Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state has reiterated his determination to mobilise the teeming population of Ndigbo across the country for the presidential candidate of the ruling All progressive congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 poll.

Uzodinma’s position was reinforced by the President and Founder of the Omaluegwuoku Progressive Initiative (OPI), Hon. Ginika Tor who assured that Ndigbo would set aside tribal sentiments by supporting Tinubu in the interest of Nigeria.

The duo spoke yesterday during the inauguration of National, Zonal and State Executives of the OPI and the unveiling of Igbo Kwenu for Asiwaju/Shettima a brainchild of the organization at the Sheraton hotels and towers, Abuja.

The inauguration came after the OPI had toured the six geo-political zones of the country to hold town hall meetings with Igbos opinion leaders and communities in APC with a view to sensitizing and bringing them on board the Asiwaju/Shettima train.

Uzodinma, represented by Chief Jimmy Imo described Ginika Tor as a woman of repute with outstanding capacity, reassuring the group of his unflinching support for Tinubu whom he described as a man with an unbeatable leadership record.

Uzodinma said he would leave no stone unturned in mobilizing Ndigbo for Tinubu in the 2023 poll.

Ginika Tor, a Federal Commissioner at the federal character commission (FCC) said her group would set aside tribal sentiments by supporting Tinubu in the best interest of Nigeria.

She noted: “Ndigbo will vote wisely this time considering their experience in the past years, where they constantly gave their votes to PDP only to be betrayed at the end. You can recall the statement of our candidate, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he said that he is not a parrot but an eagle, and so we decided to honour persons that have demonstrated the strength of an eagle in our political spheres.”

The Guest Speaker, Sen. Binta Masi Garba, reminded the Igbos that she was once married to them and would advise that they make the right decision and vote massively for a man who has done it before and will sure do it again.

The Special Guest of Honour, Dr Betta Edu, APC National Women Leader, pointed out that Igbos are a critical section of the country that has contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria, adding that Tinubu has always worked with the Igbos and will do more to stabilize the and develop the region.

Member of the Lagos State Assembly and the Co-Deputy National Coordinator of Igbo Kwenu 4 Asiwaju described Tinubu as a detribalized Nigeria who stop at nothing in empowering Ndigbo if voted into power.

Among the ABAT Africa Eagles awardees at the event were Uzodinma, Barr. Chioma Uzodinma, Sen. Oluremi Bola Tinubu, Sen. Binta Masi Garba, Dr. Betta Edu, Chief Felix Idiga, Hon. Dayo Isreal, Hon. Imaan Suleiman, Sen. Sabi Abdullahi, Mrs. Dayo Benjamin Laniyi, Barr. Festus Keyamo, Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu GNG and Dr. Lee Akin Badeji.

The Patrons which include, Hon. Kayode Bawa-Allah, Hon. Moses Anaughe, Hon. Ogbologho, Hon. Ben Nwoye, Engr. Jennifer Uzor, Barr. Bisi Idaomi, Hon. Jennifer Oguzie and all the awardees were also decorated.

NDLEA Uncovers Lagos Mansion Loaded With 13 million Tramadol Pills

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has busted a mansion in the Lekki area of Lagos State where Tramadol was stored.

NDLEA Spokesman, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Monday, said the pills recovered from the mansion were no less than 13,451,466 and worth N8.8bn in street value.

He said the mansion belonged to a billionaire drug baron, Ugochukwu Nsofor Chukwukadibia, who was now in custody.

The statemt read in part, “The arrest of Ugochukwu, who is the Chairman of Autonation Motors Ltd, is coming barely two months after NDLEA uncovered at least 258.7kg of crystal methamphetamine in a clandestine laboratory in the residence of another drug kingpin in the estate, Chris Emeka Nzewi, who was arrested alongside a chemist, Sunday Ukah, who cooked the illicit drug for him, on September 30.

“Following credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives on Friday 30th September stormed the Plot A45 Road 2 home of the 52-year-old billionaire drug kingpin. A search of the expansive mansion led to the discovery of 443 cartons of Tramadol Hydrochloride 225mg, which contains 13, 451, 466 pills of the drug while some cartons were already burnt in a fire incident in the house same day.

“Before his arrest, Ugochukwu who hails from Ihiala local government area of Anambra state has been on the Agencys watch list as one of those behind the tramadol drug cartel in Nigeria.

“Preliminary investigation shows that he has about six mansions within the VGC, one of which he uses to warehouse the tramadol consignment, while he lives in the one at Plot Z-130 Road 67 and another as his office.

“Five exotic vehicles have also been located in two of his mansions, out of which two SUVs including a bullet jeep have been successfully removed to the Agencys facility.

“Reacting to the latest drug haul, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) commended the officers and men involved in the operation for their diligence while also appreciating Nigerians for supporting the Agency in its arduous task of ridding the country of the menace of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.”

Moscow is closely monitoring the situation around Kiev’s bid to join NATO, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday, recalling that Ukraine’s aspiration to join the alliance was one of the reasons for the special military operation.

“We are monitoring this decision very closely. And we remember that it was Ukraine’s NATO orientation and confirmation of Ukraine’s future membership in NATO that was one of the reasons for the special military operation,” he pointed out.

The Kremlin spokesman also drew attention to the fact that the NATO countries showed different reactions to Kiev’s statement. “There are countries there that support this option of accelerated accession, there are countries that do not. In any case, everyone refers to the consensus rule,” Peskov commented on the situation.

Last Friday, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed an application for the country to join NATO on an accelerated basis. The organization’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg did not respond to a direct question from reporters about whether the alliance was ready to consider such an application.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has re-opened bids for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, reports says.

CAF formally stripped Guinea of the rights to host AFCON 2025 on Saturday.

The rights withdrawal followed a meeting on Friday in Conakry between Guinea’s interim president, Col. Mamady Doumbouya, and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Guinea’s inability was due to its infrastructure and facilities not being ready to host a 24-team tournament.

It would be recalled that erstwhile president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick once stated that the country would be willing to co-host AFCON 2025 with next door neighbour, Benin Republic.

Cote d’ voire will host the next edition of the AFCON in 2023.

Rio Ferdinand has condemned Man United coach, Erik Ten Hag’s decision to bench Cristiano Ronaldo for the entire duration of the team’s heavy loss to Man City.

Recall that United were demolished 6-3 by Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium as hat-tricks from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden sealed a 6-3 victory for Pep Guardiola’s side.

However, in a chat with FIVE YouTube channel, the former England international noted that midfielder Casemiro and Cristiano Ronaldo are being disrespected at Manchester United.

“Casemiro’s another one, he’s sitting there going, ‘I’ve won five Champions Leagues with this team’,’ Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel after United’s defeat to City.

“He is a fantastic defensive midfielder, one of, if not the best, in the world before he came to Man United.

“The geeze [Casemiro] hasn’t been given a chance, he hasn’t been given a fair crack of the whip. He’s come in and played in a Europa League game against some dead team.

“He ain’t been given a start in the team when he’s fit and ready…

“I wonder the impact it’s having on someone like him.

Personal life

Ronaldo has had six children. Former Chelsea captain, John Terry, has advised Graham Potter to embrace Jose Mourinho’s pattern of play and management skills with the Blues.

Recall that Potter was appointed after the sacking of Thomas Tuchel few weeks back.

Potter drew his first game in charge in the Champions League against Red Bull Salzburg and secured a late win at Crystal Palace on his first Premier League outing with the Blues on Saturday.

In an interview with beIN Sports, Terry Advised Potter to apply Mourinho’s pattern if he must succeed at Chelsea.

He said on beIN Sports: “I think you get them onside by day one, everyone is going to be watching. That first meeting, the first training session: how does he conduct himself? How does he hold himself? Can he handle this big dressing room?

“And if he’s come in and put his marker down from day one, players go, ‘Ooh hello’. Pretty much like we did when Mourinho came in. Manchester United legend Roy Keane has accused his former club of ‘disrespecting’ Cristiano Ronaldo and warns the situation ‘is going to get ugly’.

Ronaldo was left on the bench as United were hammered 6-3 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in Sunday‘s Premier League fixture.

After the match, Erik ten Hag explained that he did not want to ‘disrespect’ Ronaldo’s career by bringing him on at half time with United already 4-0 down.

But Keane has hit back at Ten Hag’s comments and insists United should have allowed Ronaldo to leave Old Trafford before the summer transfer window closed.

“think Manchester United are just showing disrespect to Ronaldo,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“I think he should’ve been let go before the transfer window [closed].

“I think the manager holding onto him, okay, you say you need options, but if you don’t hold onto Ronaldo to sit on the bench.

“He’s one of the greatest players ever, he had options, this idea that he had no options is rubbish. He did have options, four or five very good options.

“Okay, today, the manager brought Martial on, who scored two, so yeah that’s justified. But generally speaking, the bigger picture, he’s not going to play Ronaldo, we know that. He’s played in one or two European games, it’s just going to get uglier as the season goes on.

“Okay, Ronaldo’s motivated with the World Cup coming up. But if he’s sitting on the bench for Man United week in week out, it’s not good. It’s just going to get ugly.

“I think United have shown nothing but disrespect to Ronaldo, they should’ve let him go when the opportunity came.

“He did have options, I know that for a fact, and holding onto him to sit on the bench I think it’s ridiculous for a player of his stature, for Man United to just keep him [on the bench].

“Even today, could he have brought him on? Of course, he could’ve brought him on. So what if you’re 4-0 down. If you look at his goalscoring record, he has as good a chance as anyone of putting the ball in the back of the net.

“People obsessed with the pressing side of the game… if you put the ball in the right areas, he’ll score goals.

“I’m not saying the manager should be getting rid of players and then he’s short but Martial was always going to be coming back, he wasn’t going to be short, and Rashford’s started the season well, but you don’t keep Ronaldo with his track record to sit on the bench, it’s disrespect, 100 per cent.

“Ronaldo, the most natural thing in the world, is that he’s going to get frustrated. They’re going to be in tomorrow, he’s going to have to train with the other lads [who haven’t played], which is fine, that’s the deal. If everyone’s fit it’s clear Ronaldo will not be starting games for Man United. He’s waiting on a few injuries to get an opportunity.

“That’s where the trouble might be ahead, when you start disrespecting players like that, there’s trouble ahead, I think.

“Ronaldo will be motivated playing the odd game because of the World Cup, of course. He’ll be looking at his legacy, his brand, his pride. He wants to play, you can just see him in the warm-up today, he’s sitting on the bench and he’ll be hurting badly. Despite what he’s won in the game, and he’s won a few big prizes, let me tell you, he did not come back to Man United to sit on the bench during a derby game.”

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, at the weekend, approved the training of police air wing aircraft maintenance engineers comprising 17 officers, whose training was expected to improve the technical expertise of the aircraft maintenance unit of the police air wing and prevent operational mishaps during aerial surveillance operations.

Similarly, the IGP approved the training of more pilots on maintenance of a fully operational Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) squad, training of more engineers on both fixed wing and rotary wing as well as training for other auxiliary aviation staff to streamline operational inadequacies, improve human resourcefulness and ensure enhanced operational efficiency and cohesive operations.

The training, which was held simultaneously, in partnership with foreign experts, came to an end with the presentation of certificates of participation to the trainees by the Inspector-General of Police at the FHQ, Abuja.

A statement by Force Headquarters said the IG met with the leadership of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) and Squadron Commanders at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he, “appraised the internal security situation of the country and unraveled the possible ways of positioning the Nigeria Police Force for effective service delivery through strategic restructuring.

“The IG noted that the PMF, under his leadership and command would be adequately restructured, equipped, with effective training, to align with its age-long tradition of basic unit concept and unit deployment,” he added.

The IG reiterated the importance of proper election security management for the upcoming 2023 general elections. He further challenged the squadron commanders to provide adequate security in their respective areas of responsibility to support the conventional police not only during the general elections but in ensuring and reassuring members of the public of their safety before, during, and after the elections.

Ahead of the 2023 presidential race, a socio-political activist, Reno Omokri, has suggested how the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate Peter Obi would help his All Progressives Congress, APC, counterpart, Bola Tinubu.

Omokri said Obi has helped Tinubu gain a chance at winning the 2023 presidency.

He pointed out that Obi will split the votes meant for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Describing Obi as a ‘Father Christmas’ gift, Omokri stressed that Tinubu has a shot at the presidency because the former Anambra State governor was in the race.

In a series of tweets, the former presidential aide insisted that Obi has helped Tinubu level up to Atiku Abubakar.

He wrote: “Without Obi in the race, Bola Tinubu would have had absolutely no chance. Peter Obi is not the Southeast’s chance. He is Tinubu’s chance!

“He has helped Tinubu level the real race, which is between him and Atiku. For Tinubu, Obi is the best early Christmas gift ever!

“Obi can’t win in 2023. He knows it. I know it. And you about to insult me knows it. The main beneficiary of his campaign is not even the SE. Toe to toe, Tinubu would be eviscerated by Atiku. But with Obi in the race, more of PDP’s votes will go to Obi than APC’s!

“Tinubu is a strategist. Yes, he has health issues. But he retains his Machiavellian tendencies. He knows that the main reason Biden was elected is because he used the lockdown to hide. As a result, Americans did not see how unfit he was. London is Tinubu’s lockdown.”

Minister of Education Doesn’t Deserve A National Honour – NANS

The National Association of Nigerian Students has kicked against the move by President Buhari, to confer National Honours Award on the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu.

ABN TV had reported that Buhari listed 437 names of notable individuals to be honoured on October 11, of which Adamu was among.

Reacting in a statement by its National Public Relations Officer, Giwa Temitope, on Monday, NANS said it was an insult to the collective intelligence of Nigerian students who had been locked out of schools for close to eight months due to the ongoing strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities which Adamu had failed to resolve.

“It constitutes an insult to the collective intelligence of Nigerian students both home and in the diaspora that the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, under whose nose university students have been home for close to eight months is to be awarded the National Honours of Commander of the Order of Niger.

“This act of the Buhari’s administration is a clear pointer to the fact that Nigerian students have been taken for a ride. And, we see this as the final straw that breaks the back of the camel of Buhari’s much touted integrity.

“Over the years, successive administrations in the country have shown to the Nigerian people that the National Honours is more of recognition of patronage than recognition of excellence. But Buhari has taken a step further to show the mass of Nigerian students that we are not on the priority list of the administration.

“It is so unfortunate that a country which offered so much in hope and possibilities at independence has today become a land of suffering, insecurity and near hopelessness signposted by youth unemployment and underfunded educational sector,” the statement partly read.

NANS said that, in a functioning country, both the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, who “shamefully walked out” of a meeting with the national leadership of ASUU at the instance of the House of Representatives, and his Education counterpart would have been fired before now. “But, the reverse is the case as Adamu under whose watch the educational sector of the country has totally collapsed is to be recognised with a National Honour for a job ‘well-done’, it added.

“As an association, we reiterate that we pass a vote of no confidence in both Adamu and Ngige. And, we maintain that we shall be back to the streets in protest against the recklessness of this administration until the Federal Government settles every issue with ASUU for Nigerian students to return to classes,” it concluded.

ABN TV reports that ASUU has been on strike since February 14, 2022.  ASUU, which is the umbrella for university lecturers in Nigeria, is asking for improved welfare conditions for its members, adequate funding for universities, and the replacement of the government-introduced payment platform- Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, with the University Transparency and Accountability Solution. UTAS was designed by ASUU following complaints against the IPPIS over alleged poor standardisation and incompatibility with the university system.
