Retired Italy defender Marco Materazzi has spoken out about the headbutt he got in the 2006 World Cup final from former France player Zinedine Zidane.
France’s captain Zinedine Zidane was shown a red card following the incident during extra time, which Italy won on penalties.
It was Zidane’s final game as a player before retiring after the 2006 World Cup.
Materazzi, on the other hand, has now spoken out about the incident, revealing exactly what he said to Zidane.
“Trash talking, my trash talking was nothing,” Materazi remarked on the IFTV Podcast when asked what he said to Zidane that caused the Real Madrid icon to headbutt him. He [Zidane] offered me his jersey, but I declined since I prefer his sister.
