Interpol Systems Consultant and renowned security expert, Sir Chikwe Udensi, has criticized the Federal and South East state governments over what he describes as misplaced priorities in the face of Nigeria’s deepening security crisis.
Speaking during an exclusive interview on FLO FM, Udensi lamented the continued allocation of billions of naira to political overheads and luxury spending, while core sectors like security, education, and healthcare remain grossly underfunded.
“In times like this, when the country is battling terrorism, kidnapping, and violent crimes, resources should be moved into national emergencies and not political luxury,” he said.
Udensi, who is also the Vice President of the International Security Association in Zurich, accused some South East governors of spending state allocations on personal comfort, extravagant lifestyles, and political patronage at the expense of protecting lives and property.
He called on the Federal Government to urgently adopt a coordinated and disciplined budgeting framework, stressing the need for visible and impactful investment in security infrastructure.
“The government must match its words with action. A nation under siege cannot afford to treat security issues with levity,” he warned.
The security consultant also advocated for greater accountability and transparency in the use of public funds, emphasizing that the true measure of governance lies in how effectively leaders respond to the real needs of their people.
Sir Udensi’s comments come amid growing public outcry over rising insecurity in Nigeria, especially in the South East, where incidents of abduction, banditry, and politically motivated violence have surged in recent months.
