Senate: Ortom Withdraws Case From Tribunal
Samuel Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has lambasted the state’s governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2023 election, Hyacinth Alia, over the latter’s campaign utterances.

Reports shows that Alia had, while campaigning in Mbatiav, Gboko on Sunday, reeled out how he would spend Benue’s money if elected governor of the state in 2023, stating that his government would be different from the previous ones.

Reacting, Ortom, in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser, Media & Publicity, Terver Akase, said the suspended Catholic priest has “never stated how he will improve the revenue sources of the state and create wealth for the people” but only speaks on how to spend money.

The statement alleged that the APC candidate is now a song composer for the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket, stating that he has never condemned the unprovoked herdsmen attacks on Benue communities or sympathized with families of the victims.

According to Akase, Alia’s refusal to condemn attacks on Benue residents had fueled speculations that he is being sponsored by enemies of the Benue people to deprive them of their ancestral lands.

“The belligerent APC candidate ought to face his legion of litigations arising from the yahoo yahoo primaries conducted by the party which produced him.

“That is a hurdle he must cross before considering himself a contestant in the 2023 elections”, he added.

ISWAP Claims Responsibility For Kuje Attack, Releases Video Of Its Men In Action

No fewer than 101 suspected Boko Haram terrorists have been allegedly released from the Kirikiri Medium Security Prison, Lagos State in exchange for the freed 23 Abuja-Kaduna train attack victims.

According to an online platform, Foundation for Investigative Journalism, wardens at the facility let them out as part of a swap deal for the release of travellers who were abducted in Kaduna on March 28.

The source said the freed suspects had been awaiting trial since 2009, adding that they knew about the Kuje jailbreak before it occurred.

“They secretly released 101 Boko Haram suspects around 6 am. The negotiations had been ongoing for some months. We used to pray together. During prayers, they spoke Hausa, and they told me they would be going home by October.

An official in the prison, however, denied the claim.

The source said there were ongoing efforts to release the suspects based on their illegal detention without trial.

“There is an ongoing court process for the inmates to be released because they have been held since 2009 without trial. That process has not been completed to the best of my knowledge for the inmates to be released,” he added.

What I Would Do About Nnamdi Kanu's Case If I Were In Buhari's Shoe - Ikpeazu

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has revealed what he would have done about the case of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, if he were in President Muhammadu Buhari’s position.

Ikpeazu said this during a recent interview with Vanguard while answering questions on the security challenges in the South-East, and also the internal crisis that has been rocking the opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He said that if he were in the President’s position, he would have engaged the IPOB leader, and enlighten him on certain things, because since he is closer to the grassroots, there might be things he has knowledge about which the President might not know about. He said that engaging him does not mean that the President is trying to bring himself down, but that it is a way of trying to solve the problems, since we are in a democratic society.

He said; “I have said that if I were in the shoe of President Buhari, I would engage Nnamdi Kanu. Engaging him does not belittle our President. He is our citizen, and there may be things that Nnamdi Kanu is not seeing because he is not sitting on the presidential chair. Then, you enlighten him, there could also be things that he is hearing because he is closer to the grassroots which the President doesn’t know and he would enlighten him. This is what leadership is all about, but if you say I would not sit and listen to anything, democracy gives opportunities to be heard.”

As we already know, Nnamdi Kanu is currently on trial for charges bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism which were brought against him by the Nigerian government.

Matawalle Pledges Commitment To Restore Peace In Zamfara

Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, on Monday restated his administration’s commitment to restore peace and peaceful coexistence among people of Zamfara.

This is contained in a statement issued by Matawalle’s Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa, on Monday in Gusau, the state capital.

The governor felicitated with the Muslim Ummah in the state and beyond as the birth date of Prophet Muhammad is being celebrated across the globe.

“Today is the official day set aside by the Government of Nigeria to celebrate this year’s Maulud, the birthdate of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

“I join millions of our Muslim population in the state and beyond in celebration of this auspicious period.

“Indeed, more than 14 centuries ago, Allah bestowed on this world, a blessing which marks His major mercy on mankind by sending his last Messenger to guide us to true salvation.

“Our celebration is a mark of our gratitude to the Almighty for this special favour unto us,” Matawalle said.

He, therefore, admonished Muslims on the teachings of the Prophet as much as they could to enable them live “a peaceful, blessed and fruitful life here and in the hereafter”.

The governor tasked clerics in the state to preach messages of peace and peaceful coexistence among Muslims at the grassroots, as a way of tackling criminality.

He attributed youths’ involvement in banditry, kidnapping and other criminality in the state to the level of ignorance to the exemplary life of the Prophet.

This, he said, “contributed to the proliferation of negative tendencies as we see in vices such as banditry, theft and drug addiction.”

He added, “Therefore, as we celebrate this special day, I enjoin us not to forget the essence of the celebration so that we can all reflect back and change our ways of lives for the better.

“I wish everyone a very memorable event.”

Veron Reveals Why Messi Is Moving To Inter Miami
Messi

Paris Saint-Germain winger, Lionel Messi says Argentina’s inability to win its opening game cost them the chance to win the 2018 World Cup.

Recall that Argentina crashed out of the competition after losing 4-3 in the knockout stages.

However, Messi in a chat with MSC football, stated that losing to Iceland contributed to their failure to win the World Cup.

“The truth is that we didn’t get to it well, the qualifiers cost us,” Messi said.

“There were a lot of changes, a mess in the middle of the Argentina national team with the change of coach, of players…We finished badly but I kept thinking that if we won that first game, everything would have been totally different.

“With Croatia, we played a different way. Until the first goal, we were great and we had just qualified in the last game and even so, we didn’t win against France. When we got the 2-1 Pavard scored that great goal from outside of the area. But we were already bad.”

Interestingly, Albiceleste has won the FIFA World twice; Argentina ’78 and Mexico ’86.
