Nnamdi Kanu: Political Solution In Progress — Deputy Speaker Kalu Assures Supporters After Court Verdict

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has assured Nigerians, especially those in the South-East that all hope is not lost following the Federal High Court judgment sentencing the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to life imprisonment on Thursday.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kalu expressed confidence that a political resolution is now underway to secure Kanu’s release, stressing that avenues previously unavailable due to pending court processes are now open.

According to him, with the judicial phase completed, attention has shifted to securing a negotiated political settlement.

“It is now time to explore political solutions that had been hindered because the matter was before the court. But now that the court has finished, it is time to intensify request for the President’s intervention,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker also expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will give favourable consideration to ongoing appeals from notable Igbo leaders and concerned stakeholders pushing for reconciliation and peace.

“We are sure the President is not averse to it. We are going to get it. All hope is not lost,” he added.

Kalu appealed for calm across the country, urging Nigerians to avoid actions that may heighten tension.

His reassurance comes amid nationwide reactions and rising debate over the ruling and its implications for national unity, security, and political stability.
