Community leaders, political stakeholders and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State have declared their support for the re-election bid of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The declarations came during Kalu’s ward-to-ward tour of Umunneochi, which took him to Lomara, Obinolu Obiagu, Amorie and Leru, where he interacted with community leaders, elders, women, youths and party supporters.
Among those who publicly expressed support for the former Abia State Governor were prominent businessman Chief Etomchukwu Uba, popularly known as Akuchinyeremba Isuochi; Mr. Dike Olekamma; Eze Aloysius, President-General of Lomara; the Vice President-General of Amorie; and the APC House of Assembly candidate for Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon. Uche Stanley Ebere.
Speaking during the visit, Chief Etomchukwu Uba recalled a road project undertaken in the community during Kalu’s administration as Governor of Abia State, describing it as one of the developments residents continued to associate with his leadership.
Uba said the senator had maintained a longstanding relationship with the people of Umunneochi, noting that his continued visits and interactions with communities demonstrated his interest in their affairs.
He consequently declared his support for Kalu’s re-election in 2027.
At Leru Ward, Mr. Dike Olekamma also expressed support for the senator’s bid to return to the National Assembly, joining other stakeholders who spoke during the engagement.
The APC House of Assembly candidate for Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon. Uche Stanley Ebere, called on residents to deliver bloc votes for Kalu in the forthcoming general election.
Ebere, who hails from Leru Ward and accompanied the senator during the tour, urged APC members and supporters to remain united as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.
He said his support for Kalu was informed by the senator’s record of representation and his continued engagement with communities across Abia North.
At Lomara Ward, the community’s President-General, Eze Aloysius, joined other leaders in receiving the senator and expressing support for his re-election.
Similarly, stakeholders at Amorie Ward, including the Vice President-General of the community, participated in the reception and pledged their support.
The tour also took Kalu to Obinolu Obiagu in Lomara Ward, where he held discussions with traditional and community leaders, elders, women and youths on matters affecting their communities.
Addressing residents at the various stops, Senator Kalu thanked them for their reception and reiterated his commitment to pursuing development initiatives across Umunneochi and other parts of Abia North Senatorial District.
The former governor assured constituents that he would continue to use his position in the National Assembly to facilitate projects and support initiatives aimed at improving living conditions.
He maintained that his relationship with the people of Umunneochi extended beyond electoral politics, stressing the importance of regular engagement with constituents to understand their challenges and priorities.
Kalu also encouraged residents to maintain peace, unity and cooperation while participating actively in community development.
Following the day’s engagements, prominent businessman and Leru indigene, Chief Larry Onuegbu of Larryben Motors, hosted the senator and his entourage at his residence.
The gathering brought together party leaders, community stakeholders and supporters who had participated in the ward-to-ward tour.
Kalu expressed appreciation to Chief Onuegbu for his hospitality and thanked the community leaders, political stakeholders and party members who accompanied him during the engagements.
The visit formed part of the senator’s ongoing grassroots consultations across Abia North ahead of the 2027 general elections, during which he is seeking another term in the Senate.
