We’ll Not Tolerate Any Post-election Incitement That’ll Threaten Security, Says IGP

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has stated that the force will not accept any post-election incitement that could jeopardize national security.

On March 22, Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s (LP) vice-presidential candidate, claimed that All Progressives Congress (APC) nominee Bola Tinubu did not match the constitutional conditions to become Nigeria’s president.

Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the APC campaign council, was among those who reacted to Baba-remark. Ahmed’s
As a result, a group known as The Natives marched to the streets of Abuja to protest the calls for Tinubu’s inauguration to be canceled, claiming that no mandate was stolen.

The force spokeswoman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Monday that the IGP spoke during a meeting with strategic police managers.

According to the IGP, the purpose of the meeting is to evaluate police performance during the general election, highlight lessons learned and strengths, and dissect complex dynamics for future optimal performance.

The call to cancel the presidential election, according to Keyamo, is unlawful.

“The Inspector-General of Police, therefore, charged the Strategic Police Managers to readjust strategies and operations towards ensuring a stable post-election security order and refocus policing attention on routine law enforcement duties,” the statement reads.

“He similarly, and firmly, admonished all political actors and their supporters to submit to democratic norms, peaceful means, and legal procedures in advancing their interests as the Police and other security agencies shall not tolerate the resort to incitement or any act designed to threaten our national security.”

Alkali Baba also assured Nigerians of effective collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to transparently prosecute the 781 electoral offenders apprehended for violation of electoral laws during the election.
