Ukwa East Chairman Hon. Chibunna Akara Grants ₦50,000 Bursary To 212 Students (Photos)

The Executive Chairman of Ukwa East Local Government Area, Hon. Chibunna Akara, has disbursed ₦50,000 each to 212 students from the council area as part of his administration’s education support initiative.

The event, held at the council headquarters in Akwete, attracted students, parents, and top government officials who described the gesture as a milestone in grassroots development and an endorsement of Governor Alex Otti’s vision for human capital growth in Abia State.

Declaring the ceremony open, Hon. Akara said the bursary award was “a momentous occasion and a testament to the commitment of our Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, to restoring hope and investing in the future of Abia youths.”

According to him, the initiative is designed to ensure that “no child in Abia is left behind due to financial hardship,” stressing that education remains “the cornerstone of progress and transformation.”

“When we educate a child, we build a family; when we empower a youth, we secure the future,” Akara stated. “This bursary is not just an act of charity but a deliberate investment in the intellectual capacity and leadership potential of our people.”

Highlighting his administration’s complementary programmes, the Ukwa East boss revealed that over 150 students had been registered for WAEC examinations, while 30 young people were being trained in digital skills with laptops, accommodation, feeding, and monthly stipends. He added that 50 youths are currently engaged in various empowerment schemes under his government.

Hon. Akara urged the beneficiaries to see the bursary as “a call to excellence,” and to remain disciplined and focused in their studies, noting that their success would reflect positively on Ukwa East and the entire Abia State.

He expressed profound gratitude to Governor Otti for his “relentless drive to rebuild Abia on transparency, accountability, and people-centered governance,” pledging that Ukwa East would remain a strong partner in the governor’s development agenda.

“This is just the beginning,” Akara assured. “My administration will sustain and expand the student bursary programme even beyond my tenure.”

The ceremony featured goodwill messages from dignitaries, including the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who commended the initiative and charged students to take their studies seriously.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Labour Party, Emmanuel Otti, lauded Hon. Akara’s leadership and dubbed him “the Alex Otti of Ukwa East,” applauding his investment in education and youth development.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment to academic excellence, as participants hailed the bursary scheme as a beacon of hope for the younger generation and a model for grassroots governance in Abia State.
