All Criminals Invading Anambra Are Igbo — Soludo

Governor Charles Soludo

The Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has identified the unknown gunmen unleashing terror on the state as Igbo people, saying that the perpetrators are not invaders.

Soludo said suspects arrested so far “are 100 per cent Igbo,” but noted that the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had distanced itself from the crime.

The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor spoke on Saturday in an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

He, however, said his administration had put in place several measures to end the menace.

He said, “They are plain criminals. Some of these criminals also hide under the cloak of agitation but IPOB has repeatedly distanced itself from the criminals.

“They are kidnappers and plain criminals and they indulge in these because it is lucrative. Anambra is without a doubt the richest state in the South-East so this is the state where kidnapping has the highest value and so you will have their highest concentration here.

“But we are decimating them. They are not unknown gunmen, they are unknown to the extent that maybe are not caught immediately. But I can tell you we’ve been catching quite a lot of them and they already know that Anambra is not safe for them anymore.

“Let me be clear about it, 100 per cent of the people we have caught are Igbo. There is no hoax that somebody is invading from somewhere. It is 100 per cent Igbo on Igbo.

“Anambra receives its proportional share of an influx of Igbo from other South-East states and other parts of Nigeria. At the initial stage when we stage and the first set of people we caught are Igbo from the South-East states and not from Anambra. But as we went on, we discovered that a whole lot of the youth are joining them and we have not disguised among them, we are dealing with them equally.”

The governor stated that several operations are ongoing to address the insecurity, adding that Anambra residents now enjoy relative peace.

“The 8.5 million residents in Anambra can testify to you that insecurity has come down to the barest minimum. At least, in the last three months, cases of insecurity that seem to be daily affairs have come to a halt.

“We have decimated criminal gangs and their infrastructures and I don’t think they have the capacity again to come with the kind of ferocity they have in the past.

“Anambra has been relatively peaceful recently and we are pursuing a peaceful agenda. Compared to many other places in Nigeria, I will say if we have to have the statistics in the last three months, I think Anambra will compete favorably as one of the safest comparatively.

“We are not relenting. The operations are ongoing. Many communities are now at peace and having their new yam festival celebrations and these are things that weren’t possible in the past. Millions of events are also taking place simultaneously.”

The governor urged the residents to be patient while the government tackled the menace which he said took years to take root.

He added, “It took years for them to take root and build about 15 camps all over the eight local governments. Their activities won’t disappear in three months. But we are not relenting, we are putting in all our efforts and we are determined to make Anambra safe and secure for the residents and businesses.”

2023: Sack INEC Chairman, Yakubu Or Let Him Resign Now – Ohanaeze Tells Buhari

IPOB, ESN Not Threat To Nigeria’s Integrity – Ohanaeze Fires Back At Nigerian Army
Ohanaeze Ndigbo

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Igbo apex socio-political organization, on Sunday, said the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, is not prepared and competent to conduct free, fair, and credible elections in 2023.

Ohanaeze said evidence confirmed that Yakubu has endangered and compromised his office with the level of falsification allegations leveled against him by the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, which revealed that the INEC Chief Umpire is “biased, unpredictable and unreliable to independently give Nigerians a credible election.”

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary-General, said President Muhammadu Buhari should get rid of Yakubu amid the allegations made by CUPP.

Isiguzoro said the best option for the INEC boss is to “tow the path of honor and resign honorably or if he refused to quit honorably, he should be sacked and interrogated by the relevant agencies for the manipulation and distortions of Voters register in line with the laws of the land.”

A statement he signed said: “Nigerians have lost confidence in the electoral process under the watchful eye of Prof Mahmood Yakubu as his continued stay as INEC Chairman constitutes a security risk for the country and any elections supervised under him might not be acceptable and can trigger an avoidable constitutional disaster that might derail our hard preserved Democracy in 2023″ irrespective of the outcome of the Osun and Ekiti elections, there are so many sins of Prof Yakubu that should lead to his sack, the issues of sacking INEC officials in the database was obviously for the falsification allegations against him by CUPP and Prof Yakubu’s disobedience to the pronunciation of Supreme Court verdict on APGA leadership crisis.”

Isiguzoro maintained that the INEC chairman should clarify the allegations made by CUPP against him.

Prof Yakubu owes Nigerians an explanation for the falsification allegations by CUPP, or Nigerians are hoping for President Buhari to get rid of people like Yakubu before he destroys Buhari’s parting gifts for Nigerians, a promise of a free, fair, and credible election in 2023.

“This is the best way to get rid of bad eggs in INEC, and Prof Yakubu should be shown the door, or he will plug Nigeria into a constitutional dilemma and crisis.

“As Nigerians schedule to occupy INEC offices nationwide, there should be caution on the side of the Federal Government in handling the people so that there should be no crisis in the exercise.”

2023: Peter Obi Must Be ‘Interrogated’ – Festus Keyamo, Gives Reason

Keyamo mocks PDP, As Party Launches Campaign In Wike’s Absence
Festus Keyamo

Spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, says the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, should be interrogated on their plans for Nigeria.

The Lawyer explained that Obi and his party owe Nigerians an explanation over the latter’s promise to remove fuel subsidy once elected.

Keyamo, who made the claim in a statement issued on Saturday morning, disclosed that Obi’s declaration is coming after the leadership of the organized labour under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress, fought successive governments to keep it alive, saying it will bring untold hardship on the masses.

A livid Keyamo stated that he was convinced the former governor of Anambra State, did not discuss with the leadership of his party and the NLC to know their policies before making the statement to ‘excite his Obidient supporters.’

The statement read, “We note that the leadership of the organized labour under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday, September 13, 2022, at a national retreat of the Labour Party in Abuja, promised to mobilise its members across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria, to ensure victory for Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, in next year’s presidential election.

“We also note that in several interviews he granted in the last few months and weeks, Obi has vowed to totally remove subsidy on petrol if elected President. We also note NLC’s long-standing opposition to total removal of fuel subsidy. Other left-leaning supporters of the Labour Party were also present at the event to cheer Obi.

“Consequently, the following questions are urgently begging for answers by the leadership of the NLC. Before adopting Obi as its candidate, did the leadership of the NLC have a discussion with him on the issue of removal of fuel subsidy? If they did have that discussion, did Obi agree to back down on the issue of subsidy removal? Was that a basis for supporting him? If he did not back down on the issue, did the organised labour agree with him?”

The Minister of State for Labour, Productivity and Employment, noted that it would be reckless of the NLC to adopt a candidate without thoroughly interrogating him on his policies as they affect the Nigerian workers or the masses if no subsidy removal discussion held.

This is even as he admonished the leadership of the NLC to come clean by making a public statement unless it has changed its earlier stance and now fully supports the removal of fuel subsidy.

“If the excuse is that Obi has said that the money saved will be used in other critical areas of the economy, how is that different from what the Buhari government is also saying?

“These questions have become necessary because Nigerians deserve to know whether organised labour’s adopted party, which is the Labour Party, supports and promotes a policy that the leadership of labour opposes in another breath, when it is adopted by the government of the day. They cannot be blowing hot and cold.

“As our Council stands for issue-based campaigns, we call on all members of the 4th Estate of the Realm not to sweep this point under the carpet and to thoroughly interrogate the NLC and the Labour Party on the one hand; and the seemingly right-leaning supporters of the Labour Party and Mr. Peter Obi on the other, on this issue so that they will come clean before Nigerians,” he stated.
