A non-governmental organisation, Prof Gregory Ibe Foundation says it has uncovered a plan by some individuals to engage in character assassination against the Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu and chairman of Proprietors of Private Universities in Nigeria, Prof Gregory Ibe, by sponsoring orchestrated smear media campaigns at the person of the don.
This allegation is contained in a press statement signed by Prince Emeka Okafor, Chairman of the group.
He alleged that the aim of the media attack is to attempt to diminish the rising political profile of Prof Ibe through the publication of frivolous and unsubstantiated stories.

Prince Okafor further stated that investigations by his organisation revealed that some print and electronic media organisations have already been contacted by those he described as unscrupulous individuals in an attempt to accord authenticity to their smear campaign.
He added that the sponsors of this agenda have concluded plans to publish series of concocted lies against the person of Prof Gregory Ibe whom he said only crime is his decision to voluntarily offer service to the people with his personal resources.
The group while alerting the public of the plot, he advised those behind this plan to repent and desist from carrying out their ignoble act.
It urged media organisations to be professional in their reportage, by thoroughly investigating every story about Prof Ibe before publication to avoid libel and defamation of character.
