The Abia State Caretaker Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Nigerians, particularly residents of Abia State, to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, citing what it described as years of economic hardship and worsening insecurity under the ruling party.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, April 16, 2026, the PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman, Ikpegbu Emeka Yellow, said the press conference was convened to reaffirm the party’s strength and readiness ahead of the next electoral cycle.
He assured party members and supporters that the PDP remains united and firmly on ground, adding that the party is fully prepared to present credible and people-oriented candidates across all elective positions in 2027.

The PDP chairman accused the APC-led administration of failing Nigerians over the past decade, pointing to rising inflation, unemployment, business closures, and declining public trust in institutions. He noted that millions of Nigerians are struggling to afford basic necessities, while insecurity continues to spread across the country.
According to him, “a government that cannot guarantee safety or improve the lives of its citizens has failed in its primary responsibility,” stressing that the current situation must not be allowed to continue.
He also alleged attempts by the ruling party to weaken opposition forces and dominate the political space ahead of the elections, warning that such actions pose a threat to Nigeria’s democratic system.
Focusing on Abia State, the PDP cautioned voters against supporting the APC, arguing that it would amount to importing what it described as the failures of the federal government into the state. The party further claimed that some individuals promoting the APC in Abia were responsible for past mismanagement and are now seeking political relevance under a different platform.
The PDP leadership urged citizens to remain vigilant and resist intimidation or inducement, expressing confidence that Abians would make informed choices at the polls.
While acknowledging past internal challenges, the party maintained that it has been repositioned and is ready to reclaim political leadership. It also hinted at an expected Supreme Court ruling on party matters, expressing optimism about the outcome.
The PDP concluded by calling for unity among opposition parties in Abia State to resist what it described as undemocratic tendencies and ensure a credible electoral process in 2027.
