The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has described former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal as impostors.

Tinubu was reacting to reports of a meeting convened by Dogara at the weekend with some Northern Muslim groups to adopt one of the opposition presidential candidates in a bid to defeat APC’s same-faith ticket.

He said the former Speaker was no longer a member of APC, hence couldn’t speak for any group of APC members.

Speaking through the Director of Media and Publicity at the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the APC presidential candidate said Dogara was not a member of the APC.

A statement by Onanuga reads: “Dogara has apparently lost his mind since he could not realise his self-imposed ambition to be on the presidential ticket of APC.

“The Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council is therefore not surprised by media reports about a meeting of some so-called Northern Christian leaders, who claimed to be members of our All Progressives Congress that were championed by Dogara and his ilks. The claim was totally fraudulent.

“We want to assure Dogara and his co-travellers fanning hate campaign against Tinubu and his running mate, that they will fail spectacularly at the polls.

“Tinubu and Shettima are going into this campaign with clear objectives to engage Nigerians across the socio-economic brackets on policy actions that will make their lives better.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the claim by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the ruling party has no valid presidential candidate for the 2023 general election.

The National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Debo Ologunagba had asked the presidential candidate of the ruling party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to seek legal advice on the implications of last month’s court ruling that nullified the tenure of Governor Mai Mala Buni as the chairman of the party’s national caretaker committee.

The main opposition party also urged Tinubu to account for the consequences and implications of the discrepancies in his academic qualifications and other controversies he has entangled himself with.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, PDP’s spokesman urged Tinubu “to go home and face the issues of inconsistencies in his educational qualifications, name, ancestry, age as well as corruption allegations.”

Reacting, the APC dismissed Ologunagba’s statement, saying he should seek clarification.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stated that the Federal High Court judgment was flawed.

Morka said, “I am confident that the decision will not pass the appellate court’s scrutiny. For one, the decision flies in the face of a valid and subsisting majority Supreme Court decision in Akeredolu’s case which settled the question as to the validity of Mai Mala Buni Caretaker Committee.

“In any event, that committee was duly constituted by the NEC of the APC and everything done by the caretaker committee was duly ratified by the national convention, the highest decision-making organ of the party. Clearly, we stand on the strong legal ground and are unperturbed by that decision.”

At the end of the sporadic gunshots, nine persons were reportedly killed while others who escaped with bullet wounds including children, women and aged parents are presently missing.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent in Lafia on Monday, the President of Tiv Development Association in the state, Peter Ahemba, narrated that five corpses were first recovered on Sunday morning and later that day, four other corpses were recovered from a bush in the community.

While lamenting the persistent unprovoked attacks on his kinsmen in recent time, Ahemba recalled how gunmen killed three people at Antsa village in Kwara, Keana local government Area of the state some weeks ago.

He said, “After the Saturday attack on the Tiv people at Gidan Sule village where three people were reportedly killed by gunmen. I can confirm that on Sunday morning, six other corpses were recovered from the bush and more dead bodies are yet to be discovered.”

Reacting, the State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Bala Muhammed-Dabo, said he was not aware of the killing of any Tiv farmer by his tribesmen.

“I have warned my people (Fulani Herdsmen) not to take laws into their hands as government is on top of the situation, and I will not support anyone who looks for trouble.”

As of the time of filing this report, efforts made to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, proved abortive as he did not respond to calls put across to his mobile lines.

The National Emergency Management Agency and the Disaster Response Unit of the military has commenced aerial view of the flooded communities in Anambra.

The exercise is to ascertain persons who are still trapped by the rising flood with a view to airlifting them out of the affected communities.

The Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, South-East, Thickman Tanimu, made this known in Awka on Monday.

Tanimu disclosed that the Presidency and the Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Ahmed-Habib, commiserated with the state government and flood victims including the bereaved.

He said relief materials had been approved for the flood victims, adding that the relief materials would be presented directly to them on Tuesday.

He also pointed out that the delay in the arrival of relief materials is due to the flood disaster that cut off Abuja – Lokoja road and the security situation due to the Monday sit-at-home in the South East.

He said, “Search and rescue operations have commenced today(Monday). The military disaster response unit have engaged and have started ‘Air Recce’ or aerial view to collect imagery intelligence of the affected communities.

“This will help to ascertain displaced and trapped persons who need to be evacuated to pave way for air lifting.

“The delay in arrival of the relief materials is due to the flood disaster that cut off Abuja – Lokoja road and also the security situation due to the Monday sit-at-home in the South East.

“The relief material will hopefully arrived Tuesday and be ready for delivery directly to victims.

“These items are meant to complement the efforts of Anambra state government in providing immediate succour to victims and aid their speedy rehabilitation.”

The communities in the Ogbaru Local Government Area have been mostly devastated by flood currently ravaging some parts of the state.

Abia Central: Rep. Onuigbo Vows To Appeal Judgement Affirming His Illegal Substitution As APC Candidate

Abia Central: Hope Dims For APC As INEC Shuns Atuma After Party Dropped Onuigbo In Unexplained Circumstances

Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rep. Sam Onuigbo has expressed shock over the decision of the Federal High Court, Umuahia, which on Friday struck out his suit challenging what he called his illegal substitution as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Abia Central Senatorial in the upcoming election next year.

As a lawmaker, I believe that the judiciary should at all times be the agency of justice and thus the hope of the common man. Unfortunately, I do not at this time feel that the Federal High Court, Umuahia has exhaustively looked into my case and taken the right decision,” he said in a statement.

He insists that Emeka Atuma who was affirmed by the court as the authentic candidate of the party for the senatorial district never contested the election for which he parades himself as candidate.

According to Onuigbo, the May 28, 2022 senatorial election of APC for Abia Central monitored by INEC was between him and Chief Henry Ikoh who is now a minister of the federal republic.

“It is my belief that it is unjust for the name of a legitimately elected candidate to be substituted with the name of someone who never bought the forms for the Senatorial seat, was never screened nor participated at any level of the Senatorial primaries.

“Gon Emeka Atumah contested for Abia APC Gubernatorial primaries with High Chief Ikechi Emenike on May 26, 2022 and came second. Allowing this travesty to go unchallenged will be tantamount to giving injustice, illegal actions and impunity silent support. No matter what, we must make our contributions to history as people who did our best to call out injustice and impunity wherever we saw it, and confront it using legal means.”

He said, after consultation with his legal and strategy teams, he will be appealing this judgement at the Court of Appeal.

He therefore called on his supporters to remain calm as the mandate will be reclaimed at the appeal court.

While we seek for justice at the Appeal Court, I enjoin my supporters to remain calm but resolute, and most importantly, peaceful and law abiding as we continue with our campaign. The wheel of justice may turn slowly, but it is the common man’s only hope,” he added.

Three brothers and their friend have been apprehended by the police “for carrying out series of robbery operations in Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State.”

The Ogun State police image maker, Abimbola Oyeyemi, identified the three brothers as Hammed Jagbojagbo, Idris Jagbojagbo and Tobi Jagbojagbo, while their accomplice was named Tosin Ogundeko.

Their arrest, Oyeyemi said, followed a distress call received at Igbeba divisional headquarters that some armed robbers invaded a Premier Lotto agent’s shop at the Odi Olowo area of Ijebu Ode and made away with his N90,000.

“The robbers also snatched a Bajaj motorcycle belonging to one Clement Conleth,” Oyeyemi stated.

He spoke further that the arrested Ogundeko later led detectives to their hideout in the Epe area of Lagos State, where the three brothers were nabbed.

One of the suspects, simply identified as Tosin (a.k.a Socket), had escaped.

“On interrogation, the suspects confessed to being responsible for various motorcycle snatching operations in Ijebu-Ode and its environs.

He added that one cut-to-size locally made gun and one Bajaj motorcycle were recovered from the suspects.

Russian Strikes Targeted Energy Infrastructure Across Ukraine, Ukrainian Official Laments

The series of Russian missiles launched at Ukraine on Monday morning was aimed at “critical infrastructure to destroy the country’s energy supply,” according to a Ukrainian government official.

Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, also warned Ukrainians to be prepared for blackouts.

“Power facilities from Lviv to Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv to Khmelnytskyi region, Dnipro and Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk region, Sumy region, Kharkiv region, Zhytomyr region, Kirovohrad, and the entire south are targeted,” Tymoshenko said on Telegram.

“This may affect the stability of energy supply, so we need to be prepared for the consequences of such shelling, up to rolling blackouts,” he added.

The Ukrainian State Emergency Service said there is no electricity supply in five regions — Lviv, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv and Ternopil — and power supply has been partially disrupted in the rest of the country.

A Trade Group Declares Support For Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu

A Trade Group Declares Support For Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu

A trade group, under the auspices of Lagos Planks and Building Materials Market Association, has expressed support for the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu and the second term bid of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2023 general polls.

The President of the association, Abdullateef Adelodun, on behalf of members expressed their support at a media briefing in Ikeja, on Friday, ahead of the group’s 30th anniversary celebration slated for November 1.2023.

Adelodun said that the trade group, operating in 170 markets in Lagos, have resolved to support all the APC candidates in the state as well at the forthcoming general elections.

According to him, “Among those jostling to get the presidency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu stands head and shoulder above the rest. If we, as a nation, are ruled by the desire to tap our most competent, most able, best tested and adroit consideration for the presidency, Asiwaju is the impeccable choice.

“Lagos today serves as a refuge to other Nigerians who are fleeing from the farcical misrule and gross incompetence in their home states. Lagos is not playing this role by accident.

“Tinubu deliberately planned Lagos for this role when he involved other tribes in the governance of Lagos and ensured that the all-encompassing policy was enduring to date.

“We are supporting Asiwaju’Tinubu because we know he has the capacity to serve all Nigerians in equal measures.

“When Tinubu is elected president, he will be a Nigerian first before being a Yoruba man, and he did demonstrate this cosmopolitan carriage when he was Lagos governor,” he said.

Adelodun, therefore, urged South-West zone to adopt and rally around Tinubu to ensure victory as he remains the best man to succeed the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, with its second largest votes in order to bring the dividends of democracy to the ordinary Nigerians.

“The association is wholly convinced and sure that Tinubu is the Yoruba’s best foot in 2023, considering his antecedents and his fruitful governance in Lagos,” he said.

Adelodun added that Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, has paid his dues with wealth of experience, worked out an oasis of growth and economic development, which had benefitted and continued to benefit other states and other ethnic groups apart from the Yoruba.

He continued: “The South West must vote for Tinubu because he is the best option of this in the race; he is the most experienced. No one has his kind of experience; he is very competent and qualified.

“He is a man from the south west, he is our leader from the south west, he is our own, why should we not vote for our own?

“Tinubu is a leader who transforms nothing into something and feeds his people from the riches of what has been so transformed. Tinubu ‘deserves kudos for spotting political talents’.

“Of course, the pivotal role Tinubu played in the formation of APC, which eventually wrested power from PDP, cannot be ignored.

“It is uncharitable for some individuals in the South West to continue their unsavoury commentaries on the candidacy, but Tinubu needs total support of Yoruba.

“If given the maximim support, Tinubu will impact on the general human capital development and provide right atmosphere for Yoruba to excel in various endeavous.

“Given the massive success Tinubu wrought in Lagos, it behoves every Yoruba man to see the dawn of a golden future not only for Yoruba but all Nigerians with a Tinubu presidency.

“The South as a whole and indded every Nigerian must now see this season as an opportunity we cannot afford to miss in the interest of the entire country.

“We need to march in great numbers as Yoruba, to support our very best chance at the Nigerian Presidency in 2023.

“He is at the very door of success. The least every Yoruba owe him is our total and unalloyed support as history beckons in 2023.

“Our members as individuals and as a group have continued to be law abiding in all the 13 zones and 170 markets, and support of government policies and programmes for the progress of the state,” Adelodun state
