Since 2005, at least 152 buildings have collapsed in Lagos, according to a South African university researcher investigating construction disasters.

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for improved construction standards, describing the frequent building collapses as “increasingly embarrassing”. لعبت روليت

The people of Amaewu, Umueze, Amamba Uzuakoli in Bende local government of Abia State now live in panic following a gully erosion site which has defied all solutions after several millions of Naira was expended in tackling it.

While stating that more buildings in the community are under the threat of the erosion, Hon. Ndubuisi hinted that the community has commenced fresh palliative work following advise by NEWMAP team to mitigate the flood impact.

NEWMAP team advised that the community should do drainage down to the river so that more buildings will not be threatened but I don’t know if the money available to the community now can do that.

“What we want to do now is to use a kind of sandbags to slow down the speed of the flood so that the devastation will reduce, which the engineers told us will reduce the devastation,” he said.

On interventions from lawmakers representing the people at the National Assembly, Hon. Ndubuisi disclosed that the member representing Bende Federal Constituency, Rep. Benjamin Kalu and the Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, are aware of the challenges of the people, adding “only the state government has intervened through NEWMAP”.

He also stated that efforts are ongoing to get other agencies of government for their intervention.

However when contacted, the senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, said that though their job at the red chamber is purely legislative, that he will send people to go and look at the site to enable him see how he can talk to federal authorities to come to the aide of the community.

Abia: It's Unfortunate You Play Politics With My Medical Trip, Prof. Ibe Blasts Ikonne

The governorship candidate of APGA in Abia State, Prof. Gregory Ibe has taken a swipe at his opponent, the PDP’s Prof. Uche Ikonne, accusing of playing politics with his medical trip abroad.

Prof. Ibe had recently returned from an overseas medical trip after a surgery following a muscle tear on his leg and subsequently.

Prof Gregory Ibe’s Media Associates in a statement at the weekend accused Ikonne of playing politics with their principal’s health, accusing him of subtly deploying craft in casting aspersions and opprobrium on his health status.

“We consider as unfortunate the resort to the unacceptable politics of stigmatization rather than promotion of issues that will engender faster development of Abia State,” the statement read in part.

The statement clarifies, “That by the grace of God Prof Gregory Ibe is in perfect health both mentally and physically.

“That Prof Ibe is a weightlifter who in his youthful days represented the old Imo state in sports fiestas.

“That recently he accidentally suffered a muscle tear on his leg and subsequently had to undergo surgery abroad.

“That the surgical procedure was successful sequel upon which he obtained a comprehensive clean bill of health.

“That the medical trip didn’t however prevent him from still executing his several high demanding functions, including but not limited to, Managing Director cum CEO of Skill G Ltd, Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Sole Sponsor of Prof Gregory Ibe Free Medical and Surgical Outreach, through which 12,072 Abians were recently treated of all kinds of diseases, 5863 received eye glasses while 643 were booked for different kinds of surgery at the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, all under the sponsorship of Prof Ibe.”

The statement says Prof Ibe decided to expand his annual medical outreach to cover the 17 LGAs in 2022 because Dr Ikpeazu performed abysmally in the health sector leading to the woeful collapse of existing primary, secondary and tertiary medical infrastructure in the state, including Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), which Prof. Ikonne as Vice Chancellor contributed to substantially.

It added, “That it is uncomplimentary for Prof Ikonne to attempt to deride the health status of a man who personally elected to take away shame from the face of his PDP government by offering qualitative free medical intervention to the very people he is yet promising to take care of in future, which include his kinsmen from Agburuike clan, hometown of the PDP gubernatorial candidate.

“That in a bid to ridicule Prof Ibe the press statement misfired by inadvertently confirming the apparent inability of the present PDP government under Dr Ikpeazu to provide quality health services to Abians thereby compelling them to embark on medical tourism within and outside Nigeria.

“That Prof Ikonne should adhere to the biblical counsel of deploying efforts in first removing the log in his own eye before attempting to take away the speck from others.”

The zonal Chairman said the party developed a method of identifying and dealing with members who indulged in anti-Party activities.

He advised those contemplating such to desist forthwith or have themselves to blame.

Bawa urged APC members to work for the success of the party for the good of everyone.

“The visit is an assignment given to us by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC to go round the states in the North Central zone to interact and hear from the party members.

“This is necessary because we must work in unison and all hands must be on deck to ensure that APC emerges victorious in the 2023 general elections.

“Plateau is the home for APC, taking into consideration the appointment of Gov. Simon Lalong as the Director General of Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organization.

“We are ready to support him and make sure that the North Central zone produces a large chunk of votes for APC in 2023.

“Therefore, we have come to hear from you as critical stakeholders of the party and bridge the gap of challenges within the party before the ban on the campaign is lifted,” he said.

Bature told his guests that APC in Plateau had already strategized and put all machinery in motion to deliver all its candidates, beginning with the presidency to members of the state assembly.

He charged party loyalists to discard the political shenanigans of the opposition parties and focus on an issues-based campaign to canvass for votes for the APC.
