The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has sealed off an Access Bank branch and a Total petrol station in Wuse, Abuja, over the non-payment of ground rent.
The action is part of a wider enforcement campaign targeting property owners who have defaulted on their statutory obligations.
The closures follow a major crackdown by the FCTA, which recently revoked 4,794 land titles across key districts in Abuja—including Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, and Garki—due to unpaid ground rent. Some of the arrears stretch back more than four decades.
According to FCTA officials, a total of 8,375 property owners collectively owe about ₦6.97 billion in ground rent.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike reaffirmed the administration’s stance, stating that the revocations were carried out in line with Section 28(5) of the Land Use Act, which empowers the government to repossess land from titleholders who fail to fulfill the conditions of their occupancy rights.
