Michael Nees, the Zimbabwe coach, has urged the Warriors to accept the challenge of facing Nigeria in Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Uyo.
Nees said the Super Eagles have gained momentum under coach Eric Chelle after their impressive away 2-0 win in Rwanda last week.
“They want to turn this campaign around, so we have to perform to our maximum. We can expect real tough opponents giving everything, so they [Warriors] must accept the challenge, the climate, the pace and enjoy it,” he said.
The German admitted that the Super Eagles have an upper hand in the Group C contest at Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
“Nigeria is halfway through the campaign. From an individual point of view, Nigeria are a top team with top-class players. They won in Rwanda and will come with confidence and their power,” he said.
The German said the Warriors have settled in Uyo despite late arrival after their flight was canceled, adding ‘but it was not a train smash.’
Nees echoed defender Emmanuel Jalai’s remarks that the Warriors have to adapt to the humid weather conditions of Uyo.
“We are adapting to the climate,” he added.
The Warriors face a must-win situation after dropping points in a two-all draw against Benin last week to remain at the tail end of the pool. Only group winners will secure a straight World Cup qualification.
