The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers to higher ranks, including the elevation of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, and 12 other Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

The promotions were approved during the Commission’s plenary meeting held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the PSC Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, following the officers’ successful completion of the recently concluded written examination and oral interview.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of the Commission, Torty Njoku Kalu, the 13 Commissioners of Police elevated to the rank of AIG are: Itam Nnaghe Obono (Counter Terrorism Unit), Bassey Samuel Ewah (Plateau State), Osagie John Agans-Irabor (FCID Lagos), Monday Agbonika (Edo State), Iyamah Daniel Adebor (Bayelsa State), Isa Danladi Nda (Abia State), Akaninyene Ezima (Director, NPF-NCCC), Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu (Anambra State), Afegbua B. Rashid (Cross River State), Edozie Hycenth Azuka (AML/CFT, FCID), Haruna Alaba Yahaya (Jigawa State), Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent (Benue State), and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin (Police Welfare).

The Commission also promoted 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the substantive rank of Commissioner of Police (CP). The newly promoted officers include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo, and Zainab A. Pembi.

Similarly, the PSC approved the promotion of 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). Among those elevated are Ofili Felix, Mohammed Baba-Mala, Deborah O. Benary, Mohammed Sani Musa, Lot Garba Lantoh, Ijeoma Princewill Onyema, Oyedepo Olubisi, Amanyi Christopher, and Regina Mbanefo, alongside other senior officers.

In addition, 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). Those promoted include Gafar Ajayi Adeyanju and CSP Nnamdi Lotanna Anabike, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Central Police Station, Onitsha, among others.

The Commission also confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).

Speaking after the promotions, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd.), congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through professionalism, transparency, and accountability.

He advised the officers to remain committed to ethical policing, avoid involvement in civil disputes, particularly land-related matters, and always protect their integrity and reputation.

“Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you,” the PSC Chairman charged the officers.

The latest promotions are expected to strengthen leadership within the Nigeria Police Force and enhance operational effectiveness across commands and formations nationwide.
