“The bubble blew recently when my mother-in-law caught me having sex with my sister-in-law. I killed her because she threatened to tell everyone. A man saw me while I was killing her, so I silenced him also.”

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has officially endorsed the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the 2023 general elections.

Ohanaeze said Obi represented “Nigerian conscience, moral probity, generational hope, redemption epiphany, and above all, the Igbo collective unconscious.”

The Igbo body, which stated this in a statement on Sunday titled, ‘2023: On SMBLF Position We Stand,’ signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, noted that the Labour Party’s candidate had filled what could have been a sad gap if he had not been on the ballot.

The statement said, “In the first place, going by the principles of zoning and rotation of power in Nigeria, which have been in existence since 1999, it is the turn of the South East of Nigeria to produce the president in 2023.

“Second, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has canvassed to various eminent persons in Nigeria, seeking their support for the presidency in the South East come 2023. We are delighted by the responses from various groups and highly placed patriotic Nigerians.

“Third, Ohanaeze works in collaboration with the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), comprising the Afenifere, PANDEF, Middle Belt Leaders, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by an elder statesman, Chief E. K. Clarke. The group, in its quest for Nigerian unity, peace, and sustainable national development, has endorsed Mr Peter Obi as its candidate for the 2023 general elections.”

It added, “On the other hand, Ohanaeze brought a commodity to the market, and now the world is clamouring for it. We are rather excited, happy, and fulfilled that Nigeria is now in full possession of the commodity.”

Ohanaeze stated that it endorsed Obi not only based on equity and justice but also on “merit, competence, a track record of accomplishments, and the veritable ideas that Obi espouses for a better Nigeria.”

The apex Igbo body noted that despite concerns that Labour Party had no structure, the Obidient Movement was “a massive disruptive reaction against the deplorable Nigerian pathologies.”

“People use the Obi phenomenon to express dissatisfaction with the status quo. It is a revolt against injustice, poverty, unemployment, corruption, and all other forms of vicious circles that have become the trademark of Nigeria. In other words, every revolution is a structural change,” the group added.

A splinter group within the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has emerged.

Known as New Afenifere, leaders of the group met Presidential Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Lagos on Sunday and threw their weight behind him.

The division within the camp of Afenifere deepened after the group purportedly endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

But the Acting Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, is backing the candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi.

In a twist to the division in the Pan-Yoruba group, the New Afenifere announced its support for Kwankwaso on Sunday.

The Coordinator of New Afenifere, Comrade Ajibade Adeyeye, stressed that his group chose to identify with the NNPP presidential candidate because of his track record.

“The new Afenifere hereby states that we are concerned socio political umbrella known as new Afenifere and I dare say we have decided to take our future into our hands to prepare for the upcoming 2023 election.”

“We have called on our elder statesmen not to impose on us anymore but to allow us to choose our preferred presidential candidate because we believe we are old enough to make decision for ourselves and for our future.

“So, on behalf of the New Afenifere, we have decided to forge ahead and endorse the candidature of senator, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, together with his running mate, Bishop Isaac Idahosa to see toward a new Nigeria.”

The NNPP presidential candidate who welcomed the endorsement promised to run an inclusive governance, stressing his party would salvage the country.

He said, “Let me on behalf of the members of our party thank the leadership of the New Afenifere, for finding us worthy of this endorsement. I am not surprised that these young men have decided to endorse us because even in Kano, North West, South, we have young men and women who are supporting this course.

“I believe NNPP is for the young people, world and everybody, so I want to thank you for the foresight and for doing the right thing and I want to assure you that our party will carry each and everyone along of you at national level, zone, state and even at grassroots.

“Everybody knows today where we are in this country, the challenges that we have really have to do with the type of leadership that we had right from 1999 till date and that is why we felt new ideas, new thinking must come in for us to change the status quo.

“The two parties have failed in our opinion. PDP was the first to fail, then we thought another progressive party in the name of APC will save this country but many people are of the opinion that even PDP was better than the APC because of where we found ourselves in term of security, economy, dilapidated infrastructure and so on.

“Our young men can not go to school, either because of the strike, insecurity or money to buy forms or to maintain themselves in schools but our party has come out to ensure that every child have access to education, not minding it economic status. I thank you for creating time, and I want to assure you that we will work together in the south west and in Nigeria.”

The Twitter account of former United States President, Donald Trump, has being reinstated on the social media platform.

Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, had set up a poll on Saturday to ask users on the platform whether the former president should be allowed back on the app or not.

Over 15 million users participated in the poll with a narrow majority of 52 percent voting for the reinstatement of the former US president.

“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated,” Musk tweeted of the former US president’s account, which was banned last year after a mob of his supporters attacked the US Capitol.

Trump’s Twitter account was permanently suspended from the platform in January 2021, after he was accused of inciting violence through his tweets following the Capitol Hill riots and was termed a “risk.”

Twitter Incorporated under former owner, Jack Dorsey, had written in a statement, “After close review of recent tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Trump’s reinstatement on the social media platform comes days after he announced his plan to run for the US presidency in 2024.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu

A cleric, Bishop Silas Eke, has thrown his weight behind the re-election of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, saying it is the best for the people of Abia North senatorial district.

Eke, the Founder of Kingly Assembly, in a chat with newsmen in Arochukwu Local Government Area, said the senator has been doing his best to make the Abia North a better place with provisions of dividends of democracy, stating that he surpassed his predecessors in many areas.

He maintained that the senator’s achievements are there for all to see, noting that he distinguished himself over past senators who converted resources meant for constituency projects to themselves.

Bishop Eke said other citizens of the zone have the right to aspire to become senator, however, enjoined other candidates contesting against Kalu to forget their ambition and support the Chief Whip of the Senate to steer the ship of the zone beyond 2023 for the betterment of the zone.

He also warned those bent in causing confusion during the election through violence to bury the idea as they would face the wrath of God who is against the shedding of blood of anybody in the state, adding that what the senator has been able to achieve pointed to the fact that he was appointed to lead by God at this material time.

He said: “With what I have seen so far in Abia North senatorial district, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is the best senator in the history of Abia State. Abia North is now a construction site. One may be tempted to ask what others were doing there since 1999.

“If you go to other parts of the state, you will realize that others are envious of Abia North because nothing is happening in their zones. If we don’t return Kalu in 2023, what is going to happen to the numerous projects under construction? The students studying medicine and surgery abroad? What would happen to schools and health centres under renovations? Anyone opposing Kalu in other to drag Abia North backward is seeking for the wrath of God.

“While some of the politicians are bent to wrestle power from him by force and shed the blood of innocent citizens, this would not be acceptable to God who does not want any blood to be wasted. I want to appeal to the other candidates to forgo their ambition and rally round Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, for the betterment of our people.”

The cleric then urged parents not to allow their children to be used as thugs by do or die politicians before and during the elections.
