We Won’t Vote Obi Because He’ll Import Alcohol To The North  - APC Chieftain

Alwan Hassan, a northern chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced that the North will not support Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, citing Obi’s involvement in alcohol importation as the reason.

Hassan made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Tuesday.

“Who else do you think will defeat Asiwaju in 2027? Who? Peter Obi was on your programme saying he wants the North to support him, and in the same programme he was celebrating a brewery in Anambra State and being the biggest importer of alcohol,” Hassan said.

“And you want the North to vote for him? We will vote for a president that will import alcohol in the North?”

He questioned the wisdom of backing a candidate whose business interests, in his view, contradict the predominantly Muslim culture and values of the North.

Obi, who has declared his intention to run for president in 2027 with a promise to serve only one term, has consistently faced criticism from APC leaders since making his announcement.

Hassan went on to dismiss the opposition coalition formed under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a fragile alliance motivated more by personal ambitions than a shared goal.

“The ADC is a coalition of angry people with a strategy,” he said. “Everyone of them wants to be president. Asiwaju will be president.”

The opposition group, which includes prominent figures like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and others, has positioned itself since its formation as a credible alternative to the ruling APC in 2027.

Nevertheless, Hassan remains confident their efforts will be unsuccessful. He asserted that President Tinubu’s administration will strengthen its hold on power and win the next general elections.

“With the facts on the ground, President Tinubu will be re-elected in sha Allah,” he said.
