Governor Alex Otti
Governor Alex Otti has reiterated that the proposed Abia Airport is primarily a federal government project, with the state government providing the necessary support to ensure its successful execution, ABN TV reports.
He clarified this during the December edition of the monthly media briefing tagged “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians.”
Addressing questions on the state’s involvement, Governor Otti explained that the project is not a joint venture where parties co-own the initiative and share responsibilities equally. Instead, the Abia State Government’s role is limited to facilitating and advising where needed to enhance the project.

“The airport is largely a federal project,” Otti said. “What we did was to intervene to say, ‘Instead of doing this, why don’t you do this?’ And if you need us to contribute, we are happy to do so. But it does not mean that we own the project. No.”
The governor further disclosed that the primary difference between the federal government’s initial plan and the state’s input lies in the length of the runway, highlighting that Abia State’s suggestions aim to optimize the project for better outcomes.
Governor Otti assured Abians that the airport project is on course and will be completed as planned. “Rest assured that the project is going to take off and is going to be delivered,” he affirmed.
This statement underscores the governor’s commitment to collaboration with the federal government to bring impactful developmental projects to the state while maintaining transparency on Abia’s level of involvement.
