Alvarez More Deadly As A Main Striker – Aguero

Former Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero, has urged Pep Guardiola to deploy Julian Alvarez as the main striker if he wants to see his best.

Recall that Alvarez joined City from River Plate this summer after agreeing with the move in January 2022.

He has managed a few game times since joining the team.

However, worried by his less game time, Aguero in an interview with TribalFootball stated that Alvarez is deadly if given freedom up front.

“He’s [Alvarez] seriously good. He plays with more freedom up front. I’d give him the freedom to roam if it was me, to get in there and cause trouble. I’d let him play free.

“I’ve always played in different positions across the forward line. I can play on the wings, nearer to the middle, or roam across all three as he did. I’ve done that all my life, moving across the forward positions in attack,” Aguero said.

In 2018, Álvarez was selected by the Argentina U20s to train against the senior team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In December, Álvarez was picked for the 2019 South American U-20 Championship. He received a call-up from Fernando Batista for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in May 2019.

Four matches and one goal, versus South Africa, arrived for him in Poland. Batista subsequently called Álvarez up for the U23s in the succeeding September, which preceded his selection for the 2020 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament; which Argentina won, with Álvarez scoring once (versus Venezuela) in seven matches.

Álvarez made his debut for the Argentina senior team on 3 June 2021, in a World Cup qualifier against Chile. He substituted Ángel Di María in the 62nd minute. On 29 March 2022, he scored his first international goal in a 1–1 draw against Ecuador.

We Owe Nigeria Patriotic Duty Of National Peace Accord – Atiku

Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said that the signing of the National Peace Accord is a patriotic duty that all politician and Nigerians alike, owe the country.

After signing the peace accord today, the former Vice President noted that this duty is one he is personally committed to.

“I also believe, personally, that our roles as democrats should be established on fidelity to fair and credible elections.

“We as a nation must be united in this belief,” the PDP flagbearer stated on his official Facebook Page.

He further urged the public and members of the PDP to conduct the campaigns peacefully and adhere to all extant laws on hate speech, despite any and every provocation.

Earlier, the PDP chieftain promised to restructure Nigeria and devolve power for the benefit of federating units.

“There is over-concentration in the Federal Government with multiple duplications of agencies leading to the creation of parallel bureaucracies,” Atiku said in a broadcast late Wednesday.

“The federating units shall benefit from the devolution of powers to increase their productive capacity for synergy and collaboration with each other.”

Atiku’s comment is the latest in the calls for Nigeria to be restructured along the lines of fiscal federalism and devolution of certain responsibilities in the exclusive legislative list solely controlled by the Federal Government.

Policing has so far topped the list of things proponents of restructuring want federating units to have control over, especially as Nigeria faces escalating security challenges nationwide.

And the former vice president said if elected next February, his administration will restructure the country.

“Nigerian people are excellent supporters and team players in a leadership environment that is open, friendly, and merit-based. We have the will and determination not only to promote the pursuit of happiness but also the actual attainment of happiness and the good life in an egalitarian society.

“These hallmarks of our civilization require that we restructure Nigeria in every facet of endeavour, open up the democratic space and mobilise our collective energy towards full-scale economic production,” Atiku stated.

Lagos Govt Appeals To Doctors To Suspend 3-Day Warning Strike
Gov. Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has suspended all activities of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in the state.

This was made known by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, on Thursday.

Giwa said the suspension became imperative following pockets of violence recorded in Ojo and Lagos Island on Wednesday.

He said a 35-Man Caretaker Committee has been constituted to take over activities of the union henceforth.

He said: “In a bid to fulfill one of the cardinal objectives of the T.H.E.M.E.S developmental agenda of the present administration in Lagos State as it relates to Security and Good Governance, under Traffic Management and Transportation, the Lagos State Government has suspended all activities of RTEAN with immediate effect.”

NSCDC Recovers 21,600 Litres Of Stolen Petrol In Lagos

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command has recovered 21,600 litres of Premium Motor Spirit otherwise known as petrol from suspected oil vandals in the Badagry area of the state.

According to the report, the anti-vandal and marine team of the Badagry division was on a surveillance patrol on Tuesday around 11 pm when it intercepted 720 kegs containing 30 litres of petrol each.

It was learnt that the interception happened around Yafin creek, as the suspected vandals were about to smuggle the fuel to the Benin Republic.

Sources said the vandals, who had operated in the area for a while, took to their heels after men of the NSCDC stormed their hideout on Tuesday.

The Badagry Divisional Officer, NSCDC, Chief Superintendent Akinyemi Ayodeji, said the value of the recovered petrol was N4m.

The Students Leaders came with a simple but strong message for the Governor namely, that as the build-up to the 2023 elections hots up, the Students Union Community in the State are solidly behind the Governor and his party, the PDP in Abia State, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka said in a statement.

The statement read further, “Governor Okezie Ikpeazu thanked the students for their sense of judgement and assured them that his administration will continue to mainstream issues surrounding the welfare of students in the State.

“He advised them not to make themselves available for politicians whose sole intentions are to use them as. Election Human Shields only to abandon them thereafter. He specifically advised students of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike against any plan to block the Umuahia Ikot Ekpene highway as part of the anti-ASUU strike demonstration.

“He also used the opportunity to appeal to the Federal Government and ASUU to consider the plight of the students and resolve the strike.

“According to the Student Leaders in their various speeches, the Governor has stood by them long before now and it is now time to repay the solidarity. In their words, they are not available for the use of emergency lovers of the welfare of students who appear on the scene just because of elections.”

Telecommunications Operators To Halt USSD Services For Banks Over ₦80 Billion Debt

Telecoms Union Suspends Planned Strike

Telecommunications operators in Nigeria have threatened to withdraw their service support to the banks as the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) debt hits N80 billion.

The Chairman, Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Gbenga Adebayo disclosed this in Lagos while speaking with media at the NITRA ICT Growth Conference 2.0 organized by the Nigeria Information Technology Reporters’ Association.

Adebayo stated that the matter has remained unresolved and the USSD debt has now increased to N80 Billion.

Recall, that the Nigerian Communications Commission last year said a meeting was convened to resolve the N42 billion USSD debt between the telecom operators and the banks in the country.

USSD is a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) protocol that is used to send text messages. This is similar to Short Message Service (SMS) but in the banking industry, allows users without a smartphone or data and internet connection to do mobile banking through the use of codes. USSD-based mobile banking can be used for fund transfers, checking account balances, and generating bank statements, among other uses

The huge debts came as a result of deductions made by way of commission by the banks during banking transactions but were never remitted to the telecom operators that own the infrastructure on which the transactions thrive.

The ALTON boss said that the telcos have continued to provide access to USSD infrastructure despite the debt owed by the banks, the major beneficiaries of the USSD code.

The ongoing crisis had therefore led to a new threat by the telcos, which planned to disconnect the banks from further having access to the service.

Adebayo also clarified that since the banks debit their customers for use of the USSD channels and also plan to increase the charges, the debt has to be settled.

The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has unveiled a security surveillance app during the passing out parade of Course 3 and 4 Amotekun Corps in Ondo State.

This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to Ondo State Governor

Akeredolu said millions of cellphones would be converted into state security cameras with the security monitoring app, which would aid citizens in reporting bad or poor services in government, institutions, or facilities.

It read, ‘‘It will be a tech-based neighbourhood watchman/whistleblower platform where citizens can report a crime in real-time to alert all security agencies for immediate action.

‘‘The Ondo State Security Network Agency, code-named Amotekun Corps, will be armed in accordance with the law since, in the absence of such, the training would be insufficient and the lives of great patriots will be in danger and the ground-breaking platform will make sure that Ondo State’s citizens and natives actually become their brothers’ guardians.’’

Akeredolu emphasized that his administration would continue to support the operational capability of all security agencies in the state in terms of providing equipment and the welfare of their staff.

He also said the passing out ceremony served as a reminder of the need to develop a plan of action and deal with the current security situation, which he claimed had been allowed to snowball into an existential crisis throughout Nigeria.

The Governor said, “The South Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun Corps, as a response, is now not just the first line of defence, but the ultimate bulwark in the protection of a way of life and civilization.

“On our part, we will continue to support the operational capacity of all security agencies in the state both in terms of equipment and the welfare of their personnel.”

57 Lawyers Shortlisted For SAN status

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), has elevated nine Professors of law, three lawyers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and 50 others to the prestigious rank of the Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANS.).

They were honoured with the rank by the Committee headed by the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola,

A statement released on Thursday evening by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hajo Sarki Bello indicated that the LPPC conferred the rank on the lawyers at its 154th plenary session held on September 29, 2022.

The law Professors are Kathleen Ebelechukwu Okafor, Muhammed Taofeeq Abdulrasaq, Amokaye Oludayo Gabriel, Ismail Adeniyi Olatunbosun, Abdullahi Sheu Zuru, Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, Theodore Bala Maiyaki, Olaide Abass Gbadamosi, and Chimezie Kingsley Okorie.

The three EFCC Lawyers elevated to membership of the Inner Bar are Wahab Kunle Shitu, Sylvanus Tahir, and Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo.

Other new senior advocates are a former, Head of Afe Babalola Chambers, Mr Bankole Joel Akomolafe, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, Johnson Tarigho Omophe, Lawrence Sunday Oko-Jaja, Christopher Agbomeirhe Sunday Oshomegie, and Sanusi Olugbenga Said.

Also elevated are Emmanuel Idemudia Oboh, Diri Said Mohammed, Oladipo Akanmu Tolani, Ayodeji Oyewole Omotoso, Chijioke Ogbonna Erondu, Ajoku Kingsley Obinna, Yakubu Maikasuwa, Henry Eshijonam Omu, and Dagogo Israel Iboroma.

The list also has Joseph Ademu Akubo, Gozie Bertrand Obi, Inam Akpadiagha Wilson, Abubakar Bature Sulu-Gambari, Abioye Araoye Oloyede Asanike, Bolarinwa Elijah Aidi, Tonye Tombete Jenewari Krukrubo, Aderemi Moshood Nashua, Kolapo Olugbenga Kolade and Samuel Peter Karigbo.

Also elevated are Ifeanyichukwu Sylvester Obiakor, Olasoji Olaiya Olowolafe, Mutalubi Ojo Adebayo, Victor Odafe Ogude, Sulayman Olawale Ibrahim, Mumini Ishola Hanafi, Tanko Tanko Ashang, Damian Ohakwe Okoro, Andrew Mwajim Malgwi and Etukwu Onah.

The LPPC list also has Adeboro Lateef Adamson, Kelechi Chinedum Obi, Andrew Osemedua Odum, Okoro Okechukwu Edwin, Godson Chukwudi Ugochukwu, Steven Onyechi Ononye, Ikani Kanu Agabi, Mustapha Shaba Ibrahim and Muzudeen Yunus Abdullahi.

The rest are Magaji Mato Ibrahim, Sunusi Musa, Oladoyin Oluseyi Awoyale, Chukwudubem Bonaventure Anyigbo, Lukman Oyebanji Fagbemi, and Michael Jonathan Numa.

The statement affirmed that the rank of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is awarded as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who have distinguished themselves as advocates and academics

It further indicated that the new members of the Inner Bar would be inaugurated on Monday, November 21, 2022.

Meanwhile, the LPPC meeting has approved new guidelines for the conferment of the rank and all matters pertaining to the status to guide future exercises.

Yobe North: Machina Hails Court Judgement As Lawan Says He'll Not Appeal

Yobe North APC senatorial candidate, Bashir Sheriff Machina has hailed the Federal High Court judgment that declared him the authentic senatorial candidate of the APC describing it as a victory for justice.

He also called on all his supporters, and indeed the people of Yobe North, to remain peaceful, and not to react in the face of any provocation.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Machina’s spokesman, Hussaini Isa which was made available to our Correspondent in Damaturu on Thursday.

Machina who declared the judgement as “no victor, no vanquished” equally called for immediate reconciliation among the two groups that exist within the party in Yobe North.

“I welcome the decision of the Judge of the Federal High Court, Damaturu, it is a victory that stands for justice. It is now time to set aside our differences and close ranks for the impending battle, the next war we must wage is the war for APC’s victory in the coming 2023 general elections”.

“I am particularly happy that the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni places much emphasis on reconciliation as a virile tool for peaceful co-existence, we must therefore embrace it and move forward”.

Machina also thanked all his supporters for their fervent prayers and unflinching support saying, he will work hard if eventually elected as Senator to touch the lives of his constituents in a very positive way.

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, on Thursday, said the force would not discard community policing system arrangements already put in place to checkmate various crimes at local levels.

Baba also disclosed that the force had upgraded its Police Training curriculum to cater for knowledge that will be practically used in carrying out responsibilities in line with the principle of Community-oriented policing.

The police chief stated this at the 11th edition of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) forum in Abuja.

“Over the years, crimes and criminality have adopted a fluid nature. There was a time when society and members of the community, on their own volition, would arrest criminals in their locales and hand them over to the Police for onward prosecution and sanctions.”

“However, with time, society became more and more complicit in covering up criminals amongst them and even offering protection for them against the law enforcers.

“This reality created an urgent need to domesticate the principles of modern policing as advocated for by the revered Sir Robert Peel as early as 1829,” the IGP, represented by a Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department, DIG Johnson Kokumo, said.

He reiterated that the force would make active various platforms such as the Public Complaint Bureau (PCB), and the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) which has the capacity to receive complaints online via social media platforms that can be used for complaints, among others.

According to him, these actions are aimed at building police/citizen trust which is a fundamental basis for effective Community Policing.
