The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Friday, October 24, 2025, appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja to personally defend himself in the ongoing trial instituted by the Federal Government.
ABN TV reports that this is the first time Kanu is standing in court without legal representation since he discharged his team of lawyers earlier this month. However, in a surprising development, the IPOB leader told the court that he had not yet accessed his case file, which he requires to properly prepare his defense.
Responding to his request, the presiding judge granted a short adjournment and fixed the next hearing for Monday, October 27, 2025.

This follows Kanu’s formal decision to represent himself after informing the court that he no longer wished to proceed with his legal team, including several senior advocates.

Kanu, who has been in custody since 2021 following his controversial rendition from Kenya, faces terrorism-related charges brought by the Federal Government. His legal team had previously filed a no-case submission, arguing that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case.
