Court Adjourns Till 12noon To Allow FG File Charges On Why Nnamdi Kanu Should Be Detained Further

The Court of Appeal on Monday adjourned till 12noon in a stay of execution filed by the federal government, demanding further detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

ABN TV reports that the federal government through the Ministry of Justice filed a stay of execution after the court last week discharged and acquitted Nnamdi Kanu of terrorism related charges.

The court of appeal during hearing, had denied the prosecutors an adjournment plea as Nnamdi Kanu’s lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome argued that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must be released before any adjournment.

The court however gave the Ministry of Justice till 12noon to file reason why Nnamdi Kanu should by detained further after the discharge and acquittal order.

Bode George Backs The Call For Iyorchia Ayu’s Resignation

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bode George, has backed the call for the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

George faulted the resolution of the Acting PDP’s Board of Trustees, BoT, chairman, Adolphus Wabara-led reconciliation committee.

The Wabara-led PDP BoT, in its report submitted to the party, recommended that the National Chairman, Iyorhcia Ayu, should resign after the 2023 general elections.

The committee also urged Ayu to assure members that he would step down after the polls.

Some PDP governors like Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State have been calling for Ayu’s resignation.

They argued that PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the National Chairman can’t come from the same region.

However, while appearing on Channels Television’s Programme, Sunday Politics, George wondered why the PDP chairman should be a judge in his own case.

He said: “The board of trustees met, and we are told by one group that what they recommended was not what the acting board of trustees chairman said on the day they presented the report. So what is going on? For example, I wasn’t invited to the meeting. I am a life member of the board of trustees. We were not there.

“And the shocking part of it, when I saw it on television, I saw that Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the party, who was the centre of the issue, was sitting as a judge in his own case. Does that make any judicial sense? You are discussing him; he is sitting as if he was the one moderating. That is not the way things are done. I don’t know what the factual analysis is. All we were told was that Ayu made a promise and he must honour his promise.

“On that day, we were told again that was not what was said. What was said was that Ayu should make a promise that when the elections are over, he will leave, that he will make that promise. My goodness, time is of the essence. Nobody is going to wait for us.”

Peter Obi Reacts To Baba-Ahmed’s EndSARS ‘Massacre’ Comment
Mr Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has reacted to the statement made by his Vice Presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, about the Lekki toll gate shooting during the EndSARS protest.

Recall that Baba-Ahmed, while featuring in an interview session on the Channels TV programme, Politics Today, last week, claimed the use of the word ‘massacre’ for the Lekki shooting during the October 2020 #EndSARS protest is debatable.

The assertion attracted negative comments from some Nigerians, especially the youths, who believed his statement was a denial that killings took place at the Lekki toll gate.

However, Obi, while fielding questions on the Arise TV Morning Show programme on Monday morning, said he was hearing Datti’s statement about the Lekki shooting for the first time.

He said that so many things were done wrongly in the past and needed to be apologised for.

“I did not even listen to that; maybe I will go back and listen to everything. I must tell you, I did not listen to it; I am just hearing it for the first time. For me, there are things we need to probably open up tomorrow and look into.

“I have always said, in my reconciliation, we must go back to certain things and be able to apologise to people because things were done wrongly. There are so many things that we need to apologise for in this country”, he said.

Don’t Always Expect Miracles – Conte Tells Tottenham Fans

I’m Not Expecting Conte Back For Tottenham Vs Chelsea Clash, Says Stellini
Antonio Conte

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Antonio Conte, has warned fans not to expect miracles from him due to the number of players that are injured.

He made this known on the backdrop of his team’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United in Sunday’s Premier League game.

The Italian tactician also stated that he needs time because he has just started the process of building a strong squad.

“The fans have to understand we are doing our best in every moment. The commitment was really high. It is a difficult moment for us as we don’t have three or four players in the squad; then you are in trouble. We have to try to manage and overcome this situation together. This squad can’t allow us to lose four players.

“You see the title contenders in these periods when you play every three days because you need to have depth in your squad. A strong squad with great quality. We have only just started our process. From the Conference League, we are now playing Champions League. We are trying to improve step-by-step, but you need time and patience. From my experience, we are doing well, not the best, but we need time and patience. And to understand ways we can overcome problems in the future.

“If we play one game every six or seven days, we can fight for something important. To play a lot of games every three days, we need to build our path and patience. We can’t invent wins or do a miracle.

“We have just started the process. If someone doesn’t want to listen, it’s not my problem. From my experience, we have to have patience. These players want to work a lot but it’s not enough. If we have many injuries it affects our season,” Conte said.

President Buhari Vows To Deliver Nigeria Air As ”Parting Gift”

President Muhammadu Buhari in the course of the week assured that the promised National Carrier would commence flight operations on or before December this year.

The president gave the assurance at the 3rd Ministerial Performance Review Retreat on Monday in Abuja.

According to him, the establishment of the National Carrier for Nigeria is at 91 per cent completion, saying the feat is being boosted with the certification of Lagos and Abuja International Airports by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

He said Kano and Port Harcourt Airports are undergoing similar certification processes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria Air gulps N14.6 billion, under five per cent government’s equity share.

NAN reliably learnt that the Federal Government had already taken delivery of nine out of the 20 training aircraft meant for the smooth preparation for the Nigeria Air project.

On the economy at the retreat, the President restated that the country had witnessed seven consecutive quarters of growth, after negative growth rates recorded in the 2nd and 3rd Quarters of 2020.

According to him, high-impact projects have also been implemented across the country meeting the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.

The president highlighted remarkable progress made in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure, security, health and anti-corruption, among others.

He told participants and guests at the retreat, including the Keynote Speaker and immediate past President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, that over 3,800km of roads had been constructed across the country.

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who also addressed the participants on Tuesday, pledged to build on the legacies of President Muhammadu Buhari if elected as president in 2023.

Tinubu, who made an appearance at the retreat at the invitation of the organisers, commended Buhari for doing so well for Nigeria since he assumed office in 2015.

Also at the closing of the retreat on Oct. 18, Buhari warned Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Government Agencies not to abandon the business of governance for electioneering, saying ”any infraction will be viewed seriously”.

He told participants that with the commencement of campaigns towards the 2023 general elections, the business of governance must continue to receive the needed attention during this period.

The president, who signed Executive Order 012 on Improving Performance Management, Coordination and Implementation of Presidential Priorities, directed the Ministry of Transportation and relevant security agencies to ensure the provision of maximum security along the nation’s railway corridors.

On Oct. 19, the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, commiserated with Buhari after severe floods claimed many lives and affected millions in the country.

In the condolence message, the Japanese prime minister expressed deep sadness over ”the recent floods caused by heavy rainfall in many states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria which have claimed many precious lives and forced many people to evacuate”.

Buhari also signed into law the Nigeria State-up Bill 2022 on Oct. 19.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, confirmed this to State House correspondents shortly after the president appended his signature on the bill to become an Act.

According to Pantami, the new Act will come into effect with so many economic benefits for the country.

On the same day, the Nigerian leader received a Special Envoy from President Julius Mada Bio of Sierra Leone, where he wished the West African country the best of luck in its general elections, billed for June 2023.

Buhari said: “I am pleased that you are pursuing your political programmes effectively, just like us. We wish each other the best of luck.”

The Special Envoy, Andre Thomas Hope, said that his country was bidding for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council, and solicited Nigeria’s support.

On Oct. 21, Buhari conferred Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) on former President Goodluck Jonathan and 43 other prominent Nigerians.

NEAPS was set up to recognise distinguished public service to Nigeria, either contributions to individuals, state or local community or the public through excellence in leadership, service or humanitarianism.

The president inaugurated the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as unveiling the Action Plan of the APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in Abuja on Friday.

At the event, Buhari says the APC-led Federal Government has ”managed to make Nigeria stable,” laying a solid foundation for progressive growth despite the socioeconomic challenges facing the country.

According to him, the APC-led administration has continued to stabilise the country despite the unfavourable circumstances of global economic downturns, the COVID-19 pandemic and very low international oil prices resulting in low revenue.

Buhari concluded the week with the inauguration of the Pinnacle Oil and Gas FZE Terminal in Lekki, Lagos, on Saturday, saying the operations of the facility will ease congestion at the Apapa Port area.

In a video message at the inauguration of the facility, the president said it had also reduced the cost and delivery of petroleum products distribution to many parts of the country.

He congratulated the Chief Executive Officer of Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd., Mr Peter Mbah, for establishing the massive terminal facility and for providing hundreds of jobs for Nigerians.

NAN reports that the president has since departed Abuja for Seoul, South Korea, to participate in the First World Bio Summit 2022, and other official engagements.

The two-day (Oct. 25-26) summit with the theme: ”The Future of Vaccine and Bio-Health,” is jointly organised by the Government of the Republic of Korea and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Chelsea Submit An Official Bid For Osimhen
Victor Osimhen

Roma manager, Jose Mourinho has hailed Victor Osimhen’s ability to take half chances.

The Super Eagles striker scored the only goal as Napoli beat Mourinho’s men 1-0 on Sunday night.

A run of 10 consecutive victories has now made the Partenopei Europe’s most in-form team.

They had scored 32 goals in those games, a rich average of more than three goals per game but against Roma, Luciano Spalletti hit a button quite unexpectedly.

The Napoli manager picked Osimhen over Giacomo Raspadori to start the Serie A clash

Fed with a route-one ball from Mateo Politano, Osimhen wrestled off the holding Chris Smalling before delivering a stunner from the most impossible of angles.

“We have to be more decisive upfront, what lodges into the statistics are the shots on goal.

“Then I also look at the half opportunities, those that you have to transform into opportunities as Osimhen did,” Mourinho told DAZN after the game.

Man United To Allow Ronaldo Leave In January

Ronaldo Might Return To Man Utd Under Amorim—Sheringham
Ronaldo

Manchester United will allow Cristiano Ronaldo to leave in the January transfer window, the Sun reports.

But first Ronaldo will sit down for crunch talks with Erik ten Hag on Monday.

The 37-year-old caused fury last Wednesday when he refused to come on as a late substitute against Tottenham.

He then walked down the tunnel and left Old Trafford before the full-time whistle blew.

He was slapped with a ban by Ten Hag – forcing him to sit out of yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea – and fined £720,000.

SunSport revealed Ronaldo may well have played his last game for the Red Devils after burning bridges with any remaining allies at the club.

Ronaldo is under contract until the end of the season, but the Mirror report United is keen to get him off the books as soon as possible.

However, that relies on the Red Devils finding a club that wants to stump up the money for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner – although Chelsea is reportedly considering a swoop.

SunSport revealed it would cost the Old Trafford side £ 10 million to rip up his contract early due to his mammoth £360,000-a-week wages.

Ten Hag wants to see evidence of genuine remorse and an apology before allowing Ronaldo to rejoin first-team training.

The pair are set to sit down for a meeting to discuss the next steps.

‘I Won’t Rule Nigeria From Dubai’ Tinubu Mocks Atiku

2023 Election: Tinubu Will Make Nigeria Work, Says Nnamani
Bola Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has mocked his counterpart from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, as the race for the 2023 presidential heats up.

Tinubu said unlike Atiku, he would not be a part-time President who shares his time between living in Dubai and Nigeria.

He spoke during an interactive session with members of the Tijaniyya sect in Kano yesterday, and was contained in a statement by his Media Aide, Tunde Rahman.

Tinubu promised to focus on confronting and surmounting Nigeria’s challenges.

According to Tinubu: “I promise to devote 100% of my time and energy to serving Nigeria.

“You will have it better with me, not 50% in Dubai in the United Arab Emirate, 50% in Nigeria.”

He further noted that top on the list of his agenda is improved electricity, security, agriculture, provision and completion of dams, and provision of quality education.

At the meeting, members of the Tijaniyya sect, led by Sheikh Bashir Tijjani Usman Zangon Bareebah, presented a long list of issues the sect wants the APC Presidential candidate to address when he gets to office.

SpaceX Won't Turn Off Starlink In Ukraine Regardless Of US Funding - Elon Musk

SpaceX will provide Ukraine with Starlink satellite telecommunications services even if the Pentagon declines to fund the network’s operation in the country, US businessman Elon Musk said on Monday.

He said he had given the assurance to Ukrainian Digital Transformation Minister Mikhail Fyodorov.

“Before the Department of Defense even came back with an answer, I told Mikhail Fyodorov that SpaceX would not turn off Starlink even if DoD refused to provide funding,” Musk said on Twitter.

The Ukrainian minister confirmed the statement in a reply to Musk.

“Before all the talks about funding, you confirmed to me that in any case you will ensure the work of Starlinks in Ukraine. This was critically important for Ukraine. We are grateful to you!” Fyodorov said.

In an interview to Politico published on Friday, Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov said Kiev was in direct contact with Musk over Starlink and its funding. Reznikov said sources of funding for Starlink could be the Pentagon, the EU and private donations.

CNN reported on October 13 it had obtained a letter where SpaceX notified the US DoD it would cease to pay for its satellite communications system in Ukraine and wouldn’t provide any new terminals for the country for an indefinite time. The letter asked the Pentagon to bankroll any additional Starlink terminals for Kiev and the system’s operation in the interests of the Ukrainian government and military.

Musk backtracked on October 15, saying he would carry on funding Starlink in Ukraine, despite financial losses. The US State Department has welcomed the decision.
