PDP Crisis: Wike Announces Date To Reveal Presidential Candidate

0

As the crisis in the opposition party PDP lingers, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says he will make his preferred presidential candidate known in January 2023.

The governor, who stated this on Thursday, said he will also campaign for his adopted candidate nationwide.

“From January next year, I will campaign to my people whom they will vote for,” Wike said when he commissioned the tenth flyover by his administration in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers.

“So, all of you who have been in suspense, who have been saying all kinds of things, abusing me, wait. January is here.

“Not only will I tell them (my people) whom to vote, I will move from state to state (for campaigns) and why they should vote for the person, nothing will happen,” he said.

Following the PDP presidential primary in May where he lost out, Wike has been at loggerheads with Atiku Abubakar over the chairmanship of Iyorchia Ayu.

After the presidential primary, Atiku, a former Vice President, stung Wike when he passed over his closest rival at the primary and chose Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.

Wike, with four other PDP governors known as the G5 or the Integrity Group, have insisted that Benue-born Ayu must step down for a southerner as a precondition to support the 2023 ambition of Atiku.

Earlier in December, the Director General of Atiku’s Campaign, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State visited one of Wike’s ally and a G5 member, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State in a move to resolve the crisis but no success was achieved.

Later the same day, Atiku, on Channels Television’s The People’s Townhall, said he has met Wike five times to resolve the issue but there is no end in sight. Ortom and Wike subsequently shunned Atiku who was in Benue earlier this month for campaigns.

Last month, Wike promised logistics support for the campaigns of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi; and his New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) counterpart, Rabiu Kwankwaso. Wike has also of late hobnobbed with All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts like Adams Oshiomhole and Governors Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Ben Ayade (Cross River).

While Wike and his allies have not been seen to campaign for Atiku, it is not clear whether they will support Obi, Kwankwaso or APC’s Bola Tinubu in the contest for Aso Rock’s top job.

Campaigning For Tinubu A Waste Of Time, PDP Tells Buhari

Sen. Kalu Commiserates With Buhari Over Niece's Death

The Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization has admonished President Muhammadu Buhari not to waste precious time campaigning for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, because Nigerians have since rejected him.

A spokesperson for the Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign, Kola Ologbondiyan said this in Abuja, on Thursday.

According to him, Nigerians have registered their rejection of Tinubu as they have shown that they will never trust or elect a tinted individual accused of treasury-looting and many other reprehensible acts.

He said, “Is it not preposterous and a huge spat on the faces of Nigerians that an individual, who is beleaguered by allegations of corruption, perjury, identity theft, inconsistencies in name and ancestry, as well as alleged narcotics offence for which he forfeited a whopping sum of $460,000 to the United States of America, could present himself for election into the office of the President of the Federal of Nigeria?

“It is imperative to state that Nigerians will never entrust the destiny of our nation to any individual who is completely tarnished; whose persona is globally tainted with issues of criminal allegations, who cannot explain the source of his wealth in the face of accusations that it proceeds of corruption.

“Of course, there is no way Nigerians will trust or elect an individual who is so depraved that he can present the photograph of another person, former Governor of Cross Rivers State, Donald Duke, as his to gain followership in a documentary used as part of his campaign materials to canvass for votes.

“Such proclivity to falsehood is evident in the attempt by Tinubu, who cannot point to any resounding legacy project he articulated and executed in his brawling years as Governor of Lagos State, to shamelessly claim credit for the achievements of his predecessors and successors in office.

“It is strange that anybody can expect Nigerians to elect a failed State Governor whose only achievement is entrenching governance by the brawl, personal enrichment and puffery.

“In any case, Nigerians across the country have since established their preference for the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, over and above the deflated Tinubu as the next President of our great country.”

Ologbondiyan hinged his confidence on what he said was a proven fact that his principal, Atiku Abubakar, has over the years proven himself as a leader with the requisite integrity, sound reputation and desired capacity, competence, presence of mind, political will and stamina to lead our nation at this critical time.

He said, Nigerians want Atiku on the saddle in their yearning for the return of the good days; the period of Atiku Abubakar as Vice President and Chairman of the Economic Council, when our nation witnessed unprecedented economic growth to become one of the fastest growing economies of the world, where citizens were secure, prosperous and happy.

The PDP campaign enjoined President Buhari not to waste his time campaigning for Asiwaju Tinubu, whom it said has lost grip of the Presidential contest and is only seen in the public as a butt of jokes for his endless gaffes, display of vacuity and incapacity to lead.

The campaign Spokesperson explained that what Nigerians expect from President Buhari at this time is to provide the enabling environment that will guarantee peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible General Elections in 2023 as well as a smooth transfer of power in line with the expressed will of the people on May 29, 2023.

Tinubu Only Giving Alms, Not Bribe In Viral Video, Says APC Campaign Council

0

Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared the air on a viral video showing the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, giving out money to someone, saying it was a show of kindness and not bribe to fellow politicians as being peddled in certain quarters.

In the two-minute video which went viral on social media, Tinubu and Shettima were seen giving crispy naira notes to a physically challenged man during a meeting with people living with disabilities (PLWD) in Abuja.

The video sparked negative reactions, with members of the opposition, including former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, and spokesperson of Labour Party presidential candidate, Emeka Obasi, accusing Tinubu of brazen act of corruption.

But, explaining the content of the video, the APC campaign team described as “dishonest, erroneous and incorrect narrative” the claim that it was an act of bribery, whereas Tinubu and Shettima were merely extending a cloak of kindness to the the young man in the video.

Deputy spokesperson of the APC presidential campaign council, Barrister Hannatu Musawa, on Wednesday absolved her principal of any wrongdoing said the negative comments trailing the video are misrepresentation of harmless clip she posted of her “principals giving alms and charity to a poor and disabled elderly gentleman.”

According to Barrister Musawa, instead of commending the act of kindness demonstrated by Tinubu and Shetima towards a disabled man in need, the opposition chose to spin the narrative to reflect an act of bribery and corruption.

She stated: “My attention has been drawn to the dishonest, erroneous and incorrect narrative spun by unctuous, dissipated, debauched and desperate elements within the opposition to turn a perfectly innocent video I posted of a kind act I witnessed my Principals carrying out into something mendacious and devious.

“A few days ago I attended a gathering with the Presidential candidate of the APC Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Alhaji Kashim Shetima where they had a robust engagement with persons with disability.

“During the event, our principals had the opportunity to interact with a poor and disabled elderly gentleman. Borne purely out of compassion, my principals spoke to this gentleman, listened to him and performed the tenant of charity and alms giving towards him.

“As I watched this tender moment between the three men, I wanted to capture it and show the world the empathy that organically runs through the veins of my principals, and that raw spirit of charity that they both imbibe.”

Noting that she did not share the video clip in error, Musawa explained that she shared the video to tell a compassionate and compelling story of leadership as depicted by Tinubu and Shettima.

She regretted that the opposition has refused to engage in issue-based campaign and are now grasping at straws by adopting extreme methods to stay relevant.

The deputy spokesperson said, “I posted the video, not out of mistake, but with the intention of telling the compassionate story of the empathetic leadership that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, supported by Alhaji Kashim Shetima will surely give to Nigeria after they emerge victorious in the upcoming election, by the grace of The Almighty.

“As I watch the negative chronicle being spun by the opposition Svengali’s, trying to enforce a specific negative narrative on the public, it is clear that the falsehood being spread stems from the devious imagination and wicked machinations of a desperate and self combusting opposition.

“I would have dismissed the musings as the rantings of an inconsequential opposition. However, I am compelled to make this response because of innocent Nigerians that may be misled by such devious rhetoric.

“I have thorough confidence that, come February 25th 2023, Nigerians will exercise their constitutional right and resoundingly vote for the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the 17th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Urging Nigerians to disregard any fabrication attached to the video, she implored them to “rather concentrate on collectively working to move our nation forward by making the upcoming voting exercise the freest and fairest elections Nigeria will ever have.”
