Nnamdi Kanu: South-East Governors Seek Political Solution

The South-East Governors’ Forum has called on the Federal Government to deploy a political solution to the case of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

The governors made the demand on Sunday after an emergency meeting held in Enugu.

The demand forms part of a communique issued at the end of the meeting and read by the forum’s chairman and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi.

Reading the resolutions of the forum, Umahi said, “South-East Governors are watching with keen interest the developments with respect to the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu viz-a-viz the Court rulings. However, we believe that a political solution is still possible in this circumstance.”

The forum decried the state of insecurity in the region and expressed worry over economic activities which have come to a halt while kidnapping and wanton killing have become the order of the day.

They also resolved to set up a 24-hour joint patrol in all major highways in the region.

“South-East Governors call on the Federal Government to come to our aid in providing security in the Zone bearing in mind that elections are around the corner.

“Meanwhile, South-East Governors have agreed to set up a 24-hour Joint Patrol in all major highways within the South-East, especially during the Christmas season,” the Forum said.

The Governors commended the States and the Federal Government on efforts so far made to alleviate the sufferings of the victims of the recent flood menace in the country and expressed the hope for a desirable long-term solution.

“South-East Governors have decided to put funds together to further assist the victims of flooding in our five States in the South-East. We also plead with the Federal Government to please initiate action in the dredging of rivers in the South-East, to ameliorate the destruction of houses, farmlands and properties. We request the Federal Government to come to the aid of the victims in terms of rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons,” they said.

At the meeting were Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma who was represented by his deputy, Professor Placid Njoku.

Carnival As Kidnapped Former Enugu SSG, Others Regain Freedom

It was a mini get together and thanksgiving program that quickly turned into a carnival of some sort for the release on Saturday, October 29 of the former Secretary to Enugu State Government and many others who were kidnapped with him on Thursday, October 27, 2022.

ABN TV gathered that Dr. Dan Shere and other unspecified number of persons including University of Nigeria students who were returning back to school after eight months of ASUU strike were kidnapped along Ugwuogo Nike/Opi Nsukka road.

It was not clear whether ransom was paid before their release een as the state government has earlier on mobilised security agencies to track down the hoodlums and rescue the victims.

In the meantime, it was gathered that the road was being cleared by the state government so as to get rid of any criminal element.

Nevertheless, Opi, the hometown of the former SSG is currently standing still as political bigwigs in the state are already in the community to register their presence and thanksgiving for safe release of the former state scribe.

Governors of Ebonyi, Enugu, and Abia and Deputy Governors of Anambra and Imo states are presently locked in a marathon meeting in the Enugu government house.

Governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi, who is also the Chairman of South East Governors Forum is presiding over the meeting that is devoid of other southeast leaders, except the governors and deputies.

Among serious issues of concern in the region is the status of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the issue of insecurity escalation in the southeast.

Only recently, over 30 commuters along Enugu-Nsukka road were kidnapped including ex and present government officials, magistrates, students and other citizens.

Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention with the DSS despite the court of appeal verdict to release him from custody and return him to Kenya is also another matter hitting up the zone.

Nnamdi Kanu: Avoid Executive Rascality, Impunity – Igbo Youths Tell FG

0
We Cannot Release Nnamdi Kanu Now, FG Gives Reason

The Apex Socio-cultural youth organization of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ohanaeze Youth Council, has urged the federal government of Nigeria, to desist from indulging executive Rascality and Impunity.

This is following the recent verdicts of the Court ordering the immediate release of the detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and the subsequent blunt refusal of the APC led Government of President Mohammed Buhari to adhere to the order.

The Council, through the National President, Comrd. Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, accused the All Progressives Congress, (APC) led Government, that has characterized the government of indiscriminate involvement in rascality and impunity since its emergence in 2015.

Speaking to newsmen over the weekend on the recent resounding victory of Nnamdi Kanu at the Federal High Court, Umuahia which bothered on the eight count charges against the federal government of Nigeria, as filled by the lead counsel Barr. Aloy Ejimakor.

Speaking, he said: “It’s historic that on October 26, 2022, the Federal High Court Umuahia, delivered a judgement bothering on eight count charges which included extraordinary rendition of Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya.”

The Council noted that the competent court in a judgement delivered by Justice Evelyn Anyadike awarded N500m naira to Nnamdi Kanu, stating that Federal government violated every International standard Law on issue of Extraordinary Rendition “known to world legal global practice.”

Comrade Igboayaka O gboayaka, advised the government of Buhari to shun any atom of executive egoism, rascality and impunity but promptly comply with the terms of the judgment, noting that, “no region or tribe will survive, if they lead the country to 1967 to 1970 ugly history that took place in Nigeria.

At this juncture Nigeria government should earnestly embrace the political solution on Nnamdi Kanu case as initiated by Prof. George Obiozor as a panacea for national peace and political stability.

“It’s important for the world to know that the decisions and judgments on Nnamdi Kanu matter indicate a consistent judicial uprising against the detention of this noble freedom fighter particularly, and the militarist response of the government to the agitation for Biafra.

“It is, therefore time for a change of path towards an immediate political solution. On this note, we call on the Federal government to quickly put an end to all litigations, release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB members in detention and pave the way for a constructive dialogue and negotiations on the agitations”.

However, on the courageous judgement as declared by Justice Anyadike, OYC President Comr Igboayaka described the Judge as the eyes of judiciary in Nigeria, noting that her judgement “has proven that judiciary is the last hope of a common man and a true guide for a democratic government.

The judgement of Justice Evelyn Anyadike at Abia State Federal High Court, Umuahia has saved Nigeria from global legal mockery and humiliation, indeed it has bolstered the image of Nigeria before the International community”, Comrade Igboayaka stated.

Meanwhile, the council commended the Barr. Aloy Ejimakor’s led legal team of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu their doggedness as a renowned legal luminary to fight for justice for the freedom fighter.

Orji Uzor Kalu

The Orji Uzor Kalu Campaign Organization has said that the Chief Whip of the Senate will win the 2023 Abia North Senatorial election with a landslide.

The campaign organization based their optimism on the excellent performance of Kalu at the Red Chamber in the last three and half years and his capacity to deliver more if re-elected in 2023.

Spokesman of the campaign organization, Sunny Idika in a chat with newsmen in Umuahia, declared that Kalu is the man to beat in the senatorial poll, saying, “Kalu is going to win, even landslide as he did in 2019. The voters in Abia North are going to re-elect him overwhelmingly even better than they did in 2019.”

He further described Kalu as an excellent performer whose track record of achievements speaks volume.

Idika said Kalu’s achievements and contributions to the advancement of Abia North and Nigeria at large placed him far ahead of other candidates.

He added that Kalu has redefined representation by attracting massive projects to the zone using his vast and sophisticated contacts, thereby making his constituents happy.

According to him, “Through Kalu’s effort, Abia North is now a construction site with projects scattered across the five local government areas.

“Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has done what others couldn’t do over the years. He has verifiable projects across all the wards in Abia North Senatorial District. We are talking about construction of rural roads, renovation of schools, distribution of educational and agricultural materials, youth and women empowerment, scholarship to Abia North students to study medicine and surgery abroad and installation of solar street lights across the district.

“This is unprecedented from a Senator in less than four years at the national assembly. Don’t forget that he has sponsored over 50 bills and 30 motions within this short period. Only a trailblazer like Kalu can do it. His victory at the poll is going to be a landslide because our people are not going to reciprocate his good works,” he added.

Peter Obi Promises To End Food Insecurity In Nigeria

0

Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday promised to solve Nigeria’s flood challenge and ensure the country attains sufficiency in food production if elected in 2023.

He spoke on Saturday at a rally in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital at the commencement of his campaigns ahead of next February election.

The former Anambra State governor said his government will move Nigeria from consumption to production and job creation.

He promised to fix Nigeria’s power conundrum, amongst others, and wondered why the Super Eagles couldn’t qualify for Qatar 2022 World Cup starting next month.

After he observed a one-minute silence in honour of all flood victims across the country, Obi said, “I assure you if we come into power, we will solve this flooding problem.”

“We are not going to do it overnight but we will start solving it. It will not take 30 years. The Federal Government said it will take 30 years, it will not take 30 years for us to solve it.

“Let me assure you, the government Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed will change Nigeria for good,” he said.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency, the 2022 floods devastatingly claimed over 600 lives in Nigeria and displaced millions of people who now seek refuge in Internally Displaced Persons’ camps scattered across the country.

Many farmlands have been washed away by the floods and experts have worried that the situation will affect food prices.

‘Nigeria Can Feed Itself’

On Saturday, 61-year-old Obi, who promised to support farmers and youths in the country, added that Nigeria can feed itself if the right measures are taken.

“If we come into government, I assure you, farmers will go back to farms because we are going to deal with insecurity, we will support youths; the more youths are pulled out of poverty, the more we reduce criminality.

“We will support youths because today Nigerian youths don’t have a home. When we come into government, the youths will have homes because we will solve their problems.”

“Today in Nigeria, people spend all their money to feed themselves. So many people can’t even feed themselves. We will make sure that we start the journey of Nigeria being sufficient in food production. If Israel can feed itself, Nigeria can feed itself. If India can feed itself, Nigeria can feed itself,” he said.

Also at the rally include Obi’s running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed; Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure; the party’s Director General of the National Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe, amongst others.

The Nigerian Communication Commission has reassured the public that the new Fifth Generation network popularly known as 5G has no negative health effects.

The Enugu Zonal Controller of the NCC, Mr Ogbonnaya Ugama, made the clarification in Enugu on Saturday at a round table with members of the Association of Heads of Federal Establishments.

Ugama explained that there was no convincing evidence associated with emissions from electromagnetic devices including handsets were harmful to the body.

According to him, international bodies including the World Health Organisation had established a threshold that there was no solid evidence that 5G caused negative health effects on humans and animals.

The controller, however, advised users not to hold these electromagnetic devices like handsets close to their body if they had doubts.

“The NCC will do everything possible to guarantee the safety of the citizenry and ensure that every equipment with set standards is approved.

Ugama reiterated the benefits of the 5G network saying that it was designed to increase speed, reduce latency and improve flexibility of wireless services.

“5G has theoretical peak speed of 20 Gigabytes per Second while the peak speed of 4G is only one GBPS.

“5G can transform the Nigeria’s economy, dwelling on its projected impact in sectors of education, finance, security, agriculture, healthcare, entertainment and even governance,” he said.

The controller disclosed that Nigeria was the third country in Africa that had rolled out the 5G network adding that it was operational in six states of Lagos, Imo, Borno, Kano, Rivers, Oyo and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Ugama said the network would be extended to other states by 2025.

Nobody Can Remove From Office As PDP Chairman, Ayu Vows

0

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has assured his kinsmen that nobody would remove him from office.

Ayu made the remark while addressing his kinsmen of Jemgba ethnic group at his residence in the Gboko area of Benue State.

The national chairman has been having a running battle with some PDP governors including his home state Governor, Samuel Ortom, who are asking him to resign from office.

Ayu reassured the people that there was nothing to worry about over the call for him to vacate office.

He said, “The PDP is one and not divided. I am trying my best not to disappoint Benue people and Nigerians in general. So if you hear that they want to chase Ayu out as national chairman, don’t be worried; nobody is going to sack me as national chairman of our party. I will leave the seat at a day that God permits.”

He thanked Gboko people for the show of love to him, stressing that, “since I started politics in PDP in the last 30 years, Gboko has not rejected me, you are always supporting me. They say a prophet has no respect in his home, but my case is different I am overwhelmed by this great show of love. Nothing should worry you my people.”

Ayu added, “So nobody should try to bring any trouble to you. I am telling you today, PDP is one party, a party that has divisions does not win elections. No matter the strength of any party, if it does not have unity, it will lose elections.

“I have been silent over all the things you are hearing against me because I don’t want any crack in the party I belong in my state. I have the powers to say you and you will not go anywhere because I will insist that I must sign before you go anywhere.

“But I have signed for all candidates produced by the PDP to go ahead in their dreams, whether I liked it or not I signed. So I was doing that believing that I cannot shot myself in the leg.

“I want Benue to come first by winning all elections so that Nigerians will say that the national chairman has delivered his state to PDP with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar winning 90 percent of the votes and Titus Uba as governor in 2023.”

The PDP national chairman further stated that only God enthrones leadership and uses people to enthrone a person over others and protects that person.

He said, “I want to assure you that all these days, God has been protecting me even when I went on sick leave abroad, God was still protecting me.

“The Tiv people have suffered so much in this country. We are yet to get our share of the national cake, so my charge to you is not to relent prayers so that this time around come 2023, God will give us president who will work closely with the Governor of our state to wipe out our tears.

“During the senator J S Tarka’s era, God gave us a Fulani man, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, did he fight the Tiv nation? Did he kill our people? He appointed 5 ministers from Benue state and speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Chaha, Paul Unongo (Minister of steel), Isaac Shaahu (Minister of Communications), Mrs. Elizabeth Ivase (Education Minister) and Audu Ogbeh etc was he not a Fulani man?

“Another Fulani man, Yar Adua appointed a Tiv man, Michael Kaase Aondoakaa his Minister of Justice.

“Today, the flagbearer of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar who is not only a chieftaincy title holder of the Tiv people as the Zege Mule U the Tiv, he is my friend, he told me his plans for the Tiv nation. That he will wipe away the tears of the people.”
