NNPP Dissolves Osun State Executive Council, Gives Reasons

Kano: Tribunal Judgement Laughable – NNPP

The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party has dissolved the Osun State Executive Council.

The dissolution was contained in a letter dated September 11, 2022, and signed by the National Secretary, Dipo Olayoku.

The News Agency of Nigeria obtained a copy of the letter on Tuesday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The SEC was dissolved following a vote of no confidence passed on the Chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, and the mass resignation of its members.

The NWC appointed a six-man caretaker committee in place of the dissolved executive council.

The committee will be in charge for three months under the chairmanship of Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulateef.

The letter read in parts: “The NWC, after reviewing the situation of things with NNPP in Osun and after due consultation with stakeholders, has approved the dissolution of the state executive council.

“The headquarters has observed that the Osun State executive council has been depleted due to the resignation of its members.

“The remaining executive members have lost confidence in the ability of the chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, to provide the needed leadership for any good showing at the 2023 general elections.

“This is evident in the vote-of-no-confidence passed on the erstwhile chairman by members of the executive council.

“The NWC is using this medium to call on the chairman of the caretaker committee and other members to show leadership qualities and use this opportunity to heal old wounds.

“They should bring every member and the NPPP family together for the task ahead.

“The NWC is appealing to all members in Osun to remain calm and await further directives from the national headquarters.”

When contacted, the caretaker chairman told NAN that he would use his three months tenure to bring all aggrieved members together ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Abdulateef said members of the caretaker committee would also use their tenure to x-ray why NNPP was lagging behind in Osun State and work for the victory of the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso.

He said: “We must be united and be purposeful.

“All of us must come on board to know that there is something ahead of us to be done and do it with fairness for the success of our party.”

NNPP members unanimously passed a vote-of-no-confidence on Dr. Odeyemi at a meeting in Osogbo on August 15 and removed him as chairman over alleged financial misappropriation.

Why Atiku Picked Okowa Over Wike As Running Mate – PDP Chairman, Sen. Ayu

We’ve Not Given Up On Reconciliation Between Atiku, Wike – PDP

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Iyorcha Ayu, has revealed the reasons why the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, picked the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, over his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, as running mate.

Ayu offered the explanation on Tuesday during the Northern Christian Youth Assembly Summit in Abuja.

He said Abubakar picked Okowa above Wike because of humility and better performance in government.

He said: “We looked around and we thought we have to give not just a vice president that will assist him (Atiku), but we did our homework to select a man who is highly educated, very humble, and who has done very well as a governor in his home state.

“Okowa is the most qualified running mate.

“It is on his own personal merit that he was selected by the party as the vice presidential candidate to Atiku Abubakar.

“I think Nigeria will be very lucky to have two such people who are committed to the development, who are detribalized, who believe in uniting this country.”

UCL: I’m Delighted Lewandowski Didn’t Score Against Bayern Munich — Bayern Munich Manager

Bayern Munich manager, Julian Nagelsmann has expressed delight that Robert Lewandowski failed to score against the Bavarians at the Allianz Arena.

Goals from Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane were enough for the Bundesliga champions to beat Barca in the Champions League group fixture on Tuesday.

Speaking after the game, Nagelsmann stated that he’s happy the Polish striker did not score against Bayern Munich.

“Barca had the better chances in the first half. We had to rely on [keeper] Manuel [Neuer].

“After the break, we were more aggressive. We quickly scored two goals. We basically won because of higher efficiency.

“From our side, I am also happy Lewandowski did not score against us tonight,” Nagelsmann said.

Kabiru Gayari, the head of the civil service in Zamfara, announced that the state government would soon introduce an N30,000 minimum wage for workers.

Gayari spoke on Tuesday in Gusau at the 4th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Zamfara Chapter.

The Head of Service announced that the ongoing dispute between the government and labor unions over the national minimum wage would soon be resolved. He was represented by Alhaji Yusuf Bakura, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Civil Service.

Gayari, therefore, appealed to the unions to remain calm as work on the minimum template had reached 70 percent.

For his part, the chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Mr. Sani Halliru, represented by the acting state Secretary, Mr. Abubakar Gusau, called on workers to support the unions in their effort to ensure that the welfare of workers became the priority of the government.

He sought their support in ensuring the implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage.

Gusau challenged the unions on the need to elect good leaders who will represent and protect their rights.

Mr. Sa’idu Mudi Chairman; Bashir Maradun, Vice Chairman I; Mustapha Gusau, Vice Chairman II, Salisu Giwa, Treasurer and Mubarak Marafa internal Auditor were returned unopposed.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sabiu Abdullahi, Shafa Labbo, Rukayya Abdullahi, and Iliya Muhammad emerged as the Ex-Officio of the ASCSN.

The newly elected chairman of the union in an acceptance speech appealed to the state government to look into workers’ demands.

Mudi, however, assured collaborate with other labour unions to fight for the workers’ rights.

Tinubu Healthy, Works For 20 Hours Daily, APC Replies Obi

2023: Tinubu Campaign Group Ask INEC To Disqualify Peter Obi Over Diaspora Fund Raising

The Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday says contrary to speculations, its presidential flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is hale and hearty.

The camp of the former Lagos State governor described the national leader of the APC as a Trojan horse, who works assiduously for 20 hours each day.

The clarification is coming against the backdrop of the allegation by Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, that Tinubu is not fit to rule the country.

The former governor of Anambra State also subtly knocked the APC presidential candidate at Monday’s retreat organised by LP in Abuja when he charged Nigerians to elect a leader they trust against one who sees the presidency as his turn to rule.

He said, “Next year’s elections will not be based on ethnicity. It will not be by turn, it is nobody’s turn. It must not be by connection. The election next year must be based on character and trust; it must be based on competence.”

Reacting in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, Director of Media and Publicity for APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, described Obi as an ‘incurable liar.’

This comes as all former aspirants of the All Progressives Congress under the aegis of APC360, have called on the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to urgently set in motion measures to halt the gale of defection that has hit the party in recent weeks, saying “it is dangerous.”

Meanwhile, two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe and Ebikitin Diongoli have led their supporters back to the ruling People’s Democratic Party in the state.

Also, the South-South Zonal Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Blessing Agbomhere, has warned supporters and leaders of the ruling party to desist from hobnobbing with Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2023 elections.

Agbomhere gave the warning in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

Lambasting Obi, a livid Onanuga urged Nigerians to ask if the Labour Party presidential candidate has bagged a medical certificate for him to declare Tinubu as unwell for the presidency.

The statement partly read, “We want to make it crystal clear to all the traducers of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate that Asiwaju Tinubu is not ill. He is hale and hearty. A man, who works for 20 hours a day, meeting people and strategizing about finding solutions to Nigeria’s problems, cannot be said to be ill. We make bold to say that our candidate is as fit as the fiddle.

“We find these statements unbecoming of a man who nurses the ambition to be Nigeria’s next President. Since he is not Asiwaju’s doctor and is not privy to his medical record, Obi has again disgracefully elevated what has for long been a beer parlour gossip and social media lie being propagated by his IPOB supporters. Obi in his characteristic manner is amplifying falsehood, which should not have a place in a decent political campaign.

“We believe that political leaders should be guided in their utterances and be sticklers for the truth, but Obi has thrown all caution to the wind, pronouncing on issues he has no moral and professional competence to make a judgment call on.”

I Will Pursue Warm Handshake Policy For Private Sector — Atiku Abubakar

Atiku Abubakar

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has said that his plan for the economy, if elected, is to pursue a “warm handshake policy for the private sector”, noting that Nigeria is currently being dressed in borrowed robes.

Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday at the Private Sector Economic Forum for the 2023 Presidential Election organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Atiku stated: “Nigeria is being dressed in borrowed robes; Nigeria is broke and has consistently run-on budget deficits since 2015. These budget deficits are often above the 3% threshold permissible under the Fiscal Responsibility Law and more if you add CBN and AMCON debt in ways and means. The country is breaching one of the applicable debt-sustainability thresholds by spending more on debt servicing than the country’s revenue.

“No one should downplay the enormity of the tasks ahead. Indeed, I cannot think of a more daunting challenge than restoring confidence in the future of Nigeria as a dynamic economy and stable democracy.

“I will not come unprepared. It is not in my character as a businessman or as a public officer to be caught off guard. My policy document contains the right policies that will be timely delivered.”

In his welcome address, LCCI President, Dr. Michael Olawale-Cole, noted that the Chamber is non-partisan but interested in the economic agenda of the candidates and their plans to make a better Nigeria in the next dispensation.

He stated: “The chamber is aware of the overshadowing effect of politics over economics in managing the Nigerian economy and would therefore wish to contribute to the setting of a new economic order that can take our economy from the doldrums.

“Beyond economic management, we understand that countries rise or fall through leadership and governance. Nigerians have another opportunity to decide who leads them in the next four years from 2023-2027.”
