Why Lights Went Off At Lekki Tollgate On The Night Of Shooting – LCC MD

The Lekki Concession Company (LCC), the operators of the Lekki tollgate, has given reason lights went off on Tuesday, October 20, the day soldiers allegedly opened fire on #EndSARS protesters.

LCC MD, Abayomi Omomuwa, while appearing at the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the Lagos State Government to probe the Lekki shootings, said lights went off because its staff left the toll gate at 4:30 pm and were not available at 7:30 pm when the lights come on regularly.

Omomuwa, who submitted footage from the day, also confirmed that the staff in charge of the generators also left because they didn’t want to provoke #EndSARS protesters

“None of the LCC staff physically witnessed the #LekkiMassacre.

“We can only rely on the footage. This is because ‘they didn’t want to provoke #EndSARS protesters’.

“We usually put the lights on at about 7:30. Our people left the location at 4 pm. Everyone was asked to go.

“When the curfew was declared, we obtained permission, and asked all staff to go, including those in charge of the generator.

“The UPS did come on after IPP went off,” LCC MD said.

It added that the company never received any instructions to switch off power or remove cameras.
