We Have Taken Steps To End Farmers-Herdsmen Clashes – Jigawa Govt

Jigawa State Government says it has taken steps to avert the incessant conflict between farmers and herdsmen.

Governor Mallam Umar Namadi stated this on Wednesday while highlighting some of his achievements after 100 days in office.

He said the government had set up the Farmers-Herdsmen Security and Peace Committee to work on the peaceful resolution of the perennial conflicts between herdsmen and farmers, especially in Guri and KiriKasamma local governments.

He explained that the committee consists of the leadership of Miyatti Allah, the farmers’ association, security agencies, and traditional and religious leaders.

Governor Namadi said the Committee was established by the Jigawa State Government to ensure the sustenance of security and peace in Guri Local Government.

He said the State government was working to improve all the grazing reserves and demarcate cattle routes across the State.

“We are already working to improve the grazing reserves,” he said.

He said the State government had already taken measures to end the problem by confiscating all illegal farmlands allocated to individuals by some authorities.

“Some authorities have taken advantage during our transition to illegally allocate farmland thereby causing problems between the farmers and ranchers,” he stated.

The clashes between the two parties are an annual incident, especially along the Guri and Kirikasamma local government areas, resulting in the death of many people and the destruction of farm produce.
