Following weeks of speculation about his potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has opted to remain with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
However, the APC has claimed it rejected any overtures from the governor, labelling his administration as underperforming and a liability to the party.
In a statement released on Wednesday by APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party’s chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, described Adeleke as a “Trojan horse” and a burden that would compromise the party’s integrity.
“Governor Adeleke was rejected because of his baggage. He poses a threat to the integrity of the APC,” Lawal stated.
“Osun people know his attempt to join our party was driven by fear of defeat in the 2026 elections. His desperation was obvious, and the public is pleased with how we handled the situation.”
Lawal further described the PDP as a “leprous house”, claiming it has been abandoned by credible politicians since 2023. According to him, the party has become a “war loot” of the Adeleke dynasty, pushing away competent individuals due to alleged corruption, deceit, and mismanagement.
“From 2023, PDP began to morally collapse. Those with integrity have left the party for the APC, leaving it with political remnants and no viable structure to win future elections,” he added.
“The PDP’s claim of popularity is baseless and a self-soothing narrative.”
In response, PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi defended both the governor and the party, asserting that the PDP remains the most popular political force in Osun State.
“We won’t engage in petty political attacks,” Bisi said. “Our focus is on the people, not rigging or importing fake voters as being planned by the opposition.”
He added that Osun residents are well aware of each party’s performance and will make an informed decision come 2026.
“Our achievements speak for themselves. Governor Adeleke has delivered, and we are confident he will win reelection. PDP remains strong, and with our support, even President Tinubu can win Osun,” Bisi concluded.
