Why I Supported Akpabio To Become Senate President – Wike

Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike stated why he supported Godswill Akpabio’s election as the 10th Senate President of the National Assembly.

Wike described Akpabio as a long-time supporter, saying that he donated N200 million to the campaign’s advancement in 2014 and 2015.

On Sunday, he revealed this at a special thanksgiving ceremony organized by his family at the St. Peters Deanery in Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor area of the state.

While he was highly criticized, the former Rivers governor said Akpabio supported his ambition to become governor in 2015.

“When I ran in 2014 and 2015 he came out and supported me. He gave me N200 million for that election.

“That is why I said one good turn deserves another. I supported him this time, and I thank God he won,” he said.

In response to Wike’s claim, Akpabio stated that the N200 million he provided Wike in 2015 did not come from the state of Akwa Ibom, where he was governor at the time.

The Senate President stated that the funds came from his savings in the telecommunications industry, where he was a managing director before becoming governor.
