Ebem Ohafia To Hold Crucial Interdenominational Prayer Meeting Today

The people of Ebem Ohafia in Ohafia LGA of Abia state has concluded arrangements to hold an important interdenominational prayer meeting in their community.

The spiritual exercise coming up today Monday, November 14, 2022 is organised by the Ohafia Traditional Rulers’ Council in conjunction with the Ezie Ogo and Ebem-in-Council.

A release signed by Chief Kalu Iroha, Palace Secretary on behalf of Ezieogo Ebem Ohafia Council of Chiefs and Elders said the army will also be in attendance.

The presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, says Nigeria has enough money to take care of every of its citizens.

He said this while answering questions on indiscriminate borrowing which has set back the country’s economy in recent years during The People’s Townhall 2023, a live programme organised by Channels Television in Abuja on Sunday evening.

The former Kano State governor who said he repaid all debts he met as governor in Kano without borrowing, boasted of replicating same at the federal level.

He said, “There is so much money in this country, anybody who says there is no money either he doesn’t know or he wants to be mischievous. There is enough money to take care of each one of us in this country; we have done it in Kano in 1999 to 2003, we met a lot of debts, we paid the debts after eight years. When I went back I met debts of hundreds of millions of US dollars, and we settled them before I left in 2015.

“I’m talking of borrowing money either from banks or individuals, we have never borrowed. So I believe that that can be replicated to a very large extent at national level. I will not say I will not borrow but if they are important things pay themselves, not to borrow to pay salaries, handle current expenditure and so on, I believe there is even more than enough money in this country to handle that.”

Kwankwaso also said that if elected president he would negotiate with Nigeria’s creditors to reschedule payment of debts so that government can have money to take care of other things.

“The situation as we are being told now is that whatever we are getting as our resources, as our money in this country is not even enough to service our debt, I think that is what we have heard. Now the issue is that any responsible government day one will sit down with all the people, creditors and see how they can be rescheduled, there has to be negotiation.

“You cannot be collecting all your resources and paying interest to the creditors, there has to be arrangement to make sure that you are given a breathing space so that you can start bringing in the good things that are necessary for the country to move forward,” he added.

Bandits Abduct Spare Parts Dealer In Sokoto

A N10 million ransom is being demanded for the release of the remains of one Obadiah Ibrahim, who was kidnapped in early October in Sabon Gaya, on his way back from Abuja to Kaduna.

A family member of the victim, Kefas Obadiah, said the bandits had earlier collected N3 million as ransom.

He said his brother died on Monday, but it was on Thursday that his death was announced to the family.

“The bandits refused to release my brother while he was kidnapped, even after they collected N3 million as ransom. My brother’s name is Obadiah Ibrahim. He was kidnapped in early October in Sabon Gaya, on his way back from Abuja to Kaduna.”

“Although I wasn’t the one communicating with the bandits. There was a negotiator. Earlier the bandits demanded N200 million and later settled for N3 million plus. They said we should bring the money. After giving them the ransom they told us the money was for their foodstuffs which had finished, and that we should bring N15 million.

“They later came down to N5 million and 3 motorbikes and later collected one bike. After collecting a bike we didn’t hear from them again. We tried to communicate with them but unfortunately, we were unable.

“Then, on Thursday, when the negotiator called them, they said our brother is dead. We thought they were joking. When we continued, they threatened to track the caller and come for him if he did not stop calling their line.

“They said their men were arrested by police, tied to a tree and killed. So they vented their anger too on our brother because of what the police did to their brother.

“Ibrahim had died on Monday and they informed us on Thursday. We asked for his corpse and they said we should pay them N10m if we want his corpse they’ll not work for us free of charge. They swore that if we bring the money they’ll release the corpse in three days,” he said.

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Sunday returned to Abuja from London after a routine two-week medical check-up.

Buhari’s jet landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, a few minutes ago.

Buhari left for London on October 31, 2022, after attending a security council meeting and a Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Owerri, Imo State.

According to a tweet by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari was expected back in the country in the “second week of November.”

The trip was one of the several medical trips the President had embarked on since assuming office in 2015; spending at least 212 days abroad.

On February 5, 2016, eight months after being sworn in, the President took his first medical trip to London, the United Kingdom, spending six days between February 5 and 10.

Buhari’s second medical trip would follow four months later on June 6, 2016.

He spent 10 days treating an ear infection after which he rested for three extra days before returning on June 19, 2016.

On January 19, 2017, the President embarked on his second-longest medical trip. Before leaving, however, he wrote to the Saraki-led Senate revealing his plan to travel to London on a 10-day vacation.

In the letter, Buhari said he would hand over to his Vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. Though the medical holiday was due to commence on January 23, 2017, Buhari left Abuja the same day.

On March 10, 2017, he returned to the country. The trip lasted 50 days.

In May of the same year, barely two months after his last trip, the president departed for London for his longest medical pilgrimage lasting 104 days.

NANS Demands FG’s Intervention Into Delayed N77,000 NYSC Allowance

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, General Muhammad Fadah, has cautioned corps members to be security conscious and to discharge their electoral assignments with integrity.

The NYSC boss gave the advice while addressing the 2022 Batch ‘C’ corps members at the orientation camps in Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.

In a statement signed by the Director Press and Public Relations of the NYSC, Eddy Megwa, Fadah warned the corps members against night travel, lone travel, accepting free rides from strangers, and other risky engagements.

He also warned the members against the misuse of social media, and advised them to instead, use it in promoting national unity and integration.

While hinting at their electoral assignments, General Fadah told the corps members to ensure a high sense of responsibility in discharging duties.

“Please play according to the rules of the game; abide by the electoral laws, and do not allow yourself to be used by unpatriotic elements to compromise the credibility of the election,” he said.

In his remarks, the NYSC Zamfara State Coordinator, Muhammad Namalam Taura, said the 397 corps members registered in the Camp were well-behaved.

The Sokoto State Coordinator, Muhammad Nakamba, while welcoming the DG, informed him that camp activities were going on smoothly.

Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, the Coordinator, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammad, said all the course participants were subjected to the COVID-19 test, which was conducted by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control officials, in collaboration with the NYSC corps medical personnel.

Shadow Govt: Court Asked To Restrict Utomi, Associates From Holding Rallies

Foremost political economist, Professor Pat Utomi has called for the disqualification of any candidate found missing at the election debates.

Utomi made this call while addressing journalists in Abuja during the weekend.

He also asked the Nigerian electorates to use their power to vote against candidates who fail to make themselves available for the debate.

Utomi explained that debates provide the electorates with an opportunity to assess the plans and capacity of candidates before the elections.

He said, “The fortunes of South Korea were turned around because the electoral commission was so despondent about the quality of their politics that they decided that the thing that should matter the most for elections are debates between candidates,” he said.

“So it became entrenched in the conventions of South Korean politics. Before anybody goes to an election, they would have had a series of debates on the streets, in town halls, on television to define South Korean elections.

“Once debates came to define elections, moneybags and all kinds of criminals and charlatans ran away and their electoral process became one of a sustained, enormously developed country.”

“So any politician that refuses to make this fundamental contribution to the democratic process should be considered unfit, unable and unwilling to participate in the democratic process,” he said.

According to Utomi, if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not have the courage to disqualify such a candidate, the electorates should do so on election day.

Recall that INEC had fixed February 25 as the date for the presidential and national assembly elections. The governorship and state assembly elections will are expected to hold on March 11, 2023.

The electoral body had earlier fixed September 28 for the formal commencement of the presidential campaigns.

Man Kidnaps Own Son, Demands N182,000 Ransom From Wife

Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations, DCI, says it has rescued an 8-yr-old boy who was kidnapped by his father on November 12 and used to demand for a ransom of Sh50,000 from his wife.

A distraught mother of the boy, Everline Nandera who filed a report at Embakasi police station said the incident occured after a domestic disagreement with the father identified as Nemwel Ondari.

“Nandera told detectives that she had left their home in Embakasi’s Tel Aviv area at the crack of dawn, headed for Muthurwa market.” A statement read

“But upon coming back at around 9:20am, she found her husband and son missing. A note had been left behind by the husband demanding for a ransom of Sh50,000, for the release of the boy.

“In the note, the man also warned his wife that he would kill the boy using a kitchen knife which he had carried, should she try any monkey business.

“Immediately the woman filled her report at Embakasi police station, detectives from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) based at DCI Nairobi area were assembled and a manhunt for the suspect was launched.

“The detectives assisted by their Embakasi counterparts traced the suspect and arrested him at the NMS Green Park matatu terminus off Haile Sellasie avenue, a few hours later.

“The detectives established that the couple had a heated argument last night and after Everline left early in the morning for Muthurwa to fend for her family, the man packed his clothes and a kitchen knife in two bags, before taking off with the innocent boy.

“The detectives pounced on the man at around 4pm, as he eagerly waited for the ransom to be deposited into his Mpesa account.

“Mother and child were reunited as the man was escorted to Embakasi police station, where he is cooling his heels awaiting arraignment.”

Speaking on Saturday at the burial ceremony of Grace Akeredolu, mother of Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo, in Owo, Tinubu said the APC would do better to improve the lives of Nigerians.

“Thank God we are alive. There might be weaknesses and inadequacies in expectations. No one wants failure,” the former governor of Lagos said.

“You cannot give up on us. We will do better. We will contribute to the improvement you might want.”

The presidential candidate said Akeredolu’s mother had a great legacy.

“We will contribute to the improvement you might want. Mama has given us the grace of the day that she will not be the one to bury us,” he said.

“She had the greatest legacy of a life full of achievements.”

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged members of the proscribed secessionist group, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign in the South-East.

This is as Kanu in a Friday statement by his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, urged his followers to be ‘circumspect’ because ‘the enemies were relentlessly exploiting vulnerable means to blackmail IPOB.’

Ohanaeze’s spokesperson, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, in an interview with our correspondent, also stated that some elders in the South-East led by the leader of Ohanaeze, Prof George Obiozor, were engaging with President Muhammadu Buhari to seek Kanu’s release.

He also begged IPOB members not to ruin the chances of the South-East in the pursuit of what he described as legitimate rights.

Some members of IPOB protested in Aba, Abia State, over the non-release Kanu by the Federal Government recently.

The protesters vowed not to allow the 2023 election to be held in the South-East if Kanu was not released and Biafra granted.

They urged Nigeria to forget the 2023 election in the region “if our leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is still in DSS custody.”

Omoniyi Bows Out As ANAN FCT 1 Chairman

After two years of fruitful sojourn as the chairman of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN FCT 1 Abuja branch, Wahab Shina Omoniyi on Saturday officially took his exit.

He handed over mantle of leadership to his successor, Shavah Elisha Andrew who emerged through a virtual electioneering exercise at Merit House Maitama Abuja.

Elected at the peak of COVID-19 in 2020, Omoniyi had during his inaugural speech promised to ensure judicious use of the branch’s resources which dwindled on the effect of the pandemic, build on the existing corporate social responsibility template, train and build capacity of members.

He has attracted commendations for the sterling leadership he has demonstrated since he took over from his predecessor, Petu Joyce.

Under his leadership, for the first time in the history of branches, ANAN FCT 1 Abuja introduced an electronic payment platform which reduces the bottlenecks associated with paying annual and other dues among members. It has also helped in enhancing transparency and prudence in the administration of finances of the branch.

It is on the account of these and more that he recently emerged the North Central Zonal chairman of the association covering, covering FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Kwara and Niger states.

Now an immediate past chairman, IPC he called on the new exco to put up a mechanism in place to ensure that all parties are genuinely reconciled to douse antagonism generated by the win and otherwise of the election.

He also supervised a flawless virtual voting exercise where over 330 members participated, same process that brought him to power.

“I advise the new EXCO to always carry out a proper consultation in the affairs of things and to carry everybody along, to see how the interest of all will be the watch word instead of self” he said.

Shavah Elisha Andrew defeated Barde Victoria Bulus with 241 votes to 136 votes.

Other officials elected include, vice chairman Salamatu Yahaya Afegbua, Secretary General Oyedele John Kehinde,Treasurer Caroline Etu Omonokhua, Assistant Secretary Ogunsola Akintunde, Financial Secretary Augustine Doris Oluchukwu, Publicity/Welfare Secretary Fyada Edward Pwakleno, and Ex-officio 2 Allan Tsaku

The electoral committee chairman and a member of council in charge of branches and benevolence, Ibrahim Makut applauded tbe branch for remaining united and resolute as a pace-setter branch, urging the new leadership to carry everyone along.
