You Fought Obasanjo When You Were Vice President, Tinubu Accuses Atiku

Atiku Has Filed Case Against Tinubu In US – Aide
President Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar

Bola Tinubu has accused Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of fighting his boss when he served as Nigeria’s vice president.

Atiku, the PDP presidential candidate, was vice president under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration between 1999 and 2007.

But speaking during the flag-off of the Delta All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign in Warri on Saturday, the party’s presidential candidate claimed Atiku fought Obasanjo during their tenure.

“Our rivals do not have shame. They are fighting in the public, how can they think of governance?” the former Lagos State governor told the gathering.

“When Atiku was there, he was fighting his boss in public. They were telling us how they spent money to buy cars for their girlfriends. Do they have shame? Will you vote for them again?”

He told the crowd of supporters that the APC will deliver its promises to Nigerians if the party wins next year’s elections as he redoubled his accusation that the PDP failed the country.

“I will commit to your progress and fulfill all the promises made to you. You are the future of this country and the heart and soul of Nigeria,” Tinubu added.

“Your environment is as important as gold mining. Your health, welfare, and dream will be realised for a stable and prosperous Nigeria.”

Aside from Tinubu, several chieftains of the APC attended the event in the oil-rich city. Some of them include the party’s vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima; Senate President Ahmed Lawan; Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State; Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State; the Deputy National Chairman of the party (South), Emma Eneukwu and a former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole among others.

2023 Elections: Fear Grips Politicians Over Naira Redesign

2023 Elections: Fear Grips Politicians Over Naira Redesign

There are indications that the move by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to redesign N200, N500, and N1,000 Naira notes may have effects on the forthcoming general elections.

ABN TV recalls that the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele had on October 26, announced the decision of the apex bank to redesign N200, N500, and N1000 notes.

According to Emefiele, the new design will be effective from mid-December 2022, urging bank customers to begin depositing the old Naira notes.

The CBN governor said the apex bank had become concerned over some daunting challenges in the management of the existing banknotes in circulation, especially those outside the banking system, noting that such portended some consequences for the integrity of the CBN and the country.

ABN TV reports that the development had triggered controversies from concerned Nigerians across the country, as many kicked against the move, claiming that it would cause more harm than good, while others lauded the decision of the CBN.

Some political and religious leaders, including the controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmed Gumi had claimed that a good number of Nigerians, especially the rural dwellers depend on cash transactions, warning that any move that can cause more cash crunch will resort to a disaster for the nation.

However, President Muhammadu Buhari, on October 30, voiced his support for the decision of the CBN, noting that the country would gain a lot through the new initiative, especially its impact on illicit monies.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari said reasons given to him by the CBN convinced him that “the economy stands to benefit from reduction in inflation, currency counterfeiting, and the excess cash currently in circulation.”

The President stated that they did not consider the period of three months for the change to the new notes as being short.

Meanwhile, some Nigerians, who spoke with our correspondent on Saturday in Abuja, expressed optimism that the development would have a good effect on the conduct of the 2023 general elections.

According to them, plans by some political bigwigs who may have stashed billions of Naira in their various houses to buy votes in 2023 have been crippled.

An activist, Mr Kenneth Monday, who was one of those that organised the EndSARS protest in Abuja in 2020, told our correspondent that those kicking against the move by the apex bank are suspects that should be placed under watch.

He said, “They turned their houses to banks because the money was acquired illegally. Most of them are crying right now. Because they know that the money in their possession cannot be accounted for and the bank can’t trace it, they wanted to use it to buy votes as usual.

“With the CBN move, it is either you go to the bank and deposit the ill-gotten money, or the cash becomes useless. This will be good for the coming elections because they may not be able to get all the cash to execute their evil plans again.”

ABN TV recalls that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday revealed that several serving governors have been placed under watch over stashed Naira notes.

Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Abdulrasheed Bawa, who made this known while fielding questions from reporters after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, had earlier raised an alarm that three governors who stashed money in their Abuja houses were planning to pay workers with cash.

Also speaking with our correspondent, a Chieftain of the Labour Party in Abuja who pleaded not to be mentioned, claimed that the move by the CBN would affect some presidential candidates who had been accused of financial crimes.

“The CBN has rendered some Bullion Vans empty. It was the Bullion Van that they used to rig previous elections that brought these bad leaders into power.

“If the Federal Government really means this Naira issue, some presidential candidates that we all know, will have to find another alternative to rig the election because they may not have enough cash to be carried in Bullion Van from one polling until to another as usual.

“Everything happening in the country right now shows that God will be involved in the 2023 elections. Who knows, Buhari may be doing these to ensure that the election is free and fair. We are taking back our country”.

Similarly, a bank source told ABN TV that some politicians who believe in manipulating elections with the use of cash may find it difficult in the next election.

According to him, there is a limit to how much cash withdrawal an individual can make in a day.

He said, “If the government actually wants to do things the right way, some of those election riggers who use cash, may find it difficult in the next election.

“All withdrawals can be monitored through the BVN. There is a limit to how much can be withdrawn from both individual and corporate accounts. If the issue of stashing Naira notes must come to an end, the CBN and the EFCC have more work to do”.

We Cannot Release Nnamdi Kanu Now, FG Gives Reason

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday, said the legal team of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu is prepared to answer the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami in any law court.

IPOB made the remark while noting that its leader would continue to win against Malami and the federal government.

IPOB was reacting to the Federal High Court in Abuja’s ruling that adjourned Kanu’s trial indefinitely.

Justice Binta Nyako adjourned the trial indefinitely, pending the resolution of the Federal Government’s appeal against the October 13 judgment of the Court of Appeal that discharged Kanu of the terrorism charges.

The Federal Government’s appeal seeking a reversal of the Court of Appeal judgment is pending before the Supreme Court.

Reacting, IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, commended Kanu’s counsels, Ifeanyi Ejiofor and Mike Ozekhome, for their efforts.

A statement by Powerful reads: “We the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably lead by the Prophet, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU wish to recognize the high level of preparedness demonstrated by our legal team in answering the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice of Nigeria, Abubakar Malami wherever he calls Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB in the Nigeria court system.

“Both the Lead Counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, and Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s most trusted, reported that the judge told Malami and his goons that both the first case and the second undocumented case are adjourned to await the hearing and final determination of the highest court of the land, the Supreme Court during their last appearance at Hon. Justice Binta Nyako’s High Court, Abuja on Monday, November 14, 2022.

“We also recognize that these two leaders work with a whole host of brilliant lawyers who work tirelessly behind the scenes and upfront in the courts to defend our leader and our movement.

“Malami was further admonished by the court that the former case and even the new one have both been prohibited from being heard for the trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in any court.

“So, we the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) recognize these successes and winnings and want to congratulate our legal team for their act of bravery in the face of Nigeria government’s intimidation and threats. We recognize the legal team for their continued doggedness in their fight with the monster called Nigeria.”

Donald Trump Back On Twitter

The Twitter account of former United States President, Donald Trump, has been reinstated on the social media platform.

Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, had set up a poll on Saturday to ask users on the platform whether the former president should be allowed back on the app or not.

Over 15 million users participated in the poll with a narrow majority of 52 percent voting for the reinstatement of the former US president.

“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated,” Musk tweeted of the former US president’s account, which was banned last year after a mob of his supporters attacked the US Capitol.

Trump’s Twitter account was permanently suspended from the platform in January 2021, after he was accused of inciting violence through his tweets following the Capitol Hill riots and was termed a “risk.”

Twitter Incorporated under former owner, Jack Dorsey, had written in a statement, “After close review of recent tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Trump’s reinstatement on the social media platform comes days after he announced his plan to run for the US presidency in 2024.

Tinubu’s Academic Records More Straightforward Than Peter Obi’s – Reno Omokri

Peter Obi Has Lost Yoruba Votes For Mocking Tinubu – Reno Omokri

A former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Pastor Reno Omokri, has come hard on the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi.

Omokri who is an ardent supporter of Alhaji  Atiku Abubakar, of the PDP, noted that the academic records of the APC candidate, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, was more straightforward than Obi’s school records.

Reno’s submission came barely 12 hours after Peter Obi denied saying that the former governor of Rivers state, Peter Odili was his classmate in high school.

Recall that Obi had during a project commissioning event organised by Nyesom Wike in Rivers opined that, “Peter Odili was my senior at (CKC); we played football together. If Odili is not able to play, just know we have lost that day.

Fact-checking his statement, critics took to their social media platforms to condemn him. They said Odili was born in 1948 and graduated from high school in 1967, while Obi was admitted into CKC in 1973 and graduated in 1978.

They noted that Obi couldn’t have been Odili’s schoolmate, following the date Odili graduated (1967) and when Peter Obi gained admission (1973).

In his reaction, Obi in a statement sent to Vanguard stated that he was misinterpreted, noting that he never said Odili was his classmate, rather he said that Odili was a great footballer in his school.

His words: “My remarks when I visited Port Harcourt have been wrongly interpreted by some people. The former Governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili and I, are among other prominent Nigerians that schooled in Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha, and we remain alumni of the school.

“I did not say that former Governor Odili was my classmate, rather I said that he was a great footballer in my school, and we all cherished and had good memories of his football exploits when we got into the school.

“I was in CKC from 1973 to 1978 and Dr Peter Odili had graduated before I got into the school. He was such a fabulous footballer whose image still loomed large even in our time, especially considering the fact that my Primary School was very close to CKC.

“The Primary Schools that I attended, Santa Maria School/Holy Trinity School, were both owned by the same Catholic Church that owned Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha. In fact, both Primary Schools were feeder schools to CKC, and a large number of pupils who passed through the schools ended up in CKC for secondary education.”

Irked with Obi’s response, Omokri via his Twitter handle said: “Soludo was right about them. They are a mob. They have no head, and as such, can’t reason. And that Tinubu did not attend Chicago State University is an obvious lie. I should know. I believed the lie and wasted $4000 plus flying to Chicago to investigate in person!

“And now, Peter Obi has vindicated me. Where are all those who spun tales about the civil war delaying Odili? Obi lied. He has now come out as usual, again, to blame it on misinterpretation. But what he said was clear. He claimed he met Odili at CKC, which is a lie.

“Obi was captured on video saying Odili was his senior at CKC. He also said he and Odili played ball together. Both claims were false. And Obi waited until we unearthed proof from Dr. Odili’s biography before fessing up to his lie. He was forced to come contrite!

“Obi and his Obidients were too busy trying to fault Tinubu’s claims of graduating from Chicago State University that they forgot to put their Odili lie together. Tinubu’s academic record is more straightforward than Obi’s school records!

“Again, I am not sure that so-called Southwest College certificate floating around really nails Tinubu. Tinubu actually went to Richard J. Daley College before attending Chicago State University. Stay focused!

“If you say he didn’t attend or graduate from Chicago State University, you will have egg on your face. Because he did. He Actually Attended and Graduated From Chicago State University.”

President Buhari To Officiate First Oil Drill In Northern Nigeria

Again, APC Governors Meet Over President Buhari’s Successor
President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari will, on Tuesday, supervise the first oil drill in oil fields located in Bauchi and Gombe States.

The ground-breaking ceremony of the Kolmani Oil Prospecting Lease (OPL) 809 and 810 at the Kolmani field site will be the first oil drilling in Northern Nigeria.

Oil was discovered in commercial volume in the region about two years ago.

While Nigeria is already exploring crude oil in the southern Niger Delta, this exploration up north will be the first after an attempt in the Borno region was halted by insecurity.

NNPC Limited since 2016, launched a search for oil in some Northern states which led to the discovery of the oil in commercial quantity in Bauchi, Gombe, Borno and Niger States.

According to officials at NNPC Ltd, the oil field in Bauchi and Gombe axis will developed by Sterling Global Oil, New Nigeria Development Commission (NNDC) and NNPC Limited.

“The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, 22nd November and will be attended by Mr. President himself together with most of his cabinet members including the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva,” an official told Daily Trust.

NNPC Ltd has continually spent on frontier exploration as captured in its FAAC report.

With the new Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2022, funding for frontier exploration has risen to 30 per cent, which means the reformer NNPC Ltd would have more fund to develop oil fields in Nigeria.

At the moment, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) said crude oil reserve is at 37 billion barrels.

Reports said the Kolmani fields holds over a billion crude oil reserve, which could significantly raise Nigeria’s oil reserve that has not grown in 10 years.

The oil discovery in the north is coming at a time when crude oil production in the south has dropped to about 1.2 million barrels per day mainly due to oil theft and vandalism.

Oil production in the north could be a backup to shore up revenue for Nigeria as it witnesses huge budget deficit so far, experts say.

2023: Nigerians Should Not Be Allowed To Fall Into Wrong Hands, Fayemi Cautions

0

As Nigeria prepare for the 2023 general elections, the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has warned that the country should not be allowed to fall into wrong hands.

Fayemi, who gave the warning while playing host to State Publicity Secretaries of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in the South West zone of the country, said Nigerians should do everything possible to ensure that the nation continues its journey along the path of stability, prosperity and greatness.

Fayemi, who made history as the first governor to handover to a successor in Ekiti State, assured that he was ready to be at the forefront of campaigns to ensure victory for the candidates of his party in the 2023 general election.

The former Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum said, “as a progressive party, populated by resourceful and passionate patriots, we must ensure that no stone is left unturned to mobilize support for our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is clearly the best among the pack of those seeking to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in office come May 2023”.

“We have the wherewithal to run a successful campaign for our presidential and other candidates. The presidential election, in particular, is ours to lose.”

Earlier, the State Publicity Secretaries described Fayemi as an Emeritus Governor who served both his state and country meritoriously.

The team of publicists urged the ex-Ekiti helmsman not to relent in giving more of himself to Nigeria and humanity as a whole, despite his serving out his two-term as a governor as statutorily required.

They described as patriotic and statesmanlike the decision of the ex-governor to drop his ambition to rule the country, and pulled his political weight behind Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who eventually emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.

It would be recalled that the former minister of solid minerals made a surprise withdrawal from the presidential primary of the APC, and declared support for Senator Tinubu, and has since been working assiduously to ensure his (Tinubu’s) victory at the 2023 presidential poll.

Highpoint of the courtesy visit was the proclamation of the immediate past Ekiti State helmsman as an Emeritus Governor on account of his high-profile stewardship, characterised by numerous achievements and enviable record of service to the country.

The party publicists at the meeting included Hons Tunde Oladunjoye (Ogun), Segun Dipe (Ekiti), Alex Kalejaye (Ondo), Adunola Oyewole (Osun), Olawale Sadare (Oyo) while Seye Oladejo (Lagos) was unavoidably absent.

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has earned a law degree at Baze University, Abuja, ABN TV reports.

At the 9th Convocation Ceremony of the school today, Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, was awarded a Bachelor of Law, LL.B Degree. This feat is coming 35 years after the prolific politician earned his first degree in English Literature from the University of Port Harcourt.

Baze University also graduated 503 other students in various fields of study, having not only successfully passed their examinations but also found worthy in learning and character by the authorities of the school.

Amaechi had his early education at St Theresa’s Primary School from 1970 to 1976. He earned his West African Senior School Certificate in 1982 after attending Government Secondary School Okolobiri.

Amaechi received a Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours) in English Studies and Literature from the University of Port Harcourt in 1987, where he was the President of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS).

He completed the mandatory National Youth Service Corps in 1988, and thereafter joined Pamo Clinics and Hospitals Limited owned by Peter Odili, where he worked until 1992.

No Work, No Pay Policy Should Begin With Buhari — Sowore

0

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, while speaking on the issues between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, said the ‘no work, no pay’ policy reportedly enforced on the lecturers ought to be applicable to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Sowore, who spoke at the presidential town hall organised by Daria Media and Cabal Entertainment on Friday evening, insisted that if the FG must enforce the ‘no work, no pay’ policy, the enforcement must start from Buhari because he barely worked.

While fielding a question on the government’s insistence on enforcing the policy on ASUU, who embarked on strike for eight months, and how he could handle it differently, Sowore maintained that Nigerian workers must be paid when their industrial action was based on a just course.

Sowore said, “When the strike is just, you will have to pay the strikers. They didn’t want to do this, it was the government that forced them into it.

“If you want to start the enforcement of not paying the people who are not working, I think the President should be number one because he barely works. And the truth is that these are the things that escalate the problems. You can’t keep escalating the problems by engaging in the things that made them.

“Our higher institutions are too important to be played with the technical part of laws. Let’s put the money they asked for. They are specific about how much they want. Let’s find the money and give it to them. Their demands have been the same since the 1990s.”

The AAC standard bearer maintained that education was too important and even though it could be said that education was expensive, it was not as expensive as it was seen compared to its importance in the society.

ASUU had gone on strike on February 14, 2022, over the government’s alleged failure to meet its demands, including improved funding for government-owned tertiary institutions in the country.

The strike, which lasted for eight months ended on October 14, but while the lecturers expected the government to pay them for the period they were on strike, the government insisted on enforcing the ‘No work, no pay’ policy, hence, the lecturers were paid half salary for October.

Following this, ASUU branches had been protesting the half-pay.

World Cup: Sen. Kalu Condemns Ban In Sale Of Alcohol Beverage In Qatar Stadiums
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu

A sports enthusiast, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has condemned the directive banning the sale of alcohol around stadiums in Qatar during the World Cup 2022 tournament.

The Chief Whip of the Senate and a former Abia governor appealed to authorities in Qatar to consider the impact of the ban upon those who follow Soccer with great passion, adding that soccer is secular, and knows no religion, culture, or tribe.

In a statement on Saturday personally endorsed by Sen. Kalu expressed concern that the visiting fans who will be flying in from all over the world will be disappointed at the policy.

He said, “The visiting fans will be disappointed that they can’t watch the beautiful game with a can of Budweiser, Heineken or Guinness at hand.

“Having signed a $75m sponsorship agreement with FIFA, Budweiser will not take this major breach of contract for granted. It could also have a negative impact on developing countries in the future as regards bidding for host of World Cup.

“Qatar should reconsider their decision and fulfill its promises to visiting fans on cultural issues. There is an international standard on Football and having access to alcohol in the stadium is one of them. It’s an entertainment and entertainment is whole, not in part.”
