WHO proposals/standards.”

Insecurity Under Your Watch Disturbing, Fulani Professionals Tell Buhari

President Buhari Congratulates Emir Of Zazzau-Suleja, Awwal Ibrahim At 81

Some concerned Fulanis have raised the alarm over growing insecurity across the country, saying the situation was capable of undermining the sovereignty of the Nigerian State, if not halted immediately.

The patriotic Nigerians said the Northern region of the country is the worst hit, as facts on the ground show that the zone is contending with terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other violent tendencies.

The group, which operates under the aegis of the Coalition of Fulbe Professionals in Africa (COFPIA), lamented the fact that farmers in most parts of the North are not able to access their farms, for fear of being killed.

In a statement signed, Saturday, by Prof. Mohammed Gidadol (National President) and Hajiya Mairo Modibo (National Secretary), COFPIA disclosed that, even in some areas where farmers are allowed to go to the field, they are made to pay some levies, by terrorist elements, who have constituted themselves into local authorities.

“We are yet to reconcile ourselves to the state of insecurity in the country, particularly the North, where bandits and terrorists have literally taken over the forests, from where they launch vicious attacks on our innocent people, leaving behind death and destruction.

“Without mincing words, we make bold to say that the insecurity assailing our dear nation, Nigeria, has reached a boiling point deserving desperate and urgent attention not promises.

“The country, especially our region, is under siege, hence the urgent need for our dear President, Muhammadu Buhari, to act with the speed of light, to remedy the situation before the country is led to the precipice.

As a way out of the situation, the Fulani group has called for the immediate overhauling of the national security architecture, to guarantee security, peace and public safety.

The statement reads in full: “We write to condemn the deplorable state of insecurity in Nigeria, especially the North.

“This is the worst period in Nigeria’s history; particularly in terms of our security and our dear President must do something fast to reverse the tide.

“We have never had insecurity this bad in the country, to the extent that every Fulani man is now seen as an endangered specie, and can be attacked anytime just because of the sin of some deviants among them.

“We now live in fear, even among our brothers in the North, and we state categorically that this is practically unacceptable.

“We don’t know who is advising Mr president on security but we want to categorically state that the security situation is getting worst by the day, and if nothing is done urgently concerning the people in charge of security and the entire security architecture they may be civil unrest between the Hausas and Fulani in the North.

“The level of mutual distrust between our people who are brothers is now unimaginable. Mr president must also remember that he rose up to power on three pillars which is security, anti-corruption and Agriculture, but to be very frank to our father and uncle President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerians have lost confidence in his administration and everything he stands for, and the only remedy available to him to regain his integrity before exiting office, is to restructure the entire security architecture so that concerted efforts can be made to secure our nation and restore hope to the citizens.

“As a precondition, Mr President, should sack the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Mohammed Babagana Monguno (retd), and all the service chiefs, and replace them with more competent and committed people.

“Above all, there is the urgent need to ensure that the entire defence and security Budget, from 2015 till date, undergo comprehensive probe by anti-graft agencies”. Some significant progress can be made before 29 May 2023.

If I Give You My Private Money To Vote For Me, I Am Going To Collect It Back – Peter Obi

2023: It's A Disappointment If We Fail With Labour’s Support, Says Peter Obi
Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has said that he would never buy votes during the 2023 presidential election.

He said this while speaking on the influence of vote buying during a recent meeting with Nigerians in Diaspora. According to Peter Obi, he can only spend his money by using it to travel around. He said that if he spends his money to buy votes, he would eventually take it back if he wins and that’s why he said that people should show him where money was missing when he was the governor of Anambra State.

What am I going to give you? If I give you my private money I’m going to collect it back.

If I didn’t give you my money, when I go there, I was the governor of Anambra State for eight years and I’ve challenged everybody to show me where their money is missing but don’t think I would come and give you my hard-earned money, it’s not true, that’s what I’ve been using to run around.”

2023: It’s Nobody’s Turn, Peter Obi Replies Tinubu

Peter Obi’s Not After Foreign Funds - Labour Party
Peter Obi

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi, has said next year’s Presidential election is not based on ethnicity or religion, hence it is nobody’s turn.

Speaking at the Labour Party Leadership Retreat in Abuja on Monday, Mr. Obi promised to sign a performance agreement with the Nigerian Labour Congress to make sure that ideas generated at the retreat are followed to the latter.

Apparently referring to the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obi insisted that since there was no place where Christians or Muslims buy things cheaper, or Yoruba or Hausa’s have free light than others in the country, then the coming election is about character and competence and not any body’s turn.

The Labour party standard bearer said, “We will do this retreat now, after the election we will do another one, election next year will not be based on ethnicity, we have had it before, it would not be on religion.

“There is no place that Christians buy things cheaper, there is no place that Muslims buy things cheaper. It will not be by my turn, it is nobody’s turn. It must not be by connection. Election next year must be based on character and trust, it must be based on competence.”

The Presidential candidate also stated that corruption is pervasive in Nigeria because leaders are involved, “If a leader is not stealing, and the family around him are not stealing we will reduce corruption by 70 percent. I was Governor for eight years, there is nowhere money is missing.

“I am in this retreat to listen, let us put it in writing when we succeed, you must be around to say this is what we have agreed on. Even if we don’t achieve 100 percent, we must have made sacrifices.”

In his welcome address, Barrister Julius Abure, National Chairman Labour Party said Nigeria now a golden opportunity to redefine how politics should be played, saying that the present challenges were due to failure of leadership.

“Our leaders does not have what it takes to drive development. This is what has been lacking, no one is safe, insecurity has taken over something needs to be done and urgently and I am happy Nigerians are ready for the real change not like the APC change in 2015.”

He said he was happy that Nigerians are joining the Labour Party on a daily basis and urged NLC, Trade Union Congress and all Labour affiliates to join hands, adding this is an opportunity that should not be allowed to waste.

Comrade Ayuba Wabba, President Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), on his part said Nigerians cannot continue to be a consumer nation, “we need to go back to production, which will tackle unemployment. Corruption is an organized crime against the Nigerian public.”

He said protest and strike alone cannot fix Nigeria and called on workers to be ready to work to bring about good leadership in the country instead of strike and protest.

Wabba said leadership is about energy and intellectual capacity and explained that those saying Labour Party do not have structure will be surprised, adding that Labour is ready to activate its structures in the 774 local government areas of the country.

Tompolo’s Pipeline Contract May Cause War In Niger Delta – Rita Lori
Chief Rita Lori

Activist, Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor has condemned the award of pipeline protection to Government Ekpemupolo, a.k.a. Tompolo.

There is controversy over the federal government job allotted to the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) leader.

After years of hardline, the Buhari administration engaged Tompolo, arguably Nigeria’s strongest militant. He got the same deal during the Jonathan presidency.

The government opened talks with him as illegal bunkering saw the country lose over 500,000 barrels per day.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Monday, Rita Lori declared that it was wrong to hand over the guard of the pipeline to an individual.

The Igba of Warri Kingdom said it was the duty of the national government to take control of happenings in the oil-rich South-South region.

She accused the authorities of treating a matter involving the nation’s biggest earner of foreign exchange with levity.

The prominent Itsekiri leader wondered why the government could not protect oil facilities to avoid theft and other problems.

“Despite the warning, they went ahead to award the contract to Tompolo. This has resulted in disagreement.

“There has been a parade of guns in a show of force. The region may be enveloped by war any moment from now,” she said.

Lori, who maintained the contract must be revoked for peace to reign, also decried the state of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The activist said politicians use the agency “to cart away the booty of the country.. because that is where there is money.”

She noted that people, including governors, have discarded the NDDC Act and placed their relatives on the board.

Lori reminded Nigerians that the report of a forensic audit commissioned by the presidency has not been made public since.

She said, “There is anarchy in the Niger Delta and I feel that the world should know about it.

“I earlier said that the insecurity Nigerians should worry about is not the type going on in the North, but that of the Niger Delta.

“What we have today will be a child’s play if the insecurity fully manifests itself. If it has not, it will soon do so in another few months.”

Lori further complained about the proliferation and display of high calibre arms and ammunition without fear.

“The federal government is not doing anything about it; rather they aid and abate the problem of bloodshed,” she added.
