Cross River Speaker Hails Workers As Pillars Of Progress, Vows Continued Legislative Support

Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, has praised workers across all sectors for their unwavering dedication and critical role in the development and stability of both the state and the nation.

In a statement released Thursday by his chief press secretary, Matthew Okache, Ayambem celebrated the resilience of civil servants, health workers, teachers, traders, farmers, security personnel, and artisans, describing them as “the backbone of societal development.”

Marking Workers’ Day on May 1, the speaker urged continued support for Governor Bassey Otu’s “People First” agenda, which he said prioritizes the welfare and empowerment of the workforce.

“Your sacrifices, commitment, and hard work are the foundation of our progress as a people,” Ayambem said, emphasizing the essential role of labor in sustaining the economy and public welfare.

He reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to enacting laws that protect workers’ rights, promote fair employment, and uphold the dignity of labor. “We will continue to support initiatives that align with our people’s aspirations,” he assured.

Asserting that the government is determined to ensure that labor is “respected, rewarded, and protected,” the speaker extended his heartfelt appreciation to all workers in Cross River State and beyond, saying, “May your efforts never go in vain. Happy Workers’ Day!”
