We’ll Stop FG From Releasing More Intervention Funds To ABSU If… Abia Lawmaker Threatens

A member of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu has threatened that the opposition in the state will stop all Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) assistance due to Abia State University, Uturu.

Chukwu who represents Bende North state constituency in the Assembly said if the management of the state-owned university fails to account for previous intervention funds, he as an opposition member will write a formal petition to TETFUND national office to investigate the funds so far released to the university.

Speaking with ABN TV on Monday, the Abia Assembly Deputy Minority leader called on the media, professionals, civil society organizations, and concerned Abians to demand accountability from the university over funds it has received from the federal government in the past four years.

Chukwu alleged that ABSU received the sum of N800 million in 2016.

He added that the same amount was released to the school in 2017 and 2018 respectively and in 2019, the sum of N3 billion was released for the completion of projects in the school which he said was not utilized.

He expressed dissatisfaction that the institution has not demonstrated readiness to show accountability in the management of public funds, warning that this contravenes the spirit of transparency.
