Abia State Governorship candidate of Action Peoples Party (APP) for the 2023 gubernatorial election, Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu has said he will construct two new cities if elected governor next year, a development that will decongest Umuahia the capital city and Aba.

In his verification visit to Ikwuano L.G.A on Wednesday, Chief Kalu said his party is coming to change the face of Abia, adding that he has a program to build two new cities to ease the pressure on Umuahia and Aba, the two already existing cities in the state.

APP is full of young men and women that are coming to change the face of Abia. Part of our program is to build two cities with a blueprint that will meet the 21st-century economic and infrastructural needs of Abians.”

According to the former Chief of Staff of the Abia state government, Umuahia, the state capital of Abia, now looks like a glorified village and needs to be revamped to a befitting status as the capital.

On his part, the L.G.A. Chairman of APP in Ikwuano, Mr. Amaechi Kanu, said while the party may be mistaken for a small party, it can be likened to a small axe that will cut down the big trees, which are the big parties.

Similarly, Hon. Wisdom Lan, APP’s candidate for the Ikwuano State Constituency, expressed his confidence that Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu is the right candidate to win the electoral battle for APP in 2023.

The highlight of the verification was the recitation of APP’s slogan by a three-year-old girl, which drew a lot of admiration from the audience, including Chief Kalu, who promised to reward her mother with a councillorship position for teaching her daughter the slogan.

Earlier, the Abia state APP’s governorship candidate and his entourage paid a courtesy visit to the palace of HRH Eze Uwaga, the Efuma II of Agbaluzo community in Ikwuano L.G.A

The National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Isaac Kekemeke, said the party’s presidential candidate, Sen. Bola Tinubu, would win over 80 per cent of votes in the region during 2023 elections.

Mr Olaniyi Adegbola, Ondo State Coordinator of ‘The Asiwaju Group (TAG)’, a support group for the APC flagbearer, said in a statement that Kekemeke gave the assurance when executives of the group visited him in Akure on Wednesday.

The APC South-West leader, who said that President Muhammadu Buhari had always won over 70 per cent of votes cast in his North-West zone in previous elections, vowed, ”Tinubu would do better in the South-West in next year’s presidential poll.

“Buhari always had 70 per cent of his region’s votes in every election. We will win 80 per cent for Asiwaju in the South-West region in 2023.”

He assured that the APC in South-West would deliver impressively and urged the various support groups to work assiduously to ensure Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking during the visit, the TAG state coordinator said that Tinubu remained a common unifying factor which “is key to APC victory in the state.

“Asiwaju is a good product, strong enough to sell itself and the party,” Adegbola said.

He assured that TAG would come up with youth-friendly programmes to reach out to students and other young people to prevent them from going to the opposition.

”We will continue to spread the gospel of a Tinubu presidency devoid of ethno-religious proclivities come 2023.

Tinubu Says He’s Not Worried By NOI Poll Which Puts Peter Obi Ahead Of Him

The All Progressives Congress APC Presidential Campaign Council has said the flag bearer of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is unperturbed by NOI polls.

The APC Presidential Campaign Council in a statement by its Director, Media and Publicity, Mr Bayo Onanuga described the NOI polls as dubious, unrealistic and inconsistent.

Onanuga noted that the NOI Polls made wild and incredible permutations on the presidential elections.

According to the council, the APC is putting in place structures that will make its margin of victory so wide that it will be difficult for the opposition to contest it at the tribunal.

“Our party is putting every necessary machinery in motion to win the federal elections with a margin that will be too wide to contest.

“Our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu recorded the highest votes of a senator across the country under the Social Democratic Party in July 1992. He will do it on nationwide scale on February 25, 2023”, the council boasted.

The poll results showed a significant lead for Mr Obi with 21% of voters proposing to vote for him if the presidential election were to be conducted today; and 13% each proposing to vote for APC’s Tinubu and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP who were both tied in second place.

Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP was a distant fourth with 3% of voters proposing to vote for him, according to a statement by ANAP Foundation which announced the results of the poll.

“We are unperturbed by these dubious and unreliable statistics because our research shows that NOI Polls have been off the mark at critical election periods in recent times”, the council stated. لعبة سباق خيول حقيقية

It noted for example that preparatory to the March 2015 presidential elections, NOI published in October 2014 the results of a “Viability Poll” which used the concepts of Familiarity and Net Favourability Position to survey. سباق الخيل

“In the results, NOI claimed that President Goodluck Jonathan has the best overall familiarity rating at 99% and Net Favourability Probability of ±25.

“By contrast, NOI dismissed the then All Progressives Congress candidate, Muhammadu Buhari as a ‘borderline candidate’ who needed ‘huge public relations’ to shore up his performance.

“But when the Nigerian people went to the polls, who won? The APC candidate and now President, Muhammadu Buhari.

“This is not the only instance when the NOI has turned its political bias in an election period to fraudulent statistics”, the council stated.

The council recalled that towards the 2019 presidential elections, and knowing that President Buhari was going for re-election for a second term in office, “the NOI pollsters embarked on another abracadabra”.

“In June 2017, they issued the results of another poll, that Nigerians prefer a middle-aged president claiming that this poll was inspired by the election of Macron as the president of France and the campaign of the Not Too Young To Run.

“According to the predictable bias, NOI claimed that 64% said they would prefer to vote for a presidential candidate between the ages of 40 and 50 years and 15% preferred candidates between 51 and 60. In short, for a presidential candidate in his 70s running for re-election, NOI results meant certain defeat. But when the Nigerian people went to the polls on February 23, 2019, the man the NOI polls had tried to bully with statistics out of the race won again.

“It is significant that at the time NOI was generating the unrealistic figures to boost the ego of President Jonathan, a more serious and independent team of pollsters- Neo-Telligence based in the United Kingdom used geo-demographics and public sentiment analysis to forecast the emergence of President Buhari.

“By contrast, their empirical analysis showed that two years before the 2015 presidential elections, Goodluck Jonathan’s public approval rating on corruption, insecurity and the economy had nosedived across most of the battleground states”, it added.

“The council added that its objective profiling of NOI Polls as an anti-APC research organization is grounded on the aforesaid facts and that is why “we believe this present report is, in the language of Nigerians, wuruwuru to the answer”.

It noted that the NOI has chosen the preferred candidate “and has decided to use fake, dubious statistics to package him to the Nigerian voters”.

“We know as a matter of fact, the owners of NOI and where their political interest lies and wish to advise NOI to stop polluting the political system with irresponsible, unscientific and biased polling so that we don’t expose the puppeteers pulling its strings”, the council added.

I Have The Capacity To Move Nigerian Football Higher As NFF President – Musa Gusau

Ahead of the September 30 Nigeria Football Federation Elective Congress in Benin City, a top contender for the Presidency to be vacated by Amaju Pinnick, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has boasted that he has the capacity and vision to take the game to higher levels.

Gusau addressed a large audience during a dinner at the posh Wells Carlton Hotel in Abuja, to kick start his campaign for election to become the next NFF President. The chairman of Zamfara Football Association who also doubles as the Chairman of chairman reiterated that he was well equipped to bring stability and progress to Nigerian football.

“My vision is a stable and successful Nigeria football Federation focused on the development of the game at grassroots, leagues, and national teams levels. The theme is ‘Letting football win’

“I have what it takes to provide the required leadership to promote, control, and regulate association football in the country in an open, transparent and sustainable manner. I have the capacity to execute all my lofty plans for the development of football in the country,” Gusau said.

“My plans are to ensure that Super Eagles return to top 15 from their present 31st rank in world football, and take the Super Falcons from their current 46th position to top 20 in the world. It is doable because I have understudied how the various leading national federations were able to achieve success with their teams

“Repositioning our leagues and ensuring that we are amongst the top 30 from the present 62 in the world league ranking. Provide appropriate fund support to State football associations and other critical stakeholders for grassroots football development.”

Asked how he would tackle the debt burden of the NFF running to about N2 billion, Gusau stated that being an accountant of close to 26 years, he would be very prudent in the NFF’a spending and embarking on an aggressive marketing and sponsorship drive to sustain the NFF beyond the FG, FIFA and CAF grants

“Sponsorship forms a very important part of every Football Federation – income streams. Top brands pay money to associate with national teams by way of kit sponsorship, stadium naming rights, shirt sponsorship, sleeve sponsorships, and if you elect us, we will toe the line of the English and other successful FA’s” Gusau assured.

Court Compels INEC To Publish Akpabio’s Name As APC Senatorial Candidate
Godswill Akpabio

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja says the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, erred by excluding the name of former Akwa Ibom governor, Godswill Akpabio, from the list of senatorial candidates.

To this end, the court has ordered the commission to publish the name of Akpabio as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Akwa Ibom North/West senatorial election.

Recall that the electoral body had omitted the names of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and Godswill Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta affairs from its published lists, saying they did not participate in the primary elections.

Despite efforts by the ruling party to hand the tickets to Lawan and Akpabio, INEC, on July 9, insisted that Bashir Machina and Udom Ekpoudom remain the APC senatorial candidates for the districts.

However, Justice Emeka Nwite, in a judgment on Thursday, declared INEC’s position illegal.

According to the Judge, INEC had no reason to reject Akpabio since his name was sent to it by the APC as its candidate.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended Azman Air over the carrier’s inability to renew its Air Operators Certificate (AOC).

It was also learnt that the regulatory body had given it much time to renew the AOC, but failed despite issuing the airline another 30 days ultimatum to meet the requirements.

A source in the airline however said the required money had been paid and the issue maybe resolved today.

The source said the airline would provide details later in the day.

The suspension comes a few weeks after the NCAA threatened to withdraw airlines’ licenses over indebtedness to the regulatory agency.

It was learnt that the NCAA had given the airline notice to pay the required fees to renew its licenses.

According to the NCAA, airlines are owing N42bn and $7.8million.

A source in the NCAA said the authority wielded the big stick when the airline failed to meet up with the financial requirement for the renewal of its licenses.

It was learnt that the airline had told some of its workers that it was suspending flights today due to “operational reasons.”

A spokesperson with the airline, Mr. Nura Aliyu, promised to provide details of the issue later in the day, even as he said everything is being done to address the issue.

Deepen Investigation Into Banditry, Group Tells Security Agencies

Bandits Abduct Spare Parts Dealer In Sokoto

The National Inter-Faith Movement on Thursday urged security agencies to deepen their investigations into the endless banditry activities in the North West of Nigeria.

In a statement issued by Rev. Amos Adah and made available to DAILY POST in Abuja on Thursday, he expressed shock at revelations by Sheikh Ahmad Gumi’s media consultant, Tukur Mamu, who has been arrested and detained.

The investigation, the group said, would further unravel accomplices in the endless banditry activities in the Northwest.

They slammed Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for making controversial statements due to the arrest of his aide, while they urged security agents to compel Gumi to explain his relationship with the bandits.

Mamu, a newspaper publisher, negotiated the release of some of the hostages in the March 2022 train abduction in Kaduna, where large sums of money exchanged hands.

Mamu, arrested at Cairo International Airport on his way to Saudi Arabia for Lesser Hajj, was deported back and then picked up by the Department of States Services at the Kano International Airport.

He is currently in court over alleged links to terrorism.

Commending the DSS for the arrest, the National Inter-Faith Movement said relative peace has returned to the North-West, especially the troubled Abuja-Kaduna expressway, since Mamu was nabbed.

According to Adah, the Kaduna-based cleric is Mamu’s boss, noting that the journalist may have acted based on his instructions.

The Reverend said Gumi must explain to Nigerians his compassion for terrorists and state categorically how he has benefitted from insecurity.

Rev Adah said the controversial cleric’s provocative position after Mamu’s arrest again proved that he is a person of interest.

“We have followed with keen interest the investigation and arrest of Mamu by the DSS. We must say that this proves that our security agencies are working without many words. The DSS also acted timely to take Mamu to court,” Adah said.

“This is a smart move in the right direction. Any individual or group who has decided to unleash anguish on fellow humans must be made to pay. On behalf of other Christian leaders in Kaduna and the entire northwest who have suffered from bandits, we say thank you to the intelligence community.

“However, they must not rest on their oars. If there is evidence to tie down Mamu, certainly there will be more linked to his master, Gumi. Thus we charge our gallant officers to take the next brave step to arrest and prosecute Gumi.

“Gumi has never hidden his love for bandits, so much that he once called for amnesty. These are people who killed and maimed thousands of unarmed civilians; women, and children, including our family members.

“Consequently, we demand the immediate arrest and interrogation of Gumi who, by now, should be a person of interest to all intelligence and law enforcement agencies. He must tell Nigerians all he knows about the attack on the train which led to the death and kidnap of countless citizens from whom large sums were collected as ransom.

“Gumi is now weaponising falsehood to incite Islamic fanatics against the Nigerian state through his sermons in mosques. To divert the attention of the security agencies, he already constituted himself in a court of law to exonerate his mentee. The security agents must act fast”.
