The Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, has deployed a constituency pay-loader to support a road clearance exercise in Ebem Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
The exercise, carried out along the Ada Udumaeze/Iyi-Opele axis, was organised by the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU) in collaboration with its Youth Wing as part of efforts to ensure that access roads within the community remain open and functional for residents, farmers, traders, and other road users.
Hon. Osonwa, who participated directly in the exercise, also provided diesel to power the heavy equipment. The pay-loader, which had earlier been used for farm road grading operations in Ututu, was deployed to accelerate the clearance operation and ease the removal of road obstructions within the area.
Community leaders noted that the use of the heavy machinery significantly reduced the time and manpower that would have been required if the exercise had been carried out manually.
The operation was led by the First Vice President General of the EODU Central Executive Council, Ogwo Ukpola Eke, representing the President General, Chief Engr. Uduma Olugu Iroha. Also present were the Youth Wing Chairman, Amadi-Olua Onwuka, and the Secretary General of EODU, Mr. Kalu Ogboso Nnaoke.
Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Kalu Ogboso Nnaoke reiterated the readiness of the Union to ensure that communities within Ebem Ohafia maintain adequate access roads for residents and road users.
He explained that the road clearance exercise was part of broader efforts by the Union to enforce compliance with approved road layouts and improve community infrastructure.
Commending the intervention of Hon. Osonwa, Ogwo Ukpola Eke stated that the timely deployment of the pay-loader would help restore orderly access and improve movement within the community.
On his part, Youth Wing Chairman Amadi-Olua Onwuka reaffirmed the commitment of youths in Ebem Ohafia to supporting lawful community decisions aimed at preserving public infrastructure and promoting development.
The community leadership also appealed for support toward the rehabilitation of the Ebem Daily Market, which they said requires extensive filling work to address erosion damage accumulated over the years.
Reacting to the exercise, Hon. Osonwa commended the leadership of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union and its Youth Wing for what he described as organised and purposeful community leadership.
“A community that organises itself around its own development deserves a representative who shows up for it. The pay-loader will continue to work across our constituency, it was in Ututu before Ebem, and it will move to other communities as the need arises. This equipment belongs to every ward in Arochukwu/Ohafia,” the lawmaker stated.
The road clearance exercise forms part of a wider constituency programme by Hon. Osonwa to deploy mechanised equipment, including a pay-loader and grader, across Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency to support access road construction, farm path grading, and rural infrastructure development aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and community connectivity.
