NNPCL Set Over 2m-bpd Target Increase In Oil Production In 2026

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has set its crude oil production target for 2026 at more than two million barrels per day.

Engr. Akponime Omojevwhe, Head of Field Operations, Eastern Corridor, Project Monitoring Office (PMO) of NNPCL, disclosed this at the monthly stakeholders’ meeting with host communities of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP), organised by Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) in Port Harcourt.

He explained that the 2026 budget projection is 2.80 million barrels per day (mbpd), with a starting benchmark of 1.84 mbpd and a targeted output of 2.06 mbpd. Omojevwhe noted that the TNP is currently producing optimally, attributing the development to the collaboration between communities, stakeholders and PINL.

“I sincerely appreciate all our stakeholders on this corridor because the TNP is green, and that means products are flowing uninterrupted,” he said. “As we draw closer to 2026, we appeal to you not to relent in ensuring our production target continues to rise.”

Omojevwhe emphasized that community cooperation remains fundamental to pipeline security, stressing that no private security outfit can succeed without grassroots support.

“The communities are a vital part of this job,” he said. “If community leaders—chiefs, CDCs, youth presidents, women leaders—do not relay our message to their people, there will be nothing like a green pipeline. We appreciate you and urge you to continue supporting PINL.”

Representing the Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, Edi Julius commended the synergy between communities and PINL, noting its direct contribution to rising national output.

“Without peace in your domains, production cannot increase,” he said. “We are confident that by 2026, Nigeria will hit over two million barrels per day. This will bring more revenue to the government and enable PINL to extend more support to you.”

Dr. Akpos Mezeh, General Manager, Community and Stakeholders Relations at PINL, said the meeting provided an opportunity to assess progress in combating pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft, as well as celebrate community partners for their role in sustaining national economic stability.

He listed major achievements of the year, including deeper security operations across oil and gas infrastructure around the TNP, expanded stakeholder inclusion, empowerment programmes—particularly for women and students—and enhanced grassroots communication through the Town Crier Initiative (TCI). He also highlighted consistent stakeholder engagement, zero illegal bunkering and improved trust between PINL and host communities.

Dr. Mezeh called for stronger collaboration as the company looks ahead to 2026, urging communities to continue protecting national assets and promoting regional prosperity. He also announced Christmas palliatives for the 215 TNP host communities.

Speaking on behalf of the host communities, His Majesty King Philip Osaro Obele urged the Federal Government to increase development projects in the region, especially now that oil output and revenues are rising. He commended PINL for its regular engagement and transparency with the communities.

US Intercepts Nigerian-owned Supertanker Over Alleged Crude Theft

The United States Coast Guard, in collaboration with the US Navy, has intercepted a Nigerian-owned supertanker, Skipper, over allegations of crude oil theft, piracy, and other transnational crimes.

The vessel, a 20-year-old Very Large Crude Carrier, VLCC, with IMO Number 9304667, is reportedly owned and managed by Nigeria-based Thomarose Global Ventures Ltd., though its registered owner is listed as Triton Navigation Corp., headquartered in the Marshall Islands.

Authorities said the tanker was illegally flying the Guyanese flag at the time of its arrest.

In a swift rebuttal, Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department, MARAD, confirmed that Skipper is not on its national ship registry and was using the country’s flag without authorisation.

According to US security sources, the seizure was carried out under American law enforcement authority, with President Donald Trump announcing the operation.

Beyond suspicions of stolen crude, the vessel is also being investigated for allegedly transporting a large consignment of hard drugs and operating within a network backed by suspected Iranian and other Islamist-linked money-laundering financiers.

A check with the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, Abuja, showed that Thomarose is inactive.

Further checks by Vanguard showed that Thomarose’s corporate address is listed as 111 Jakpa Road, Effurun, Warri, Delta State, with CAC registration number 1007876.
However, there are no phone numbers linked to the company.

Reacting to the seizure, the President of the Centre for Marine Surveyors, Nigeria, Engr. Akin Olaniyan, said that if the vessel indeed departed from Nigeria before being intercepted, it would indicate weaknesses in Nigeria’s Port State Control regime.

According to him, “If the vessel emanated from Nigeria, it suggests our Port State Control is practically non-existent. It also means any vessel leaving Nigerian waters may come under stricter scrutiny by Port State Control authorities in other countries. This issue has nothing to do with Nigeria as a country, but with regulatory enforcement.”

Similarly, the National President of Oil and Gas Service Providers Association of Nigeria, OGSPAN, Mazi Colman Obasi, said: “I have never heard that Nigeria has a supertanker and that it is not active in CAC. I don’t even know if stakeholders are aware. Anyway, the government and other agencies can do more.”

Speaking also, President of the Ship Owners Association of Nigeria, SOAN, Otunba Sola Adewumi, noted that he could not comment on the seizure of the vessel as he was yet to receive sufficient details about the circumstances surrounding its arrest.

He appealed for more time to ascertain the vessel’s ownership and registration status.

Similarly, former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Mr. Temisan Omatseye, said he had only just received information about the vessel’s arrest and could not give an informed reaction.

He also stressed the importance of collaboration with federal authorities and international aviation partners to ensure compliance with global standards and best practices.

The newly commissioned Protocol Lounge at Chinåa Achebe International Airport is intended to provide a secure, comfortable, and efficient space for visiting dignitaries, government officials, and high-profile travelers. The facility features dedicated check-ins, executive seating, exclusive waiting areas, and improved security protocols.

Local officials and stakeholders, including the Commissioner for Transportation, Barr. Patricia Igwebuike said the upgraded airport facilities are expected to boost commerce, tourism, and investment in Umueri and the broader Anambra State.

Chinåa Achebe International Airport, located in Umueri, has long been a focal point for the region’s aviation ambitions. The new Protocol Lounge adds to a set of modernization efforts aimed at aligning Anambra State with contemporary international aviation standards.

Bayelsa Deputy Gov Slumps In Office, Dies At 60
Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo

Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, passed on yesterday after collapsing in his office in Yenagoa.

Ewhrudjakpo was said to have slumped around 1:30 p.m. while descending a staircase shortly after a meeting. He was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.

Hospital sources disclosed that he arrived unconscious and was moved to the Emergency Unit before being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and efforts to revive him failed.

His media aide, Doubara Atasi, confirmed the incident but did not provide further details.

Sympathizers stormed the hospital in large numbers after the news broke, forcing security personnel to tighten control around the facility.

Ewhrudjakpo was born on September 5, 1965. He had served as deputy governor since 2020, represented Bayelsa West in the Senate, and previously held the position of Commissioner for Works.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong confirmed the demise of the deputy governor, which it described as inexplicable.

Senator Ewhurudjakpo, 60, an associate of Senator Seriake Dickson, was one of the elected officials, who insisted on remaining in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and refused to defect with Governor Duoye Diri to the All Progressives Congress, APC, recently.

Ewhrudjakpo, once a close political ally of Governor Diri, reportedly fell out with his principal after refusing to follow him in resigning from the PDP on October 15.

Ewhrudjakpo, a key figure in the Seriake Dickson administration, where he served as Commissioner for Works between 2012 and 2019 before he was elected senator for Bayelsa West, had maintained a cordial relationship with Diri throughout their first term and early in their second.

Although Diri insisted that no one would be pressured to defect to the APC, there were plots to impeach Ewhurudjakpo in the House of Assembly. In response, the late deputy governor sued the Assembly over alleged plots to impeach him. The Federal High Court in Abuja, on October 27 restrained the Assembly from proceeding with the impeachment move.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Meribole as the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

This follows the Governor’s approval for the substantive SSG, Professor Kenneth Kalu (FCA), to proceed on a leave of absence to attend to urgent personal matters.

Dr. Meribole, who currently serves as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects, will officially assume duties as Acting SSG on January 1, 2026.

According to the statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, a formal handover process has been scheduled to begin Monday, December 15, 2025. During this period, Professor Kalu and Dr. Meribole will work collaboratively to ensure a smooth, coordinated, and uninterrupted transition in government operations.

A trained medical doctor and seasoned public administrator, Dr. Meribole brings decades of high-level experience to his new role. He retired as Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, before joining the Otti administration, where he has since contributed significantly to project execution and strategic development planning.

His appointment is widely viewed as an endorsement of his capacity, discipline, and alignment with Governor Otti’s developmental vision for Abia State.

Governor Otti, while announcing the transition, expressed profound appreciation to Professor Kenneth Kalu for his outstanding service, loyalty, and commitment to the progress and transformation of Abia State.

The Ohafia Improvement Union (OIU) has officially confirmed Sunday, December 28, 2025, as the date for its National Elections, describing the exercise as a critical step toward restoring constitutional order and democratic leadership within the Union.

The confirmation was contained in a formal announcement issued by the Forum of Branch Presidents and Presidents-General of Ohafia Village Unions, who stated that the election presents a historic opportunity to reposition the Union for legitimacy, progress, and accountability.

According to the Forum, all eligible members of the Union, both at home and in the diaspora, are encouraged to participate actively in the electoral process, which they assured will be transparent, credible, and inclusive.

The Forum further disclosed that only delegates duly authenticated by OIU Branch Presidents and Village Presidents-General will be allowed to take part in the election, emphasizing that the measure is aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the process. Members were also cautioned to disregard any misinformation suggesting alternative election dates, as December 28 remains the officially sanctioned date.

To ensure transparency, the Forum pledged that observers from all branches and villages would be present during the election, alongside the use of a verified voters’ register.

Calling for calm and cooperation, the leadership urged Ndi Ohafia to avoid actions capable of undermining the process, stressing that peace, unity, and collective responsibility are essential to achieving a successful outcome.

Describing December 28 as Ohafia’s day of constitutional rebirth, the Forum appealed to members to come out in large numbers, vote conscientiously, and contribute to building a stronger and more united Ohafia.

The announcement was jointly issued by the Forum of Branch Presidents and Presidents-General of Ohafia Village Unions.
