Withdraw Charges Against Nnamdi Kanu Same Way You Did With Sambo Dasuki, Set Him Free, Aguocha Urges Buhari

Chief Obi Aguocha, the House of Representatives Member-Elect, to represent Ikwuano/ Umuahia North/ Umuahia South Federal Constituency in Abia state, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to withdraw the appeal against the judgement of the Court of Appeal and release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) from further detention.

He urged the President to use the same way he withdrew the charges against Col Sambo Dasuki, the former National Security Adviser to withdraw charges against Nnamdi Kanu in the interest of justice and equity.

In a statement on Thursday, the incoming House of Representatives member who will represent Nnamdi Kanu said the IPOB leader ought to be released unconditionally as there are no pending charges in court against him.

Hon. Aguocha said that the release of Kanu would douse tension and insecurity and further enhance the much-needed economic growth stifled by the Monday sit-at-home in the South East region.

He expressed confidence in the ability of political leaders, Traditional Rulers, religious leaders in the southeast, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo in guiding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu while building trust and diminishing any elements of mutual suspicion when released.

The release added, “Hon. Aguocha encouraged President Buhari not to miss this golden opportunity despite any wrongly held perceptions and to take this good action for which posterity would remember him in a positive light as he winds down his eight year tenure as the President of Nigeria.

“You may recall that Hon. Aguocha has for many years been consistent in his pursuit for a peaceful resolution of the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu impasse. Two years ago, Hon. Aguocha had addressed the Nigerian Senate in an Executive Session through the Senate President, His Excellency, Ahmed Lawan, and other Senators of the 9th assembly. Highlighting issues of insecurity, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, political injustice, economic growth, and development of the South East and Nigeria as a whole.

“In conclusion, the Honourable Member-Elect admonished President Buhari to be courageous in doing what is right and just, now, for the unity and progress of our dear country.”
