Nathan Tella admitted that leaving Arsenal at a young age was a difficult experience for him.

Tella honed his skills for 10 years at the Gunners academy before he was released in 2017.

The Nigeria international was also turned down by Reading and Norwich City.

The winger however got another chance at Southampton, where he made his Premier League debut.

The 24-year-old moved to newly crowned Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen Leverkusen last summer.

Tella confessed he was embarrassed after he was told to leave Arsenal.

“I couldn’t believe it, Arsenal was all I knew from the age of six when I got scouted,” he told VAVEL.

“It was tough because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Maybe stay at Arsenal, try force their hand and make another decision, or if I was to go out on trials. I spoke to my family, I spoke to my agent they said it’s best to go on trials to see what I can do and get out of my comfort zone.”

A two-man robbery gang which allegedly specializes in robbing passengers of their belongings, popularly called one-chance has escaped being burnt alive in Umuahia, Abia State capital, ABN TV reports.

Two One-Chance Robbers Escape Being Set Ablaze As They Receive Merciless Beating

According to sources familiar with their modus operandi, the suspects who operate with tricycles, better known as keke usually hypnotize their victims or threaten them with sharp objects, before robbing them of their belongings.

They are also alleged to engage in phone hacking which gives them access to transfer victims’ money through the banking application stored in their phones.

Luck however ran out of them around the popular Golden Guinea Breweries along Aba road in Umuahia when past victims upon boarding their keke raised alarm, attracting the neighbourhood.

ABN TV gathered that this attracted them a merciless beating, even as their tricycle was fatally destroyed.

Observing that they stood the risk of being set ablaze by the angry mob, the suspect allegedly confessed their crimes and started begging for mercy, a resident said.

However, the intervention of some elders in the crowd saved the suspected robbers from being burnt alive, after they were pounded to pulp.

Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency of Abia State, Hon. Obi Aguocha has extolled the life and time of Chief Sir Appolos Ulonnamefula Ibelegbu (Aha eji aga mba 1 of Afarata Ibeku) who was on Thursday laid to rest at his home town, Umuakaka Nkata, Afarata Ibeku Umuahia North LGA, Abia State.

The lawmaker while paying his last respect described Chief Ibelegbu as a committed Christian, an excellent father figure to many, who also was a good man.

He applauded the late Chief Ibelegbu for tracking birth record of those born in the community, which was manifestly displayed on his wall, tracking record of the genealogy of his family, and where they would be when he is no more.

Hon. Aguocha also eulogised late Ibelegbu for always standing firmly by the truth despite intimidation.

“That truth he stood for is actually what has made me a member of the House of Representatives, he believed in the sanctity of truth, commitment of truth, and I believe the family will continue in that footstep”, he stated.

While praying for his peaceful repose, the House of Representatives member therefore called on the bereaved family to take solace in the exemplary life led by their late father.

Nigeria Can Leverage On Renewables To Industrialize — Hon. Sam Onuigbo

Sponsor of Nigeria’s Climate Change Act and former Member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Sam Onuigbo has stated that renewable energy can provide the energy needed by the country to fully industrialize.

Nigeria Can Leverage On Renewables To Industrialize — Hon. Sam Onuigbo

Onuigbo emphasized this during series of interventions he made during the 14th International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA )Assembly; the IRENA Legislators Forum; Regional Energy Transition Outlooks in Africa : Operational Workshop on Regional Scenarios; World Future Energy Summit hosted by MASDAR, all of which took place between 16-19 April, 2024, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Reiterating that Nigeria has a huge energy market with about 90million underserved people, the former National Lawmaker said that the government has gone ahead to create enabling environments for the flourishing of investments in renewable energy in order to address this huge deficit in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

Elaborating on the concrete steps Nigeria has taken to make this possible, Rep. Onuigbo pointed out that the Constitutional amendment that removed electricity from the Exclusive List to the Concurrent List and the subsequent enactment of the Electricity Act 2023 with provisions for off-grid and mini-grid generation and distribution of power are game changers.

He further stated that the Climate Change Act with its provision for research and development on renewables, Nigeria’s Clean Cooking Policy which seeks to achieve universal clean cooking energy access by 2030, and recent provision of subsidies to support the development and the operation of privately owned and operated solar hybrid mini-grids in unserved and underserved areas courtesy of a US$750m World Bank loan facilitated under the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) project, are also proofs of the country’s commitment to provide fertile grounds for the country to benefit from the global ambition of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030 and consequently industrialize therefrom.

Nigeria is therefore a fertile ground for investments in renewables, he restated.

Sounding a note of caution, the Member representing the South East on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) warned international investors not to repeat the mistakes made by their predecessors during Nigeria’s telecommunications’ sector revolution which saw many of them lose out on the huge market due to poor business calculations and decisions. He thus urged them to take maximum advantage of this opportunity both for the growth of their businesses, and the country’s growth.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates was agog within the 16-20 of April with several international events focused on renewable energy investments and expansion. Investors, innovators, academics, business leaders, heads of multinationals, heads of international organisations, Members of Parliament, representatives of governments, etc., gathered during this period to exchange ideas on how to attain global commitment at COP28 to triple renewable energy by 2030 and thus boost sustainable growth.

Security Expert, Ray Nkemdirim Wants Inclusion Of AI In Fight Against Insecurity
Chief Raymond Nkemdirim

A renowned security expert and former Director of Operations of the Department of State Services (DSS), Chief Ray Nkemdirim, has called for a revolution in the usage of artificial intelligence (AI) in Africa to curb the continent’s rising security challenges.

He made the call at the National Institute for Security Studies Abuja on Tuesday, while addressing participants of Executive Intelligence Management Course 17.

The nine-month course for top-level security chiefs and management staff of strategic agencies, draws participants from Nigeria and other African countries including Ghana, Gambia, Niger, Chad, and Rwanda.

In his paper titled “Artificial Intelligence and Intelligence Gathering: Challenges and Prospects”, Chief Nkemdirim, advised that Nigeria and indeed other African countries should key into the enormous benefits of the fast-expanding global phenomenon of artificial intelligence (AI).

He said that if meaningful progress was to be made in the fight against terrorism, kidnappings, banditry, and other violent crimes, AI was the sure antidote.

He said reliance on traditional security practices and tactics alone will not produce effective results, as criminal elements were now adopting more sophisticated methods to commit crimes.

He therefore enjoined security agencies to be proactive in their operational approaches by adopting AI–driven measures to counter the worsening crime situation.

While thanking Chief Ray Nkemdirim, who holds the traditional title of Ugwumba 1 of Isuikwuato, for the lecture, the commandant of the National Institute for Security Studies, Ayodele Adeleke, promised that his recommendations would be given effect appropriately.
