Bayern Munich Rules Out Move For Ronaldo

Ronaldo Might Return To Man Utd Under Amorim—Sheringham

Cristiano Ronaldo will not join Bayern Munich according to the German champion’s CEO Oliver Kahn after the Portuguese star’s contract at Manchester United was terminated last week.

Ronaldo was touted to several clubs during the summer transfer window by his agent, Jorge Mendes, with Kahn admitting a possible move for the 37-year-old had been discussed internally.

The German giants opted against a move claiming that Ronaldo did not ‘fit our philosophy.

The Bundesliga leaders have been viewed as a potential destination for Ronaldo following his Old Trafford exit, but Kahn insists the club’s position has not changed.

“We have already dealt with this,” Kahn told Sky Sports Germany. “We have a clear idea, a clear philosophy of how our squad should be put together.

“We all appreciate him, there’s no discussion. We all love Cristiano Ronaldo, but that’s something that doesn’t fit into our idea.”

Ronaldo’s contract was terminated by Manchester United last week, following a number of controversial statements in a TV interview with Piers Morgan.

Throughout the summer Ronaldo stated that his desire to make a move away from Old Trafford was in large part motivated by the club’s failure to qualify for Champions League football.

Reports have suggested United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea have cooled on the idea of signing Ronaldo, with the club’s new owner Todd Boehly previously keen on taking the star to Stamford Bridge.

Saudi Arabian giants Al Nassr have reportedly targeted a move for the iconic forward.

Ronaldo had momentarily appeared to have become Portugal’s joint-ever leading World Cup goalscorer alongside national team legend Eusebio after celebrating scoring against Uruguay on Monday.

The goal was instead awarded to his former Manchester United team-mate Bruno Fernandes, with Ronaldo ruled as having failed to connect with the cross for Portugal’s opening goal in the 2-0 win.

Mane Inspired Us To Victory Against Ecuador — Koulibaly

Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly has disclosed how talismanic forward Sadio Mane pushed the team to victory against Ecuador.

The Terangha Lions won the keenly contested tie 2-1 to secure a place in the Round of 16.

Koulibaly scored the winning goal for Aliou Cisse’s side.

He stated post-game that he received a pre-game “good luck” message from Mane while adding: “There are lots of things going on. We knew the anniversary of Papa [Bouba Diop]’s death was important, we wanted to make him proud. He was a source of inspiration to all the players.

“It was important to make his family, our own families, and the whole of Senegal proud. We wanted to show exactly why Senegal is the champion of Africa.

“Two-thirds of the world probably thought we wouldn’t go through after Sadio’s injury. But we are a family, a well-oiled team. There is a dream of going beyond the quarter-final. We keep believing, we want to relate the story of Senegalese football.

“The next game will be tough, every game is. But the team who plays against us will be a little bit afraid. They can see we have a lot of talent – that we can do good things.”

I Can Only Attend Arise TV Debate Only If Peter Obi Lists Achievements As Anambra Governor — Tinubu

2023: I Will Not Attend Arise TV Town Hall Meeting – Tinubu
Bola Tinubu

Ahead of Sunday’s third edition of the presidential town hall meeting organised by Arise Television, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has listed conditions his counterpart from the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, must meet before engaging in a debate with him.

Tinubu said he would engage Obi in a debate after the latter releases his manifesto for Nigerians to scrutinise. Recall that Tinubu had earlier said he would not attend the third edition of the presidential town hall meeting organised by the television station in collaboration with the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) after he abstained from previous edition.

The third edition, which will focus on education, healthcare, poverty, and human capital, is expected to host Tinubu, Obi, standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential hopeful, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Speaking through the spokesman of his campaign team, Festus Keyamo, yesterday, Tinubu said Obi should also list his achievements during his tenure as governor of Anambra State before any debate can hold.

Keyamo said Obi should name any political party he formed and should disclose those he had mentored in politics who are still with him before asking for a debate.

“Before Obi can stand shoulder to shoulder with Asiwaju to debate, he should first release a manifesto for scrutiny; then he should list his tangible achievements as governor of Anambra compared to the tangible achievements of Asiwaju as governor of Lagos State.

“Then he should list those he has mentored in politics from the days of his being governor, who are still with him now; then he should tell us any political party he has either formed or partnered to form and which he still belongs to today,” he said.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment added: “Then he should list his democratic credentials, that is, what he did to contribute to the return to democracy from military rule and what he has since done better than Asiwaju, to sustain our democracy. After all these, we shall send them one of our spokespersons to debate with him.”

But Arise TV has insisted candidates participating in the 2023 presidential election must respect the Constitution and ensure they respond to questions from the media on their manifestos.

The broadcast media had at the weekend announced that its third presidential town hall series will hold on December 4, with four presidential candidates expected to attend on the said day, to which the Tinubu campaign organisation said its presidential candidate will not attend, citing lack of prior discussion on the matter with Arise TV, as a reason for the non-attendance.

The campaign organisation also warned Arise TV against using its candidate’s photograph on advertisements for the town hall meeting. But in another poster announcing the town hall meeting on Tuesday, Arise TV listed Tinubu as one of the invited candidates, and quoted section 22 of the 1999 Constitution.

“The press, radio, television and other agencies of the mass media shall at all times be free to uphold the fundamental objectives contained in this chapter and uphold the responsibility and accountability of the government to the people,” the aforementioned section reads.

The broadcast media said it is expected of a presidential candidate to “respond to questions from independent journalists.

“In furtherance to this constitutional duty, Arise news channel will host the third in the series of the presidential town hall and expects all candidates seeking elections to form a government under this Constitution, to respect the letters and spirit of the law, either on Arise news channel or any broadcast channel or media of their choice, to respond to questions from independent journalists, in keeping with the fundamental objectives, responsibility and accountability required by the Constitution for those who wish to lead us,” Arise TV added.

Federal Government To Restructure, Reform NYSC – Minister Reveals

The acting Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Christy Uba, has cautioned corps members against actions capable of tarnishing the image of the scheme.

She warned that the national service uniform did not confer immunity against criminal prosecution on them.

Uba gave the warning after reviewing a colourful parade marking the successful end of the 2022 Batch C, Stream I Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kaiama Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The acting DG who was represented by the Bayelsa State Coordinator of the scheme, Mr Muhammed Jiya, described corps members as patriots on national assignment who were expected to live an exemplary lifestyle in order to show that they were truly qualified in character and learning.

The NYSC boss said, “Particularly, the corps members are enjoined to avoid keeping late nights and shun cultism, drug abuse, prostitution, kidnapping and armed robbery.

“The national uniform you are wearing does not confer on you any unique advantage nor immune you from criminal prosecution.

“Therefore, resist any temptation that will get you involved in any nefarious activities that may bring the name of your family, Alma Mata, NYSC and the nation at large into disrepute.”

She warned corps members to be non-partisan because they have a critical role to play in the electoral process during the 2023 general elections.

She also cautioned those who would be posted to riverine areas to avoid travelling on water without a life jacket.
