The Federal Government, weekend, expressed concern over the unemployability of Nigerian graduates in the labour market.

Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, said this while delivering the 12th convocation lecture of the Achievers University, Owo, in Ondo State.

Delivering his speech, titled: ‘Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship: A Panacea for Unemployment’, Pantami said “the worrisome situation is the problem is not unemployment but unemployability.”

His words: “There was a mismatch between the quality of Nigeria graduates and the skills for job opportunities available globally. If we can leverage on the opportunities available within the digital economy sector through digital innovation on one hand and digital entrepreneurship on the other hand, we will be equated with the economy of the G7 nations.

“We prioritize certificate too much in Nigeria, certificates without any skill to offer, certificates without expertise to take up any opportunity. Our priority should be on the skill we obtain.

“The requirement for job opportunities are changing everyday. We need to teach our children how to provide solution to complex problem.

“We need to prioritize soft skills. We need to teach them critical thinking. We need to provide some hours for free for our students and others to think deeply and identify a challenge so that they can provide a solution. We need to prioritize the skills we give them.”

I’m Not Supporting Tinubu To Get Ministerial Appointment, Says Ex-Senate President

0

Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, has said his support for the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is not an attempt to get a ministerial position or other benefits.

According to him, his decision to be with the APC standard bearer was for the overall benefit of the Igbo ethnic group and the South-East region in particular.

He said the Igbo would use their support for Tinubu in 2023 to build bridges across the country, adding that the presidential candidate was guaranteed their support because of his capacity to fix the country.

Nnamani said this at the inauguration of the state and local government area coordinators of the Tinubu/Shettima Independent Campaign Council in Enugu at the weekend.

“I’m not looking for ministerial position because I have outgrown that. We are doing this in the overall interest of our people.

“Ndigbo are using our support for Tinubu and the APC in 2023 to build bridges across the country,” Nnamani said.

He said the Tinubu/Shettima Independent Campaign Council did not take the place of the APC in Enugu State, explaining that it was an initiative of the presidential candidate.

He went on to urge the campaign council to ensure that the people of Enugu State understood why they needed to vote for Tinubu and the APC.

“Don’t join issues with people who are resorting to insults. Just concentrate on the goal because this is a very serious business,” he added.

On his part, the state coordinator of the ICC, Gbazuagu Nweke, said a Tinubu presidency would favour the Igbo, just as he stated that Tinubu would still win without them

“Tinubu will win and his opponents know it. If he cannot win, he won’t be receiving these attacks. The only thing they are holding against him is age.

“He will win even without us, but we won’t be left behind. But we’re just complimenting his election.

“He is over-prepared for this position

“If Ken and other leaders can say let’s follow this man, we have to obey,” Gbazuagu said.

He promised to take the campaign to every booth across the state.

Appointed as secretary of the ICC is a former Attorney General of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Nwoga, while former state chairman of the APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye, was appointed as director contact and mobilsation.

The Lagos State Government on Saturday said that the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge will make room for expansion, curb gridlock and bring development to neigbouring communities.

The Special Adviser (SA) on Works and Infrastructure to the governor, Mrs Aramide Adeyoye, said this at a stakeholders meeting with some boundary communities in Lagos and Ogun states.

The meeting, which took place in Isheri Estate, Ogun, was for the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (EIA) of the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge on Arepo, Opic, Isheri, Igbogbo Baiyeku, Agric-Owutu, Ishawo, Tapa and other adjoining communities.

Mrs Adeyoye, who was represented by Mr Tokunbo Ajanaku, sought the help of the stakeholders towards the execution of the 37-kilometre road with 16 routes, adding that three bids were in their final stages and captured the interests of the communities in mitigating environmental impacts.

PDP Crisis: Tambuwal Visits Ortom, Says Solution Possible

0

The Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has said the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is not a war of attrition but political disagreement that would be resolved soon.

The Governor who is the Director General of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, spoke Sunday when he visited his Benue State counterpart, Governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi.

He explained that his visit was prompted by the crisis in the party. He noted the leading role Governor Ortom plays in the PDP saying “we have had time to converse and engage on what is happening in our party. Governor Ortom is a leader in this party when you look at his political tragectory, history and where he is today.

“He holds a very important position in the affairs of our party. I have said this before and about three months ago, that internal party wranglings are normal and what we have been having is not a war of attrition but political disagreement.

“We even in our families have reasons to disagree, agree and some other times when you have such disagreement and you come back together, you bond more stronger and wax stronger.

“So, it’s work in progress. We have met several times, but we are working to bring everybody together to work for this party. That is the mission of my being here in Makurdi.

“Governor Ortom is a principal person on the issues we are handling and we have had a very strong conversation with him and of course, I will engage with the rest of our colleagues and our leaders to see how best we can come back together as one family and work towards making sure that the PDP come out stronger and win the election of 2023.”

Earlier, Governor Ortom who noted that the meeting was at the instance of the Sokoto State Governor said “we have discussed quite a number of issues including the division in the PDP; the G-5 which I am a member. He is here principally to see how we can team up and work together as a party.

“I have told him he is welcomed, we are together, we are members of the PDP. But I have said that the leaderdhip of this party has failed to take advantage of the challenges of the party and make it stronger.

“Right from when we held our convention, instead of the leadership deploying its internal dispute resolution mechanism to look at the grievances that arose as a result of the primaries no matter how stupid they were, they failed to do this.

“Rather it is arrogance and non challant attitude; and nobody has cared to reach out to us even when we voiced out that things were not going on well.

“So for me I commend him for taking this step to visit me. And we have discussed on my opinion on how I think this matter can be resolved. And I believe that as a leader and DG of the campaign he would do the needful because I am not alone. Talking to me alone will not solve the problem but reaching out to the others. I believe he will do the needful to pull the party together.”

It’s Suicidal To Return APC To Power, Arewa Group Warns Nigerians

0

A group of northerners, led by Prof Usman Yusuf, former chairman of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Mahdi Shehu and Ladan Salihu of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) have said it is suicidal and destructive allowing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to return to power in 2023.

The declaration was made by the group, Northern Awareness Initiative, on Sunday in Kano at a press conference, saying the same will take place all over the north in subsequent days to educate the grassroots on the need to vote out the ruling APC.

The group also condemned the APC-led Federal Government for leading over 130 million Nigerians into poverty in the last eight years, sighting the records by Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

They further mentioned neglect of 20 million out-of-school children.

“The present administration told us eight years ago that they want to fight corruptiom, they want to secure this nation and they want to improve the economy, all they have done so far is the opposite.

“I am from Katsina; one third of my state is under seige by bandits. We have never seen IDPs in Katsina until this government came in. My state capital is filled up with IDPs.

“We gave President Buhari 1.2 million votes in the last elections, what have we to show for it? Death and destruction.

“Kano gave him 1.8 million votes, what do you have to show for it? The whole of the north has nothing to show for the eight years of the APC rule.

“In recent years we have not seen as much poverty as we have seen today.

“The National Bureau of Statistics said 133 million Nigerians are now in multidimensional poverty.

“We have never seen that, we have come to a time when the President himself is blaming the governors for poverty.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we did not give him this presidency to blame anybody else. Now that the game is over, you are blamie somebody else?

“They have failed, the APC government has failed.

“Fighting corruption; we have seen a lot more corruption cases under this government.

“He has not fought corruption, he has not improved the economy, the economy is worse and where we are today, insecurity is the worst ever in our life time.

“We are, therefore, educating our people that it is going to be suicidal for people to vote APC to power again,” Prof Yusuf declared.

Be Cautious With Atiku’s Sugar Coated Promises, Tinubu Tells Nigerians

I Made My Wealth From Inheritance - Tinubu
Bola Tinubu

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged Nigerians not to get carried away by the promises of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement Bayo Onanuga, Director of Media & Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, signed on his behalf, Tinubu said the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be ashamed of his party’s record in office.

Atiku had said the best period Nigerians enjoyed under the current democratic dispensation was when the PDP was in power.

Responding, Tinubu said Atiku was “embellishing the locust years as if it was a golden era in our history.”

He said, “We need to warn Nigerians to be wary of the sugar-coated promises of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as they embark on their inordinate and desperate campaign to gain power at all cost.

“A party that should be eternally shameful about its appalling record in governance between 1999 and 2015 is now busy rewriting history, embellishing the locust years as if it was a golden era in our history.

“Of course,, this is fake history at its worse. We are not fooled. Nigerians should also not be fooled about the boldfaced lies, being articulated by the candidate and his party.

“What is more shocking is Atiku’s audacity in standing up to ask for our votes despite what his boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote about him in his book, ‘My Watch’. Obasanjo wrote that it would have been an unpardonable mistake “and sin against God to foist him on Nigeria”. Obasanjo still believes so till tomorrow.”

“Obasanjo still rues till today making Atiku his vice president in 1999, only to discover later, his shadowy parentage, his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time, a propensity for poor judgment, his belief and reliance on marabouts, his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out on all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety, truth and national interest for self and selfish interest. We are, however, not totally surprised about Atiku’s latest desperation.”

Tinubu also tackled Atiku over some promises he made at the PDP presidential rally in Abuja, saying, “Atiku is aware that this is his last shot at the elusive presidency”.

“He claimed at his rally in Abuja on Saturday that the country is not secure for trading and farming, a false narrative that he has been pushing around for some time, since he relocated to Nigeria from his base in Dubai, principally to contest the election.

“We believe in his private moment that Atiku will concede that his view about insecurity is exaggerated. Our country is certainly better secure than in 2015 when the PDP allowed insurgents to seize 17 local councils in Borno and some four councils in Atiku’s home state of Adamawa State, when Abuja was under constant bomb attacks and people slept with eyes wide open. What further proof of progress made by the APC does Atiku need than the fact that he was able, recently, to carry his party men and women to Maiduguri to hold a rally, without any attacks by insurgents and bandits. Atiku can also drive smoothly from Yola, his state capital to Jada, his home town on a reconstructed road by the Buhari-led APC administration. The road was impassable for 8 years Atiku was Vice President and got progressively bad and totally cut off from civilisation until the Buhari government reconstructed it.”

The Special Adviser for Drainage and Water Resources to the Lagos State Governor, Joe Ignokwe has said Igbo in Diaspora are afraid to come home for Christmas to see their parents, in-laws, and loved ones.

Joe Igbokwe made the statement following the attack in Enugu on Saturday by hoodlums enforcing Simon Ekpa’s five-day sit-at-home order in the South East.

Joe Igbokwe said: “In the name of Sit-at-Home Order, hundreds of people have been killed and hundreds of vehicles are reduced to ashes in the last two years.”

Joe Igbokwe said Igbo in diaspora are now afraid to come home, and those who will come will stay in Lagos or Abuja.

Joe Igbokwe’s house was allegedly set on fire in Nnewi, Anambra State, in 2021. Mr. Igbokwe accused members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) of the incident, although the IPOB leadership distanced its members from the attack.

Hardship: APC Has Spoilt Christmas For Nigerians — Ayu

PDP Transformed Ebonyi Into London, Will Do Same For Nigeria – Iyorchia Ayu

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has promised the people of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that a federal government under him as president will give the nation’s capital all that is due to it and its citizens appointed into government positions.

In the same vein, PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, said due to the current hardship imposed by APC government, most Nigerians will not enjoy Christmas this year.

Atiku made the declaration during the FCT rally of the party which took place at Eagle Square on Saturday, saying that if need be, the government would seek constitutional review to ensure that the rights and privileges of the FCT citizens are protected.

The former vice-president also promised to restore security to the nation’s capital to enable residents to go about their businesses without fear.

Speaking on his plans for the FCT, Atiku stated: “If you give us your support again, we will do more than what we did between 1999 and 2015 for the residents of Abuja.

“All your entitlements under the current constitution, all the appointments that belong to Abuja will be given to Abuja.

“You know that we have done so before and we are going to do so again.

“If what you have demanded requires constitutional review, we assure you that we shall support that constitutional review so that your aspirations are protected and guaranteed in our new constitution.

“More so, we have pledged to restructure this country. In the process of restructuring, we shall give you all that you are demanding. I want to assure you that, and I want to promise you that.

“Currently, we have challenges. Can you imagine Abuja not secured? Can you imagine Abuja the Federal Capital Territory not secured? We shall protect Abuja and secure it for your own safety.

“Of course, you are aware of our five-point agenda. We shall unify this country. Every part of this country will be given a sense of belonging. No part will be sidelined; no part will be marginalised. That is how to bring a sense a unity in a country like Nigeria.

“We have pledged to restore security. It is very essential that we give everybody peace: a farmer, peace to go to the farm, a trader, peace to trade, peace to everybody. It is only when there is peace that we can undertake our different aspirations.

“We have promised that education is key to youth development. We have the highest number of out of school children. We will make sure that these children go back to school. Not only that, we will make sure that our universities reopen forever and ever.

“The people of Abuja, before anybody feels the impact of government, you will be the first because you are in the federal capital. I promise that a PDP administration will fulfill all these obligations. We thank you very much indeed.”

Also speaking at the rally Ayu said the APC has burdened citizens with high prices of essential commodities while the rapidity with which former PDP administration built houses in Abuja to accommodate residents has become a thing of the past. The party boss noted that if Atiku is elected, he will bring back the old days, secure the country and make it more enjoyable for the people.

Ayu declared: “We won AMAC. We won Kuje. We won Bwari (Area Councils). In other words, Abuja is PDP. We don’t need to come and campaign to you because we know what to do. “More importantly vote for our president Atiku Abubakar, because he knows what you are going through, every citizen of Abuja is suffering.

“Our suffering is rising with high cost of rice. A bag of rice is almost N50, 000.

“Most us you will not enjoy Christmas because of the APC. We are suffering from high cost of gas, a kilogramme of gas we don’t know how much now? These people who came with lies to vote for them have created so much poverty that today Nigeria is the capital of poverty in the world.”
