The newly deployed Commander 14 Brigade Nigerian Army Ohafia, Brigadier General Adegoke Adetuyi has vowed that the Brigade under his watch will do all it can to eliminate criminal elements in the community and its environs.
He made this vow on Friday when delegates of traditional rulers and elders in Ohafia, led by the local government Chairman Dr Okoroafor Ukiwe visited the Brigade Headquarters in Ohafia.
He reiterated that he is not there to ‘romance’ any criminal, but to constitutionally do everything possible in ensuring peace is maintained without compromise in Ohafia and the whole of Abia State.
General Adetuyi expressed displeasure on the incident that happened in the community on Wednesday 17 August 2022 which led to the killing of a young soldier and a lady by members of IPOB/ESN, adding that none of the criminals will be spared in the communities.
He enjoined the traditional rulers and monarchs to talk to their subjects to eschew violence, embrace peace and stop harbouring criminals in their respective domains.
This, he said, is necessary so that innocent and law abiding citizens would not be subjected to unnecessary inconveniences or get hurt, in reference to the killing of the young lady by suspected IPOB members.
He further disclosed that there was need for the delegates to endorse an undertaking, assuring of their undiluted support for peace and security in Ohafia Local Government Area, which they all consented and signed the document.
The Commander further enjoined all stakeholders to report any act that is inimical to the peace and security of the communities, stressing that with synergy success could be achieved.
Earlier, the local government Chairman Dr Okoroafor Ukiwe commiserated with the Commander over the death of his soldier, adding that the Council is aware of the efforts of the military in securing Ohafia and its environs.
He further assured the Commander that modalities on the way forward for the unfortunate incident not to repeat itself is of priority to the local Council.
